Our dream to create the worlds fastest two stroke motocross machine has very nearly been realised. Episode 6 of Project 700 goes behind the scenes of the Megalodon's final build, showing the mechanical headaches we had to overcome in the workshop and we finally attempt to get the beast started. I just roll start my 81 465 (3rd oversize) Yamy It and I sure know that feeling. The fastest and best powerband came from my yz 250 (last oversize) and even in top gear it wanted to throw me off the back. A D frame with an f motor. Never flipped it but witnessed a couple of people that went gun ho on it and it didn't hesitate to wipe the smile off of their face when they managed to pick themselves up from the dirt they had bitten. Hey man it reminds me of starting my dads 1980 Yamaha MX400 I couldn’t ride it until I could start it. I learned you have to get the piston to the top of the chamber before you kick it. Otherwise it’ll throw you. I was 11 years old. Circa 1981

The pipe fitment issues really hit me close to home. I put a ton of effort into my rebuild of a Kawasaki triple street bike. The crowning jewel was the set of polished stainless expansion chambers. Once everything was completed and we started putting the pipes on, it quickly became evident that they didn't fit AT ALL. The maker of the pipes was glad to correct them for free, but shipping back to England from Oregon was going to be $900 for a 2-month boat ride. I was so devastated, I went and bought the biggest milkshake I could find and then went to bed at 5pm. Eventually found a local guy to hack and weld the pipes to fit properly. It was an ugly job but fortunately mostly out of sight.
