As it is this re-review warns me to reconsider pairing the B580 with a low end part, but doesn't tell me what is a good CPU pairing. The B580 is definitely still a very cost-effective GPU in the right system, I wish the review helped figure out what the cheapest system that makes sense is.

Hey Steve, I hope you see this important note about the “Quality” term regarding upscaling. DLSS and FSR “Quality” upscale by 1.5x, however, in order to achieve that same 1.5x scaling with XeSS 1.3 or later, you must set it to “Ultra Quality” (XeSS 1.3 or newer “Quality” actually scales at 1.7x) So if we were to do a true test of all upscalers at the same scaling option (let’s use 1.5x in this case), it would have to be DLSS Quality vs. FSR Quality vs. XeSS Ultra Quality. I’m not sure how this affects testing results, but wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks for your work!

I'm noticing that on a large number of the benchmarks, when the RX7600 and RTX 4060 are tied on either CPU, the B580 tends to be slightly more performative than them, but when there's a difference between CPUs on the AMD/NVIDIA cards, the B580 takes a bigger hit overall. Seems like on some games, the graphics scheduling might not be great - especially on Last of Us Part 1, which I'd chalk up to "unoptimized console port" - while on others, the B580 is a clear winner even for an AM4 chip, e.g. Plague Tale: Requiem, where it beats both the RX7600 and RTX4060 by at least a 10 FPS margin even when suffering a CPU hit from the 5600. Overall, seems like if a game is going to have a performance difference between two CPUs, the B580 will multiply the issue. Hopefully it's something that can be fixed with game-specific configurations from Intel. Even before Intel hit the market, there were plenty of examples of games coming out that ran great on NVIDIA but awful on AMD before a patch or driver update, and vice versa.

I have a question about PCIE version that might be relevant to the B580 situation, and driver overhead. If an older system has PCIE 3.0, does that affect resizable bar Vs newer PCIE 4.0 and 5.0 systems? Obviously the B580 issue is affected strongly (with AMD at least) by CPU generation, but CPU generation is also hand in hand with PCIE support. So, taking an "old" and new system like the Ryzen 5 5600 and 9800X3D and downgrading PCIE versions, would that affect FPS and 1% lows? My gut instinct is that it won't have any effect, but to assume makes an ass of u and me. Could be interesting, could be a non issue, but most of us don't have the equipment to check.

@fdgdfgdfgdfg3811 I know that, but for 1:1 performance you'd need to test the systems you already have to eliminate other factors. One of the older Ryzen chips like the 3600 and 2600x perform generationally worse than the 5600, and many people upgraded their CPUs but not their motherboards, which were left with PCIE 3.0 instead of the 4.0 that they're capable of. Not all 50 games, obviously, but pick out some of the games he did a deeper dive here on, like Cyberpunk, Warhammer 40k, Spider-Man Remastered, The Last of Us 1 and War Thunder. Those 5 games, or really any 5 games from the second half of this video would do. But choosing different API's and different Direct X versions would certainly help. Even better if we could get a couple more intel CPU's. We've covered every single Ryzen generation (Ok We skipped Zen 1 but have Zen + as per Steve's first review of the issue). If we could do a low and mid 10th gen (say a 10400f and a 10900k), a low and mid 12th gen (eg 12100 and 12400 or 12400 and 12600) and a high end 13th or 14th gen (eg 13700k or 14900k). I wonder if Intel didn't see this in their own testing because they did the great majority of their testing on Intel CPU's. This is the downside of pretty much all the testers moving to 9800X3D test platforms. Right now the 50 game mega test probably makes a bit less sense than finding out at which CPU generation (or CPU power) the B580 just falls apart. You could honestly pick one game and sub in the 7800X3D, 7700X, 7600 and watch the performance tanking with each step to a lower grade CPU. the reality is the B580 is a good product IN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. Great investigation and interesting results. I think it goes to show that choosing a GPU is a lot more complicated than what can be gleamed from testing it with a high end CPU at a native resolution and max or near-max quality. It's worth taking into account when reviewing future CPUs. Some amount of testing with lower settings and upscaling might be worth doing always. We always assume that testing at 1080p is good enough, but if testing at 1440p with upscaling produces different scaling, then that's definitely worth knowing.

The way intel handles the older apis is similar to proton on Linux. Essentially dxvk. It is a translation layer that translates api calls into Vulcan. Not emulation. Depending on the game some will either run slower to faster than the native api. The games that have poor cpu threading such as all dx9 games will benefit from forcing dxvk on. It does some translation magic making use of multithreading. On dx11 games it’s up in the air. Only dx11 games that I noticed a benefit on my setup are state of decay 2, subnautica, watch dogs 1 and early access titles. I probably have too much overhead. Nvidia GPUs don’t really need to utilize dxvk unless the game is that badly optimized. Amd GPUs benefits the most and has the least overhead from using dxvk thanks to existence of the steam deck.

