My buddy has this tent, I have the Polaris plus. They are identical. The same Chinese company makes both the Naturenest as well as the Wildfinder tent, they just change the color way to what the buying company wants. It’s A-B marketing. This tent is identical to the Polaris Plus. Both great options!

Definitely seems like it could go either way. I think the Wildfinder has been out a bit more and tested by more people so unless the port is a real dealbreaker (I just put mine through the screen) then I might go with the Wildfinder just because there's more info out there?

Nice review. How strong are the struts and are they easily replaceable? Mainly, I want to carry my recovery gear in a rifle case and canoe on top of the tent. I’m only concern is if the tent can still open and stay open with weight on the racks.
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! They are pretty strong. Not sure of actual capacity or how much they could lift but I would say as long as your recovery gear isn't super heavy ( like all metal d-rings or something) you'd probably be fine. They should be easy to replace as you just pull the allen head bolt out and you could hypothetically replace the shock with any you wanted that were the same length.

I followed the link but it lists no info on Dimensions and Weight of this RTT. Can you provide that info? Also I'd like to have more info on the components (fabric and weight of the tent material, zippers (YTT?), etc.
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 2 ай бұрын
Dimensions are I’m in the video at about 10:52. Weight per wildfinder is about 140. Zippers don’t appear to be YKK. Material is dark out and moderately heavy but I would say it’s a 4 season tent. Extremely similar to the Naturnest though which I’ve used through fall and winter and with a diesel heater, it was fine. Hope that helps!
@adioalexsk8
@adioalexsk8 Ай бұрын
I like how it’s a hard top to with roof rails! Do you happen to know the weight rating for the struts? I’d like to maybe throw a kayak or cargo boxes on top of there on my rig and set up. What do you think? If the weight is too much, I’d imagine and hope the struts could be easily replaced and upgraded?
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding Ай бұрын
I would think the struts could easily be replaced if you just measured them and got the same length. But they are really strong. I've had a couple of solar panels up there and even a box with some recovery gear in it and it was fine opening that. So I think a kayak and cargo boxes (depending on what's in them) would probably be fine.

I don't think it would be unsafe, but it would probably look a little goofy. I ran a similar wedge style tent on my old truck and it hung off the back quite a bit and worked fine, but just looked super long because of the overhang.

Great review! I have a question if you have time. Can the LOSTHORIZON Air & Foam Camping Mattress, that you use, be left inside the tent when the tent is closed? I am hoping that I can open the valve and leave it laid out inside my new Nature Nest Polaris Plus when closed and under way.

Hi ya, so i’ve watched your video on this and the nature nest along with many others and I can’t honestly remember which ones say what at this point so what would you say are the actual differences between this and the nature nest and which would you prefer? I only ask as I’m looking into one of these as a second rooftop tent for another vehicle. I’ve had a tepue Hybox and currently have a James Baroud, but not looking to spend that kind of money for a second tent, both of these seem to be a good fit for my next project just wondering what the real difference are.
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding Ай бұрын
Honestly, they are basically the same tent. The nature nest and wild finder are extremely similar. If it was me and I was getting a second tent, I would happily go with the wild fighter just to save a few hundred bucks and have a decent quality tent for the money.

I like the idea of rtt. I'm not sure what style they are where you can access it from the truck bed. I like the idea of that for access, but I'm not married to any idea yet. Right now just ground camping until i find the right vehicle to "build" the purpose built one
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 2 ай бұрын
That sounds more like a GFC style camper. Those are super nice, but they just cost a lot more than a plain old roof top tent. However, by the time you figure in the cost of a rack (or enclosed cap) plus the RTT, sometimes you can get pretty close to the cost of the GFC so it's a toss up. The thing I like about this tent is that for basically $1000 you're getting a hard shell, super fast and easy to set up and tear down RTT that you can start with and then if you love it, you only spent $1000 so you can get a ton of use out of it without spending $2K plus like most RTT's. Then there's also resale value so you could probably use it for a couple of years and then sell it for $500 pretty easily and switch to a different style if you want once you know you like being up in the air.
@michaels2208
@michaels2208 2 ай бұрын
@AllThingsOverlanding true. I hate spending money so I'm more likely to get one like this you shared here. Especially starting off, because there are going to be a couple "must have" things i don't need but can rationalize the expense. A ton on a rtt will be probably later. I can get a cot and a ground tent. Or I really liked the set up you did another review on. A cot with tent.
@AllThingsOverlanding

@ yeah, that cot tent thing is awesome and really inexpensive. And this tent is a really good value for the money, but it is definitely more than a cot tent.

Huh, weird. I wonder if they learned their lesson and switched to wood to protect it better? All my other RTT's have come in cardboard and one of them had a dent in it, but no deal breaking damage. I will say, I talked to their USA rep and he was awesome and very interested in continuing to improve their packaging, the features of the tent, etc. He said they planned to add a diesel heater port in the near future for example to add even more value.

Can you store your pillow & sleep bag inside?
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 2 ай бұрын
Yes and no. So, sleeping bag is easily stored in there. Pillow really depends on the size. If you remove the stock mattress and put in an inflatable or a Hest that only takes up about half of the width, then you can put a pillow beside it. That's basically how I make it work.

I like the idea of a RTT, but a few things are keeping me from buying one. I don't want it on the vehicle at all times (only for extended trips) and I cannot put it up and take it down by myself. I don't really want a bunch of extra weight that high on the vehicle since I do more difficult trails at times. And typically I would consider them overpriced. These budget friendly tents are much better in that regard however. Maybe someday, but for now I will wait.
@AllThingsOverlanding

All those reasons makes sense. I’ll leave mine on all the time, but I know there are some people that have used winches or hand cranks to uninstall them and hang them from the ceiling of their garage. My truck, however, with the lift and tires and rooftop tent isn’t even close to fitting in my garage.

@@Foodmeow Yeah, that weight came from the manufacturer, but I haven't weighed it.
