I remember in highschool a friend of mine told me, "you have to come out to the parking area, there was a car there with a Corvette front end on it"!!! I remember telling my friend what kind of car it was before I even saw it and yes, it was a Superbird!!! This is a fine example of Superbird for sure!!! Funny how that car has actually traveled more miles in haulers than what it has actually been driven, lol. It is also funny how these cars are so valuable now and the dealers couldn't give them away back when they were new, some were stripped of their noses and wings in order to get them sold, and If you see one in that condition, always look for the wider stainless on the "A" posts as a dead giveaway. Another fun fact, the reason that all Superbirds had vinyl tops was because of the rushed production. From what I have always read, there wasn't time to smooth out the roof sheetmetal when the smooth rear window plug was added so they just covered it all up with a vinyl top. The Superbird and Daytona Charger were the kings of the Superspeedway back in the NASCAR Aero War days. This fine example looks so nice in white with the black top and interior, always a nice color combination and who doesn't love a big ol rumblin 440 under the hood??? Very nice clean original Superbird Lou!!! Beep Beep!!!

It was around 1980, I was with a friend in the '73 Ford pickup, we were stopped at a traffic light headed north bound Gratiot Avenue at 12 Mile Road in Roseville, Michigan. On the south east corner of the intersection stood a Korvette shopping center and a large parking lot where many of the locals would hang out- showing off their vehicles. I looked to the right and there was a Super Bird attempting to exiting the lot, attempting to pull out onto Gratiot. There was fire dripping out from under his engine bay. The driver had no clue, he just sat there waiting for traffic to clear. Sadly the car burnt to the ground. I'll never forget it. Probably just a fuel leak that turned into something catastrophic. As always Lou, I enjoy your work !

What a great Superbird! I agree with the other commenters - it was unreal that these sat on the dealership lot and in fact, some were retrofitted to be “standard” Road Runners by changing the nose and taking off the rear wing. Was a kid with my dad when he bought a red 70 with black vinyl top with a 383 auto. I wanted him to buy the super bird in the showroom, but he thought it was the ugliest car he'd ever seen and pointed out the rather terrible factory fit of the nose and "useless" wing. I ended up totaling the red one in 78 after I got my license. He wasn't good at getting rid of stuff and had a black 73 challenger that is still in the family. He didn't let me near that.

Awesome Superbird Lou ! I had a chance to purchase one 30+ years ago. She was beat up sitting outside, and sinking into the ground. My friend told me about her, and he had spoken to the owner. He wanted $5000. for her, so I went the next day to check her out. Just like he said, she was in need of all kinds of repairs. No one was home, so I left a note at the door. You could tell that the property was being developed, and the old house was going to be torn down eventually. I went the next day...the next night...I went several times leaving notes every where. Then I couldn't go back for a short while, and the next time I went up she was gone and the house was gone too. The new development was started, and nobody knew anything about it. 😒 Funny thing was, she was the exact duplicate to your featured vehicle in the video. What a before and after picture that would've made! All this happened off Rt 287 in Northern NJ in case anyone remembers the car. Someone knows of her history, since so few of them made! Sweet Bird! I remember hearing a story of a Superbird sitting on a dealership lot until 1972 because it was too expensive to attract any serious buyers. I think it was a Lemon Twist Yellow one, but it was a Hemi Bird. Finally a guy in '72 offered to buy the engine out of it, and they sold it to him, then ordered a replacement engine for it, and they finally sold it not too long after that, at a significant loss, just to finally get rid of it. Somebody got a great deal on a 2 year old brand new Hemi Superbird! 🤷♂️

The original white paint with contrasting original black vinyl roof and sweet rally wheels really complete the look as a bona fide factory holy grail supercar. This color scheme is tops and I wouldn't have changed a thing had I been lucky enough to order one of these myself in '69 or '70. Gee whiz, Lou, an unmolested, survivor '70 Superbird with just a few miles on her is quite a story in itself, but to see it up close and personal in all its mint condition glory, along with its super nice caretakers - is the definitive 'My Car Story'. OMG! Lou!!!! I cant with this car!!!! Its GORGEOUS!!!!! First word that comes to mind....Powerful!!!!! The engine....was that a 383 Hemi like the Daytona? Anyway Id probably faint in the presence of this car....its that AMAZING!!!! To drive one just once is on the bucket list for sure!!!
@fuzz7boy2 жыл бұрын
@Tammy Gunnell there is no "383 Hemi" engine. Standard engine on the Superbird was a 440 cubic inch. Optional was the 426 Hemi. Look at kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqS5faGIr51moa8 to see which one this car has.

@@loucostabile As much as I love the '70 Superbird and Plymouth in general, I can't comprehend how anyone could ever give preference to that (or any other car on earth for that matter) over a '70-'71 T/A the Greatest of All that ever was or will be!

Incredible‼️ 👍 such a rare treat to find this or any car of this age in this original condition, even the original tires! I am really amazed someone hasn’t bastardized it yet and I hope it never happens. Can you imagine this was less money than a Mach1❗️now I love Mach1’s so don’t get me wrong but I’d never pay the price and ill bet the Mach 1 was not original.

Considering they've kept every brochure from the original purchase intact and in mint condition.... they should handle all those brochures with gloved hands to prevent the oils from the hands from doing any long term harm.

The reason for the vinyl top mandatory on all Superbirds is to hide the metal work of the Flush rear window. Why the Daytona doesn't have a Vinyl top I. don't know. I believe that these cars were send 1 per dealer, not sure if customers could order one. I think the plain white, might have effected it's price.
