Buddy, ya gotta get further back from the chrono. It'll solve most of the error issues.

Another examp,le of you going the extra mile (wounded thumb) to provide us great content. Hope that thing heals up soon. The HST never seems to fail. Maybe Federal switched powder causing a change in velocity. Maybe (I'm just guessing) the new stuff is designed to be more flash suppressed for LE and this particular recipe provided a little less velocity?

The newer HSTs have primer sealant. Knowing your ammunition is more water resistant would be a reason to pick the newer iteration, considering the terminal effect is essentially identical.

What's +P about that +P ? It certainly wasn't faster , nor was there any increase in penetration depth or increased expansion with the projectile . Heck , I'd go with the std. pressure round if they're still loaded like that today . But all that said , I can see why Federal HST is still the "go to" round for those in the know . I've yet to see any of 'em perform poorly regardless of caliber . Great test , DDR , love the channel !

Got some SKS thumb a couple of weeks ago, myself. 👍🏻 Really interesting, the pressure vs power. I wonder if that would be reversed in a longer barrel, or perhaps the older batches were just loaded stronger?...

Impressive test results, Dave. 👍 In agreement that price shopping between the two HST offerings is the way to go. Too bad about your unusual, unconventional thumb injury, but painful and inconvenient though it may be, it's still orders of magnitude better than a negligent discharge would have been. Keep up the good work! 👍

Hey my 2nd Ballistics Test I haven't released yet...not positive chrono right but from 3.2" 124 hst 1055 fps avg and punch 1080

Punch does that well? Is it cheaper than HST? How’s the expansion?

@GeographyCzar good and uniform though slightly less than hst. Softer lead not made to penetrate barriers as well but for short barrels or snubbie 9mm I think it is very impressive. Buckeye Ballistics got 1078 & 1097 in shots and very good performance as did Gun Sam though his chrono seems fast. Tnoutdoors9 as well 3.1" 1078fps. Either one is great. If you're in & around vehicles go w the hst (or 124 plus p gold dots) otherwise Punch seems great. I'll send you a hidden link if you want to give your email and check out those other guys vids

You're standing too close to the chronograph, you need to be at least 10 feet back.

I've noticed some of my older ammo is loaded warmer than the new ammo. Interesting I wonder if its done intentionally?

Taurus makes a very reliable small 9mm. Federal HST is one of the best bullets on the self defense market. Personally I don't care about 9mm but in this test, it's done admirably.
