nothing is that reliable anymore, whether it's honda toyota whatever, it's because of the added complexity and gadgets that squeeze out MPGs. But probably also because of corporate greed.

As a long term retired truck driver, I know a couple of things that will help your turbo last longer. Remember that your turbo bearings are lubricated and cooled with engine oil pressure. When you first start a cold engine in the morning, let it idle for a minute to make sure the oil pressure is stabilized. The most important thing is when the engine is hot. If you've been driving on the interstate, and you exit for gas, let the engine idle for a minute or two before shutdown to let your turbo spool down.. Your car may be stopped, but your turbo might still be spinning at 10 to 20 thousand RPM's with no engine oil pressure to lube those bearings. City driving won't affect them as much, but high speed driving will.

My dad had a 2004 Chevy suburban. I loved that big, comfortable, spacious land-yacht and it was very reliable even at 246k miles but that gas mileage was HORRIBLE (12 miles per gallon). I drove it every day for 9 months after I got my license and even though it was paid off, the gas ALONE for that Suburban cost more every month than my 2019 Camry’s insurance, car payment and gas COMBINED. This was in 2017 long before gas prices went crazy. Yes, I drive a lot

We had an 04 Yukon xl with the 6.0 v8 AWD in the Midwest winters, it was at like 180k and it had some minor flaws, but it towed a lot and was still running okay. Had so much space, it ran through snow and ice like no other vehicle Ive ever driven. It was right when gas was $4-$5 back in like 2013-2015 and thought I would never see that again... $5.50-$6 now! Glad I. Only drive 2 days a week with my 2020 corolla!

A Friend of mine had a 1987 Suburban with a 6.2L diesel and a Starcraft interior. My favorite truck ever. My grandfather was a mechanic and always drove the old boxy Volvos because he never had to repair his own car. I learned how to drive in a 1972 Volvo 145S with a 4 speed manual.

Those older Tahoes and Suburbans are special. My buddy drives a 2005 Z71 Tahoe as an everyday driver and my other buddy just sold his 2004 Yukon xl which was his daily driver to a contractor. I plan to get a Tahoe / Suburban for recreational use.

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Extended cab 4x4 with a 5.3 v8 engine which had 31k miles when I bought it in 2009. It now has 97k miles and has absolutely no rust or dents anywhere. There are some stone chips on the hood. Everything works as it should. I am very proud when asked what year it is and told what good condition it is in! We do pull our camper with it and it is my daily driver, however, I am retired so I don’t drive many miles anymore. It is not a Southern truck! Myself and the original owner live in Ohio. We always garage our vehicles.

I still drive the 1988 Chevy S10 my Dad bought brand new. I was 3 when he bought it and I’m 38 now. I had it repainted bright red again and had the iron duke 4 cylinder rebuilt. The 5 speed trans hasn’t been messed with. But it looks brand new again and drives like new. Dad passed away last year and left it to me so I sold my newer truck and started driving the little 88 full time 👍🏻. With gas prices so high I’m glad to be driving dads little truck! I’m also glad I didn’t do a v8 swap in it now !

I've had several Chevy and GMC trucks, starting in the 70's through now. Very strong and reliable, easy to repair if they break, and they hold up well for many years. I can't think of a better combination of features for vehicles of this type. Nothing fancy, but well designed and proven. Same comments for Chevy vans as well.

We have a 2000 z71 Tahoe, the last square body Tahoe. It has about 450k miles on it and that ol 5.7 is still running like a champ! It’s a pretty quiet truck too. very comfortable ride as well.

Took my drivers test in 99 with my parents gmc suburban, had over 300k on the odometer before the intake cooling lines blew out. 2 wheel drive but ran like a tank.

all of the 5.7 vortec lower intake manifold gaskets give up eventually, best to replace with TRW problem solvers as a matter of maintenance around 100k.

My 93 c1500 pickup is as good as they get. It has a 4.3 v6. If it dies today it's still a legend. 337,000 miles, no major repairs. It defines dependable to me!!! I would buy another new one if they still made one like this one!

