The flaw with marking your depth as demonstrated on here is if you damage or lose your rig and need to change you'll have to plumb up again. If elastic stretching mono bothers you mark depth from hook to float whilst not attached to elastic.

Stotz or any such variation have a tendency to move. Not in my opinion a foolproof method for marking depth. A great idea when combatting ripple, though.

I am not having a go at anybody, but I am genuinely struggling to see the point of fishing these type of waters. Even in an attractive landscape they look barren and featureless, so natural beauty and wildlife is not a reason to fish them. Then there is the fact that they are stuffed with fish, to the point where many ponds need an oxygen pump. Thirty years ago, we would have called them 'stock ponds'. I love fishing old, overgrown ponds and rivers, but I honestly can not see the point in catching lots of very hungry carp and hybrids one after another. Far from going home feeling I had achieved something, I would go home feeling guilty and slightly ashamed of myself, as there is something obscene about 'bagging up'. It is not the fishing that I grew up with and it all seems a bit pointless really. The phrase 'shooting ducks in a barrel' springs to mind. A bit like having a dart board with a huge bullseye and treble 20. I know that skill is required to win matches, as the fish eventually wise up with pressure and become harder to catch, but to me, F1's are much less beautiful than true crucians and don't grow as big as king carp, so, again, what is the actual point? If I feel this way, I dread to think what non-anglers make of it all. In fact, I feel that it is enough to turn an indifferent and bemused non-angler into an anti-angler.

I hear ya mate. This is the crux of commercial fisheries, it’s really not for me. Give me a river or natural, feature filled lake any day. Fishing for fish that don’t rely on angler’s bait to live provides a much fairer challenge.

The true hard fishing now is in commercials as natural venues are nit fished as much and thus the fish in them are not as wise.
@portcullis56223 жыл бұрын
@@danielskinner6377 Not sure I agree. There are a lot less fish, so finding them is the hard part, especially with a lot of predators around. I am not saying that the heavily fished carp puddles don't require skill, but if they were that hard, the riverbanks and older lakes would be packed with anglers (and they are not).

@@portcullis5622 Well, I fish both of them and I this is what I think.
@portcullis56223 жыл бұрын
@@danielskinner6377 That is fine, but I still don't see the attraction (or the point) of fishing such places. Each to their own.
