Great stuff. Well said, and accurate! What are your thoughts about firms that have fairly strong opinions (policies) about their staff speaking out (corporate communications domain). In my experience, my firms have said "If you want to speak publicly, you'll need to get pre-approval from leadership". Large financials and other firms can get rather anxious when someone does this, and I've seen people get slapped on the wrist and outright denied when they tried to speak out. I know, mileage can vary; those in positions of authority have more autonomy and there's always the disclaimer "The opinions expressed here are my own" but in my opinion, discretion (and a little homework by way of corporate HR policy) is advised if one is seeking to start branding themselves and putting their own name out there against the firm's. I get it; some firms would be happy to have their name on a marque, but others want to manage the message and the messengers (grin). Thoughts?

Find something you feel you can write about - you don't have to venture into constrained topics - but you could write "editorial" content / opinion type content and work your way toward the heavier subject matters as you're credentials improve. Good luck!