I have a’93 Chevy Silverado 1500 x-cab 2wd with 5.7L V-8 it get 17.5 mpg on the highway running the AC. My wife has ‘02 GMC XL 5.3L V-8. Neither one get driven much, but not selling, prefer the older vehicles over the new ones. Scotty 👍👍👏👏. P.S. not getting a newer one

I'm on my third Suburban, 1980, 1986, and now a 2001. They were all great trucks, my son wrecked the first one, had the second one for 14 years, and the third one is going on 12 years and 250k miles. Only major issue was trans (4l60e) @196k, otherwise no issues. Bought them all used and have had great service out of all of them.

Yes, I am literally just finishing a ground up restoration on a 1988 K1500. After scrubbing the frame down use POR-15 to keep the rust away.

I'm just now with this thing being nearly 23 years old having to r&r my front diff. Other than that this thing is a beast and my most dependable vehicle. Scotty you are speaking the truth here.

My truck has almost 200k. I do all the maintenance and did a transmission rebuild during it's life. I've owned it since 2005. I still have it today. I purchased it to basically run in the snow when it does here in the northeast. I put a 3 inch body lift on and did the 50 series flowmaster muffler. I couldn't be more happy with it. Feels like a mini monster truck it can drive threw any snow well have or floods for that matter which we don't get here in Philadelphia, Pa. Great trucks Scotty

I have a '98 Silverado Z71 and its completely stock down to even the muffler. It only has 140,000 miles and it is running 100% and has zero sign of causing problems for the next decade! I love my truck and plan to keep it forever it is beautiful, I restored it to mint, its very reliable, comfortable, and not to mention very iconic and nostalgic. Most kids in the 90s had a father who owned one of these GMT400 trucks. They will keep going if you do basic maintenance and people like to dog on the 4L60E but truth is most of the issues come from user error. It specifically says not to tow or offroad in overdrive yet everyone does! And this truck does towing and offroading like no other. Its very capable.

1996-1999 Subrurbans and Tahoes are the same. The 5.7 Vortec (heart shaped cylinder head chambers and factory roller cam/lifters)is the best engine ever made period. They share parts with 1996-1998 pick-ups. You can get any part for these, a lot of aftermarket support. You must check/change the differential oil or they will go out at 150-175,000 miles. I replaced the leather front seats and arm rests on mine from The Seat Company. Parts are really cheap on these compared to other vehicles. I just rebuilt my 4L60E transmission for $500. I rebuilt my engine for $1,000, you can get a crate engine for $2,500. Very safe vehicles too!

I have a 98 suburban k1500 with 210k miles, travel from vegas to LA all the time and it's great. The ac ohhh man its 110 in Vegas and inside its a fridge 👌, this baby never let's me down. Just the gas prices are killing me, about 180 bucks to fill up that 32 gallon tank 😵

Before people say something. I know this video is a year old. But I just saw it. Scotty. Thanks so much for the awesome videos. I just found your channel after I bought a new to me vehicle. I have to admit this video brought some tears to my eyes. I just get rid if a 1999 GMC Yukon. Had 240,000 miles on it. Original motor and trans. Ran great. My plan was to run it until it totally died. And depending what did, I might have replaced it and kept running it. And I don't work since I bceame disabled so I was not putting tons of miles on it. But it was also the vehicle that we would take on vacation. And my wife was uncomfortable relying on such an old vehicle. After getting some money from my wifes mom passing she gave me some money to do with it what I want. WOOHOO!!!. Well I very quickly learned it was not for anything I want. It was for a new vehicle. I got a 2011 GMC Yukon with the 5.3 litre and 6 speed trany. 2 wheel drive. Afert I found out about the assinine AFM shstem I got a unit that shuts it down. I did not get a Chinese one. I got a USA designed and made unit that has great reviews and it is working fine. Seeing this video really made me miss my old Yukon. If it was still on the lot I would be tempted to go buy it and use it for most of my driving. But some lucky person bought it. I should have kept it. Don't get me wrong I really like the new 2011. It is more powerful. more comfortable. But I keep waiting for something to go wrong. But being the good husband I am. Once something does I will say to my wife. I told you we should have kept the 1999. I will be finatical about doing maintenence on this one. And maybe I will get lucky. But I am not holding my breath. The previous owners seemed to have taken good care of it. Inside is like new. Garage kept. Well thanks for the great videos. I have learned so much. Even if it was what I shouldn't have done. LOL

Great video! I have a 2000 Tahoe, less than 100 thousand miles yet, I don't drive that much and have only done basic maintenance all these years. Still looks like it was just off the showroom floor. I have always taken good care and I love it. Very solid and runs like new yet. If I can get another 10 or 15 years out of it I probably won't be driving anymore, ha.

