NARROW ESCAPE - our narrowboat life adventure. In this episode we set off from a beautifully picturesque spot on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal near to Keighley and head towards our first swing bridge of the day. It isn't long though before we reach one of the infamous ones that took 3 people to open on our way past last time. It's time to get the muscles out and give it a go! We pass through Silsden and the home of the hire boat company before the countryside opens up again and we get some lovely scenery. This part of Yorkshire is lovely but it also often has some interesting weather in store....and today is no different. Then we reach Kildwick and the road swing bridge there...at which point our day takes a pretty grim turn in fortune...
JOURNEY - KEIGHLEY to SILSDEN to KILDWICK to SKIPTON
CANALS - LEEDS AND LIVERPOOL CANAL
We hope you'll SUBSCRIBE and support the channel and join us on our big adventure as we learn laugh and cry our way around the UK canal network. If you've ever wondered what life on the canals is like told without scripting or acting then we're sure you'll love what we video. It's authentic. It's real. It's told how it is with a bit of banter and occasional silliness thrown in for free!
We'll be sure to post new videos every week and look forward to taking you on our journey. See you on the next one!

Hello Richard from Kansas - it’s great to hear from you! Purple Lilac smells AMAZING but it turns out you probably know that already? Presumably it smells the same on both sides of the pond?? Thanks for the message 👍

Oh wow. Well watch out for Bridge 192 (the one I opened in this video), it is STIFF!! Is Bridge 191 not out of action at the minute? We saw something on the CRT website to say it was closed due to “vandalism” and some locals thought it might have been bashed by a widebeam?! If we were available we would happily help you out with the bridges but unfortunately we have prior commitments we need to attend - sorry 😢 The local people are very friendly though so hopefully as you say the bridge gods will be with you…or you can latch into another passing boat? If you get chance tomorrow message us back and let us know how you got on? Sending luck from nb JOSH 💪💪🤜👍🤞🤞 Elliott & Sue

I would have said the plant was blue quite vivid with it. Ours is very blue so much so that when the bees have finished foraging it there is a carpet of blue across our front porch. ceanothus concha Or Italian skies. Know in Uk as a Californian lilac. Trevor.

Thanks for that Trevor. It’s funny how people’s brains render colours isn’t it? I just saw a vivid purple (sunglasses on or off) but Sue saw purple or blue depending! It’s fantastic the bees love yours so much although I imagine the pollen reeks havoc if it gets near your carpets? 🐝 🐝 🐝 🐝

@NarrowEscape1
@NarrowEscape1 Жыл бұрын
Ah, are they? Thanks for that. I can help but chuckle when I see the word lilac, because my mother (Elliott typing) says lilac funnily, because she speaks in a thick Bristolian accent so she calls it “Loiy-Lack” and I completely randomly just speak the word “Loiy-Lack” at/to her 🤣🤣🤣 Nice, nice, nice.

Thanks Ian. It was a horrible half hour. What you didn’t see was the angry motorist being rude to Sue. I saw red and took over the ‘conversation’, took the tone that he thought it was acceptable to speak to her in, doubled it and started to talk to him in that manner. He was soon told to get in his car and xxxx xxx (find an alternative route)!!!! Apart from him the people of Kildwick were quite accepting and understanding. Ironically the incident might have done the opposite of what you would expect and it might have cured Sue of her stopping traffic phobia!!! Thanks again E & S

@@NarrowEscape1 oh that's very cheeky Elliot. Poor Sue looked liked she wished she was somewhere else every time you said the word swing Bridge. Anyway well done Sue for doing the swing Bridges even though the canal gods weren't on your side.
@NarrowEscape1
@NarrowEscape1 Жыл бұрын
I think she might develop a sort of nervous ‘shudder’ every time I say the words swing, and bridge. The bridge gods weren’t with us that day but we made it through and only one very heated discussion was needed. Honestly though, I was fuming. Mr Mercedes SUV was really rude and unpleasant when talking to Sue so I just took his demeanour, doubled it and took over the ‘conversation’ between them. Childish perhaps but if he wants to be rude and unpleasant towards people, and Sue in particular who was trying to help and please everyone then guess what, he now has to deal with me. He didn’t like being told some home truths and was sent on his way sharpish in no uncertain terms. Hopefully he will think twice before he launches into the next unsuspecting boater/s he meets who are just going about their business!!!!

Well, My Angel can’t operate below a certain temperature and refuses to get out of bed until it is reached, so I get the stove going, keep our coffee warm on it and then try and shut it down before I melt and can’t breathe!!! It’s a little morning game we play 🤣🤣👍 Fancy sharing an interesting fact with everyone about Missouri? 👍

Another lovely vlog featuring the fabulous Sue, who mastered those swing bridges like a pro. Erm, I mean like a professional helmsperson... 😂 You nentioned whether Kildwick had a centre. Well it has. You moored right next to it last time you were here. It's actually the dead centre of the village, the cemetery and church with those lovely bells, remember? You both look far too young to be retired unless you were in occupations that allow early retirement. Were you an airline pilot by any chance... Nice nice nice! And Sue was obviously into fashion or modelling. ❤ Ok, tell me I'm wrong. You are obviously city dwellers in a previous life as you seem so intrigued by country scenes, flora and fauna, which we Tykes take for granted. Thanks for taking us along with you. When walking around Skipton, watch out for the statue of Freddie Trueman ace Yorkshire cricket fast bowling legend. The famous pork pie shop just around the corner opposite the church is worth checking out. ❤

@NarrowEscape1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Harry - thanks for that message - you’ll make Sue blush!! 😘 Oh yes, we remember the church bells all right! Not the greatest nights sleep that one but very pretty church and some very old graves. Kildwick is lovely, we really enjoyed our little wander around. I would have loved to be an airline pilot other than until I had to start to fly weekly with work (which cures the problem) I used to get air sick. I once went on a flying day some client had set up and it was fabulous flying in the old bi-planes with canvas wings etc etc right up until I got into some stunt plane and he started doing barrel rolls in it 🤢🤢🤢 Sue laughed out loud when i read out your modelling comment - she is so self disparaging I’m constantly telling her to be more positive about herself! The reality is a little more mundane in that we both worked (and still do consultancy work to keep JOSH afloat) in property. It’s why you’ll hear me banging on about windows and architecture a bit…can’t stop myself 🤣 We’re learning on the country stuff because we’re now surrounded by it but neither of us are big city fans. They are interesting to see and experience from the perspective of a boat but not our thing anymore for sure. Thanks for the message! E & S

We’re that busy at the minute K we can’t keep up but we’re putting at least 2, sometimes 3 videos a week out to try and catch up!! The fire though is an interesting one because Sue doesn’t operate below 18 degrees so won’t get out of bed if the boat is colder than that, so i often have the fire on first thing or else nothing gets done that day 🤣🤣 It hasn’t been on since this video though…so we’re saving £ on wood and coal 👍 Hope all is well with you?