The numbers just show that if you are building a budget rig the b580 is an option. I don't know to many people that are going to drop $490 on the CPU alone but straddle it with a $250 video card (don't get me wrong they are out there). I thought the same exact thing. Intel market stock is low, it makes inferior CPUs, their A series GPUs were a flop. So Intel seeing this inferiority of their product vs Nvidia and AMD tried to gain ground by three ways: Have it be much less efficient than the 4060 and 4060ti. More power, less efficient. More performance because of the added power used. Intel did this with their inferior CPUs vs the 65 watt AMD CPUs of the 5000 series. 7nm AMDs vs 10nm Intel, how do you mask that failure, you increase power consumption. Less efficient, get marginal or large gains vs your competitors, though on an inferior product. When you buy AMD or Nvidia, you are buying the Ferrari or Lamborghini class of technology - sleek, stylist, works of art. They are beautiful to behold. When you buy Intel you are buying a pick-up truck. Intel buyers: "With my pick-up truck, I am gonna run over your Ferrari, gerrrr". AMD and Nvidia owners: "lol". More VRAM. Where the GPU is failing vs competitors, add more VRAM to mask this Intel problem. If Intel could make a good 8GB GPU, then make it better with 12 or 16GB of VRAM, then Intel has a product. The added VRAM is there because their 8 gb version would suck so bad. AMD and Nvidia can still make 8G GPUs because they make good quality products. The added VRAM is the only smart decision Intel makes, and it is used to hide bad performance. Run on the coat tails of better and much more expensive CPUs. Not good with efficient and older CPUs? Know the reviewers test with newer and most expensive CPUs, go this route and fool the public that this is a budget GPU. Have the GPU use the added performance of expensive CPUs to help beat AMD and Nvidia in several games. Also ignore the B580 is unstable. It is not consistent as AMDs and Nvidia GPU. AMD and Nvidia are stable from game to game. Not so with Intel B580, it does fine with a few games, then gets crushed in some. Then knowing Nvidia went the efficiency path with the 4060 and 4060ti, have it released so it would be compared with apple and oranges 4060, not the much more power hungry 5060 which is going to blow the B580 away. Millions of pre-built system were sold with 1650 and 1650 super and 1660 and 1660 supers. These systems had 400-450 watt power supplies. Many of those that buy pre-builts from dell, hp and elsewhere don't want to upgrade the Power supply or MOBO. RAM upgrades are easy. Storage upgrades are easy. GPU upgrades are easy. Power supply is more difficult and add expense to the GPU total upgrade. 4060s and 4060ti are made for upgrading the 1650s and 1660s series. This is what the tech reviewers missed on the 4060. 4060 was a G-d send to those with low power supply pre-builts. The B580 is certainly not for pre-builts with limited power. Fine job Steve. Though I would have wanted the reviews on Ultra/High in 1080 and 1440. Medium Settings should be shown when one of the GPUs drops below 60fps. To show if it is playable on Medium Settings. Other than that, I was happy with the review. Steve ignore the criticism that the review only did AMD older CPUs. Older Intel CPUs were done by several other reviewers. Specifically 9th generation Intel and 12 generation Intel CPUs and the results were nearly identical to your findings Steve. Big drops. Nvidia and AMD make reliable GPUs, consistent is every game. Intel built their GPU, deliberately or not, to fool the tech reviewers and it is good to see you Steve got out of that trap. The best budget GPU for pre-builts the past 2 years has been the 4060ti. The performance for 1660 super watts used is phenomenal. It was $370 on Amazon for months for the 8gb VRAM. If you could afford the 16 GB, then you made your system last so much longer since games are requiring more and more VRAM. Though waiting for the newer series in 2025 should be better depending on price. Those new GPUs should be much better than the B580. That is why Nvidia and AMD charge more, because of quality.

In TLoU B580(5600) same fps in 1080p and 1440p - is that correct? Same in Spider-man.

Yes, overhead issue.
@samgragas846715 күн бұрын
That is what happens when the CPU is the only bottleneck. Overhead made the CPU slower and it reached its limit.

@@Hardwareunboxed Good for 4K upscaling then! My monitor only does 60 FPS anyway. ^^

Not to mention that they are selling for over their msrp lol, what an epic fail

Every AIB sell above msrp… Plame Asus, MSI, and so on for that!
@riba223315 күн бұрын
@@haukikannel neither asus nor msi are selling Intel gpus. You can only blame Intel, they set the price policy and made just a small amount of MSRP units because they know they are losing money on them.
@RyTrapp015 күн бұрын
@@haukikannel No - every AIB *has some models* that sell above MSRP. They also typically have a base model for each GPU that they sell at or near MSRP. And, when they don't, like some of the MSRP shenanigans that Nvidia has played, they get called out for it as they should.

@@RyTrapp0The intel models are above MSRP too lmao I has nothing to do with the AIBs it's just that the supply is so meagre

@ Yeah! Nvidia normally say that you have to have x units with msrp and rest you can do what ever… The problem normally is… China and scalpers gets those msrp versions and we rest has to buy those owerpriced AIB models… It was like that woth 30 series and 40series. So that is what I expect this time also.

as one of the first 200 A750 owners... still on a Skylake i5 - I am really excited about the potential performance upgrades once I can buy ARL in Germany!
