Hello Archer, I'm currently a year ten student and I'm definitely not as smart as you. Around 8 months ago, I was addicted to video games and wasted an abundant amount of time on redundant activities. I made a tough decision and decided to study around 5 hours after school and approximately 8 hours on the weekend. Despite having improved quite significantly in contrast with my old self, I believe I can improve the quality of my work even more. This video is going to really help me and put me back in the right place. Thank you so much Sir and keep up the amazing work!

I'm heading into year 12 and although I'm not as smart as you, I believe we share a passion for ascertaining the best way to study. Based on my readings of a bunch of studies, A Mind for Numbers, Make it Stick, Learning How to Learn, Become a Straight A student etc. you definitely are promoting the best and most scientifically backed methods of studying. Keep up the good work, the awesome editing and the fantastic explanations and before long you will surpass Ali Abdaal in subscribers and in value. P.S. What's your opinion on interleaving as a study technique? Did you find it wasn't worth switching it up so often or do you find ways to use it in your everyday study?

Thank you so much for the kind comment!!! I really appreciate it :) Interleaving is good as long as you don’t do it too much and too often and also if you don’t jump to much. Obviously, interleaving between English and Maths will not lead to much benefit. Whereas, interleaving between subtopics within a subject like Biology could definitely be more beneficial. I didn’t specifically incorporate it in my revision, except for exam revision with anki cards and practice problems across all topics. Hope this helps out! Thanks, Archer

Hey, what is the computer programme you used in this video? I downloaded Notions (the paid version) but it only has a drop-down format on my laptop header. How did you get the fullscreen version? Thanks, Indi!

Hi Indi! I'm not really sure what you're referring to exactly but the program in the video is still Notion haha. I just opened it in fullscreen instead.

Hey Archer :) Would you outline your Notion notes in VCE based on the study design, or based on your textbooks outline?
@ArcherNewton
@ArcherNewton 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Corey! So I based them off the curriculum but made my own headings :)

@@ArcherNewton Sweet got it :). Also, I was thinking of buying some past student notes, then creating the active recall question tree based on those. I feel this would give me more time to focus on understanding and memorizing than just making notes. I noticed you made all your own notes, however. Would you recommend I not do this?
@ArcherNewton
@ArcherNewton 3 жыл бұрын
The process of creating your own notes is a huge part of the learning process which is why I avoid just using other student notes. You can use it as a guide to see what you have to study but not as your main notes.

@@ArcherNewton Oh interesting. So I should be creating my own notes, and then creating questions based off of them? Do you have a video on the note-taking bit? :) PS: This is what I am currently doing: learning in class, writing what I need to understand on paper during lecture but just getting rid of it after. Asking questions and googling stuff I don't understand or am curious about. Then, when the teacher is covering something I understand, or at home doing revision, I am making active recall questions based off of past student notes: gyazo.com/0e34998f529f8cbd4b5d4f59d1da684f

It depends on each person's unique factors but I personally have studying as my lowest priority. My number one priority is building relationships in meaningful ways and if I'm not doing that or working, I'll be studying. I also plans my breaks. Hope that helps a bit! Probably a good video to touch on

Also, I'd wish to ask for your advice when it comes to scoping, please include a topic in the situations when subjects aren't neatly ordered like (what i assume) your curriculum is, in my case they're just some loosely related topics with no real chronological order and no centralized source of information to go from, so it's really tough for me to make these types of notes I have instead just compiled them into for example: "muscles" and the material is just too overwhelming to revise, there's just too much.. Any help please? EDIT: I've thought of compiling them according to relation, but when it comes to it it's tougher than i expected. I guess i can split them up to "Make ups of muscles" & then "Function and processes involved in muscular movement" perhaps? I'd like to see your take on this
@ArcherNewton
@ArcherNewton 4 жыл бұрын
MMED is the only really structured class I have, the rest are me trying to fit them under some category. Really the main thing with scoping is doing something that makes sense to you, which means there isn't always the best instructions to how to scope each thing since they can be really different. I'm not sure if you can see my spider diagram I used to scope in this video on my ipad but that one was, in the beginning, relatively unstructured.

How do u know what questions to make
@ArcherNewton
@ArcherNewton 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Evan, Whatever question you might want to ask yourself in the future to see if you remember the concept or something that you would ask your teacher to explain if you could. It takes practise to write better questions (often those that ask why and how) but formatting it as a question is already a lot better than just writing linear notes because of the mental processing required to firstly create the question and then write an answer in your own words. Hope that helps, please let me know any other questions that you have!
