Me too! I was around that age and can relate. There’s a subgeneration called “The Lucky Ones, “Oregon Trail Generation,” or “Gen Catalano.” It’s for people who were born as late as 1983, or 1984 if you push hard.Ah, I forgot, they also call this group “Xennials.” That is its actual MAIN name. I forgot - because anything “ennial” makes me uncomfortable. As a kid, in my house we once used a TV that was black and white and a phone that was big and heavy. It was something that looked so old it could be in a 1930s movie, and I remember using it. I had to stay next to the phone because I didn’t have cordless until the mid 90s. I remember that. I remember no computers necessary, what a golden time. If people born when I was born want to identify as Millenial that’s fine, but I don’t identify as such.

@LIVERNIL753, I like your comment. Bonehead and Liam were lovely and innocent. Taking drugs and having sex don't take your innocence. Noel on the other hand seemed cool, but was never innocent. When I rewatch old interviews it's clear the dynamic was there from the start...Noel admits he's a dictator. Anyone can live under a dictator... it's easy.Just stfu and do what you're told,you'll be fine. But if you won't submit there's trouble. You can see in the early interviews Liam is happy to look to a future playing music with his brother forever and Noel seems to be already calculating life beyond Oasis....maybe. Anyway I see two genuine innocents, and one cool customer who really did touch millions😊

I can't help but be impressed at how he angles the microphone down to sing with the posture of a 16th century barber wondering how the smoke detector got there. I also think it's impressive that he resolutely refuses to use his arms in any expressive way whatsoever. This makes the singing look far more physically challenging than it actually is - even though deep down we know he has full use of his arms and owns a private mine shaft.

It irks me when people say his voice is great today. Its not. This was when his voice WAS great. All the drugs and booze destroyed his voice to the point where now he has to sing through his nose.

@@thatrollinstoner7437 Thank you my friend and yeah I agree with you 17 is no age to go. I can still remember we're I was on that sunny day back in 2001. It brought a whole neighborhood of people together. They were different groups who would fall out and fight but after that day we all came together and they was an unwritten rule that we don't fight or fall out with our own. Sadly the younger ones who weren't born then are now shooting and stabbing each other on that same estate. Anyway thank you for your kind comment. God bless my friend. 🙏♥️🏴

Wow.. at 38yrs old this really took me back to being 14 yrs old and hearing these tunes for the 1st time. Before Oasis came along british music had been in a desperate place for a few years. I felt like i suddenly had an identity when Oasis showed up.. thank you Noel 😊

Yeah, we only had Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, Blur, Charlatans, Teenage Fanclub, Suede, Auteurs, Manic Street Preachers, The La's and like thousands of other bands
@jonnyneill36192 жыл бұрын
Teenage Fanclub.. 😅😅😅.. Amongst all those bands there was perhaps 1 or 2 decent songs released between 1990 and 1994.. My point being that 1994 was a watershed moment for indie music.. you're obviously older than me though so peace out.. ✌️ 😅

Late to this conversation but I’d argue that Oasis brought something different and with much broader appeal. Whether that was their music or simply the cultural atmosphere of the times I don’t know but their arrival marked an inflexion point in British music that we haven’t seen since imo. Hopefully it brought that broader audience to find many of the bands mentioned here, so many of whom are legends in their own right (can I add the Smiths to the list please). Oasis are not the high point of British music, but they did find themselves as flag bearers to its burgeoning appeal.

Shame they never recorded Liam’s vocal in a natural way like this on a record… in a way that captures the raw emotional vulnerability. Not a word you’d use to describe Liam very often… but this is a really special recording of a band on the eve of their supernova.
