$99 Flowmaster 40 series vs. $22 Totalflow Amazon copy clone knockoff. My thoughts

These are by all visual accounts (weld placement and quality, size, weight etc) identical mufflers. For a dual exhaust rig its $200 vs. $44 A HUGE DIFFERENCE! Is there really a quality or performance difference or are you paying for a name only?

Great video sir. I’m not a fan of Flowmaster in any way But if you Cut them open and check for yourself the Flowmaster’s chambers are fully welded in. The total flow chambers are just tact welded on each end and center. My opinion Black Widow mufflers is the way to go if you want great sound and better performance that’s all I use.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not a paid or professional youtuber or I would definately cut them open. I wonder if the tack welds in the baffles you speak of will fail and if the FM are worth 5x the cost?

I used to work for flowmaster until they outsourced to China just before the pandemic, flowmaster let the patent run out so one of the ex-employees started total flow that's why they look the same.

I have the total flow si/do 40 series copy muffler on my f150 5.0 and it sounds amazing

For sure. I am just preparing for the system on my truck, which has to go through one more emmisions test/registration cycle before its old enough to not test anymore. Then it gets "opened up". It currently has dual 2-1/2" into one OLD (really old) flowmaster, 3" single out. Sounds fantastic. The $22 ones are a 98% perfect knockoff, welds look same, steel quality might be only real variable.

There are very minor differences at the base of inlet/outlet tubes and at the edge of the inlet baffle. The outlet baffles are pretty much the same...you can see a slight difference at the internal baffles looking through the outlet baffle. It is probably just enough different to avoid copyright infringement...but maybe not.

Totalflow is based in the USA in California. I don't know if the actual product is made here. I would like to know as I bought the non chambered style muffler from them and do like it.

As there were no markings of origin on box or product, I doubt made in US. They would brag about that!

I agree. You can see them through the metal by its (welding) distortion and I should have pointed that out. The baffles are not exactly the same but so close I doubt there would be any change in sound or flow. The copy (overall) was just barely different enough to avoid a lawsuit I speculate.

I think flowmaster’s patent on the delta technology has expired, so muffler companies CAN make an exact cheap copy now.

They sound the same look the same but the material is definitely cheaper and a flowmaster will out last them hands down …. With that said if u change mufflers a lot of whatever the case don’t care about then being more durable save the money… I’ve ran both brands both are good
