Bienvenue mes enfants! I found the 9Bar more interesting, and more competent, than I'd expected. Is it as good as the Cafelat Robot? I can't really decide: they might be equal but not identical, if that makes any sense. Enjoy!

In my view, one of the key differences between the 9Barista and the Robot is the number wear components, long term maintenance requirements, and ability to self to destruct. The Robot only has 2 wear items as far as I can tell (the gaskets), whereas the 9Barista has several (valves, gaskets, seals, etc). The 9Barista can also be damaged from overheating. 9Barista seems like it would be easier to achieve consistency though, in addition to having a very slightly better brew quality in general.

Great review. I love the engineering here and immediately want to buy this just out of how interesting it is, but the robot is so simple in a charming way, with a simpler work flow so I could make another shot quickly if I needed to. It's a difficult decision for me to choose which one to buy.

Would really appreciate any comments on the safety of the safety valve! There seems to have been a myriad of potential misused cases causing various “explosions.” 1) Upon scrutinizing the build and design from your expert perspective, would you say one shouldn’t encounter any safety issues as long as it is used in proper accordance with directions? 2) How do you feel about the clogging you encountered, and how often do you feel that may occur even upon using the paper filter? Truly appreciate your opinion, and have been finding all of your videos extremely informative and reliable in their unbiased and technical, objective, and non-commercial recommendations 🎉 (versus majority of other “reviewer/influencers”) Looking forward to more❤

@The Wired Gourmet I have the same combo (9Barista + 1Zpresso K-Plus). Friendly advice regarding moving the coffee from 1zpresso bottom container to the portafilter. I think you are doing it wrong. Try this: when you are done grinding, put the empty portafilter on top of the container (as a baseball cap) and make sure the magnets on the container are in good contact with the lip of the portafilter. Now rapidly turn the whole thing upside down and shake down a few times to flatten the heap of coffee inside the portafilter. Voila! No mess and all the coffee is where it needs to be.

The 9barista has a reverse portafilter, this will allow for the CO2, released during blooming, to escape easily and allow for a more consistent extraction.

I literally don’t understand why your channel didn’t blow up yet.. maybe it’s just me and I have a similar taste to you and appreciate your honesty/way of approaching things but I have to say that I absolutely love your videos. By the way I used to be one of them crazy cross-shoppers but got the robot due to higher longevity (perceived and partly based on number of components potentially to be replaced) and never looked back!

Thank you very much for a great video and review! I'm very interested in both 9Barista and Cafelat Robot. Kind of not exactly a fan of comparing different equipment under the exact same conditions (09:27). I'm more interested in a personal opinion based on more complex evaluations. So my question could still be which one make a tastier coffee but on their own terms, especially considering all the flexibility of the Robot.

Thanks for a great video. I have adopted a very similar technique, though I have a preference for lighter roast speciality coffee. I have started using Weiss needle distribution tool and a lower tamping pressure, with a ratio of 17.5g in to 38 out, and I’m getting very pleasing, consistent shots. I agree about the IMS precision basket - I fell for it and really, I’d say I can barely tell the difference. I also agree it isn’t about workflow. It’s a slow coffee thing, which is the best way to enjoy espresso (and I get the irony with wanting to slow down my espresso 😀) So I agree on pretty much all your points, even though we clearly have different preferences in coffee. 👍

Thanks for the video! It does look like a really good machine. If you use pre-heated water, does it help to reduce the 4-minute heating time? For me, I'd feel less comfortable working with those temperatures on a daily basis. Would love to also hear your thoughts on something like the Picopresso that became so popular lately.

I never preheat the Robot. The smooth, fast workflow is part of what I love about it :)
@phildawes2351
@phildawes2351 2 жыл бұрын
In my experience it's not the robot portafilter but the piston that needs pre warming. Easy way to do this without wrecking workflow: use one of those burger joint ketchup pots, half fill with hot water and push it on the piston (it stays due to suction). Then fill your portafilter as normal, remove pot and continue as normal. Just a few seconds is enough to affect the brew temp a few degrees. Pot then doubles up as a drip catch cup after the stopping the shot
@Theplebs

You mention pouring it out sooner to achieve a ristretto. I've emailed the company and they suggest this too. When I tried this with a Moka pot the pressure continued to push out coffee so I found I couldn't pour less, a ristretto, and the coffee wasn't nice. Do you think this would happen with the 9barista? Also the makers suggest putting less water in and cold water in the top chamber to make ristretto. I don't think I understand this process and what it would achieve enough to take the plunge and spend the money. Maybe I will come back to these videos.

Dear Thomas, Just to be clear about your darker roast preference: do you mean the robot performs better when dealing with different sorts of roasts? For a lighter roast enthusiast, would the robot be a better choice than the 9barista? Thank you, I adore your videos, a warm hug from Brazil!
@wiredgourmet
@wiredgourmet 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think the 9Bar might have the edge with lighter roasts, as I got away with slightly finer grinding and it hits a slightly higher temp. I wouldn't read too much into my flavor observation: the coffee itself would have had a lot to do with that, and also the grinder I was using. Too many variables for me to offer advice with confidence :)

I'm guessing you're new around here :) I'm often concerned with temperature, which I point out is about the only espresso variable you can change at will without affecting, or needing to alter, any others: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p32zgYmdbredrqM . I also mention it in the V60 Voodoo piece, and will explore it more deeply in the "advanced" follow-up to that video.

Many thanks for your tips and tricks video. I apologise in advance for my lack of understanding but you talk of 40-50 seconds being a sweet spot for extraction, but then go on to state 30 seconds or longer, yields a poor shot. I presume I'm mixing two different things up and I was hoping you could clarify for the dunderklumpen that I am?

@wiredgourmet
@wiredgourmet Жыл бұрын
According to 9Barista: "We've never tried putting milk in the machine, but bearing in mind the temperature at which milk burns and the temperature reached in the lower boiler, the most likely result is burned milk and a machine that requires a deep clean. So it's not recommended!"

Every time I have tried a Moka style pot (3 different models), the seals have been an issue because they imparted a rubber flavor to the coffee. I like well extracted darker roasts more than lighter roasts, but I also like fast efficient workflows. Forgetting this pot and leaving on the heat too long looks like it will ruin the pot very quickly.
