I bought a 2001 Tahoe three years ago for $2,200. It had 260,000 miles on it but it ran and sounded so good. I looked at about 10 other trucks that did not go well so I was skeptical but it was from the original owner with a stack of maintenance records: new water pump, new fuel pump, brake job, new alternator. It's at 283,000 now and I have not had a single problem with it. I'm in Portland so no snow or ice so that helps and I'm pretty sure it was garage-kept because this guy was rich. That's another thing: buy used cars from old people/rich people and try to find out the truck's origin, where it spent most of its life, and for what purpose. And look at a lot of trucks for comparison.

When I bought my 2002 Tahoe, I was so focused on the mechanicals I totally missed that the headliner was not well attached. Put 1000 miles on it, so far good. We are in the rust belt, so I'm glad the brake lines were all replaced with stainless.

I just bought a 04 Tahoe, Love the monster so far, but what I have ran into since having it for 2+ months, is the intake manifold gasket, it has to be replaced. It's at 250k miles, and loves to jerk depending on how long it's been running, I plan to replace this myself as I'm a self taught/learning mechanic, but from what I've seen online, this is a pricey repair if you cannot do it yourself. The tips about bushing and stuff is appreciated, as I literally just took a peek today only to have 1 nightmare enter another. I'm not stressing, I'm starting a new job soon, love the experience of repairing my vehicle, and plan to dump the necessary money into the repairs needed because I can feel it's a good truck. Had you not said anything about commenting, I wouldn't be wasting my time, that being said, you got 1 more time to teach me something about my new monster and you have a new sub and guaranteed likes(not trying to bride you). One thing I would mention checking when buying these monsters is the 4x4 transfer case, my Lower does not engage, me being new to this type of vehicle, I plan to learn whats going on, but for now it is absolutely of no use to me, Auto 4x4 engages and works, High 4x4 works, but not low. Another pain in the ass I would advise checking is the rear window wiper, make sure that works, where I live it would make life a lot simpler if it worked, but oh well, side mirrors it is. I could go on and on about things I'm finding on the higher mileage versions of these monsters, but don't feel I need to. Above all else, Thank you for your information and wisdom, and sorry for the long LONG ass comment. Stay safe, Be Blessed!

To engage the 4x4 low you have to be in neutral and moving about 3 miles an hour. It won't shift into low otherwise especially not from a dead standstill.

Thank you for commenting and subbing but those are some great points. I completely forgot to mention the transfer case lol.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to put these videos out. Just want to recognize that it probably takes a little more than we all realize to put out good content. Thank you for taking the time & sharing your knowledge. Have a 2002 Tahoe that I purchased about 20 years ago now. It had about 12k miles on it when I purchased it. It has 180k on it now. Its not 4wd but a month after I bought it I cranked up the torsion bars on the front to level it out(actually a little higher than level) and have run 295/75 tires on it ever since. You are 100% on the money when you talk about the front end components wearing out. I have gradually been replacing all the front & rear end suspension components. Just want to mention that Monroe & atleast one other company TRQ make a sorta faux coil-over shock for the rear that are worth looking into for extra strength & support in the rear. There are a few other parts/items that I have discovered that are worth mentioning. maybe I will drop another comment on one of your other videos and list those. Know this is already a lengthy comment, i apologize. what I wanted to ask you is if you know of any odd, but maybe common to the Tahoe, sources of oil leaks. I have a leak that is pretty substantial and have had it for few years. Have not been able to find the source of the leak. It leaks a good bit on the starter and there is even some oil that accumulates on the top front in areas below the manifold. But the majority of the oil leaks all around the bell housing and ultimately drips from the bolt/drainplug on the back of the oil pan. On first inspection, it appears it maybe the oil sending unit located behind the manifold or the gasket on the oil cooler just above the oil filter and everyone wants to say that its the main seal bc of the quantity of oil leaking. the main seal was replaced about 15k miles ago when the trans was rebuilt. have replaced the oil sending unit twice and the gasket on the oil cooler. I suspect what some refer to as the valley gasket. But it really doesn't seem to be obvious on inspection. I plan on getting in there to replace knock sensors and that wiring harness eventually. since I am not certain that is the problem I really hate to go tearing into there until I have to. Have heard some mention of a "phantom oil leak" on the LS engine. Would like to know if you have any suggestions of where I might look to be the source of this leak. Someone once mentioned some sensor located some where near, maybe just above the starter that could be the issue. i am not a mechanic and can't seem to find or pinpoint anything like that on any diaphragms I have been able to find online. Any info would be much appreciated. thanks again for the great content and sharing your knowledge.

After having a couple will say the suburban is better that extra space is tremendously helpful.... Guys, don't realize the Tahoe is the same wheelbase as a shortbed regular cab pickup 117.5 and the suburban is 133.5. Long bed regular cab wheel base

Outlasted the 1500 pick up atleast in rust belt.... Mostly the suv and 3/4 ton 1 tons seem to last longest... The Denali is great, 4L65 is better but the awd is made for the street not serious off-road... Also it wears the front end and front diff out but i see alot of them especially.. The lq4/4L65 is great combo... 2006 suburban LTZ Believe it's the first year of LTZ and you can get the 6.0 without all-wheel drive.. LQ4 better then LQ9 imo it handles 87 octane better but they all like 93 man