I've got two of these Vortec trucks and I just love em. 4.3 V6 1500 and a 5.7 2500 for heavier duties. Blew up the 5.7 but gonna do an engine swap. Solidly built, still simple enough to do most repairs on myself.

I have a 2000 C3500HD Dually. The HDs back then had the '90s body style up until 2002. My 2000 has the 7.4 Vortec (454) which was the last year for that engine. It has 46,000 original miles on it! It has a 4L80e auto trans with factory trans cooler, and a Dana 80 rear end. It also has factory 4-wheel disc brakes. They were sold as Cab & Chassis trucks back then.

I needed a car about 5 years back and I needed it for one purpose. Get me back and forth to work no matter the conditions for about a year. I ended up buying a 01 Yukon with 212k miles on it for $1000. Seats were ripped windows didn’t always want to work body was beat to hell and the undercarriage was about as rusted as you could get but had no holes or weak spots yet, but she started right up shifted smooth as hell and all wheel drive system still worked like it was supposed to. It never would passs inspection in VT but it got me to work long enough to save up on a down payment on a new car and still drove when I got rid of her. This county used to make good cars.

My Mexican-built 2001 Suburban lasted 330,000 miles without much issue. The transmission went out at that point, of which I decided not to repair due to major rust. I kept the cloth seats though because they were in pristine condition. Then bought a poorly-maintained 03 with 205k which turned into a mistake.

I actually just got a 99 chevy tahoe with 100k on it. I live in CT so it's got some frame scaling but nothing alarming. The body is in excellent condition. Motor and transmission fun fantastic. These are great vehicles.

I have an 04. 293K mi. Paid $2k. The motor is still super quiet and gets around quite well. When I don’t have my work trailer on the back it gets about 15 miles per gallon around town and out on the highway it gets up closer to 20. But as a work truck for me, it gets me around town with my mowers and tools. I use my Toyota for my get around car because it gets twice the gas mileage.😁

Bought a 2003 Chevy Venture LS van a year before the Planned-demic 2,000 bucks.....put 2 thou in her over the past 3 years new Cooper tires new windshield...battery and alternator she also had some front end slop tie rods..she has over 200,000 miles on her and she runs fine and gets 25 mpg and better if all highway and I have her loaded down...she is my bugout rig futon in back layed out flat and canned food and such under that...makes a great Calif beach shack...

I have a Suburban 1998 since it was new. It runs like train. 150k mikes. Just regular maintenance. But I do take care of my vehicles. And garaged when I am not using it. Almost no wear and tear on it. Beautiful blue metallic. I will never sell it.

42 gallons at avg. 5 bucks a gallon = $210 per going from empty to full. Then take in the 10miles per gallon real world est. and OMG! that beast is one costly monster. Still a decent SUV, if you have a big family and money for gas.

I second his comments about the Ford Flex. First time I showed a picture of one at the auction to my wife, she said it is too ugly to buy. Turns out mostly she didn't like the maroon colour it was. We now have 2 of them (not maroon) and love them! Very comfortable cars, do not ride like a truck, lots of space, and reliable. We love them, don't really know what we will replace them with when the time comes.

Wow. This video made me miss my 96 Burb 😪❤ Bought for $1400 with 240k miles and kept for 2 or 3 years. Distributor gave me fits for weeks; mechanics didn't know wth they were doing. Took to a new mechanic was doing and fixed it in less than 4 minutes. It was set to the wrong notch. Never had any other problems with it. If I knew then, what I know now, I wouldn't have traded her in, would have kept her.

I had a 2004 'Burban and loved it but it went through shocks and struts and wheel bearings, the engine lasted nearly 300K but suspension work was a regular thing.

Pitman arm, more then likely you went through tires fast too. Idle arm and pitman arm replacement is essential for those cars
