You're not looking for velocity when looking for self defense ammo. you want to look at the foot pounds of the ammo that you're shooting! A lot of the ammo on the market like the Gold Dot and the federal punch ammo only have about 100 ft pounds of stopping power behind them . But if you get something like Winchester super X it has 345 foot pounds! The foot pounds is what stops the attacker! I would choose Winchester super X soft point which expands twice the size on impact. Most ammo stores will list the foot pounds on the ammo under the description. If you scroll down it'll say like how many fps how many foot pounds and the grain. The higher the foot pounds the better for stopping power 💪

Shot something with it Jesus 😒 who cares how fast it's going! That doesn't mean anything! What matters is the damage it does and the foot pounds behind it. A 45 ACP round travels at 955 per second what does that mean?? Some 22 LR travel at 2200 doesn't mean it's going to stop someone. People just want to see what it's going to do to something you're shooting at that's why we clicked on the video! Weird

That doesnt look like the Sierra 115 gr bullet that they used for years. It looks like one of those hybrid plated hollow points. My older loads go 1260 fps from a 3.5 inch G26.

I carry the buffalo bore in my K6s 4” barrel, while fishing in western Wyoming. They do get your attention. I bounce back and forth .357 and a 10mm. It depends on where I’m going, if someone is going with me and the weather.

The bullets in the cylinder jump the crimp due to excessive recoil. Then the cylinder is hard to turn.

I prefer the CCI mini mag in 40 grain round nose for the reliability. I think that is much more important than velocity when your life depends on it. If you get into a defensive situation the LAST thing you want is a stoppage. I like a reliable round.

If you actually take the time to IDK look at Buffalo Bores website you can easily see that the Heavy Outdoorsman loading is for larger heavier weight revolvers like a Ruger GP100. The original 357 Magnum load full power was 158 grains at 1500 fps. It was at one time the most powerful revolver on earth. Kinda silly now considering that 460XVR and 500 are a thing. Regardless that's WAY too much recoil, muzzle flip , flash, noise and unburned powder out of THIS revolver when you can get 9mm loads that will equal your results here. I wouldn't go with any more than a decent 125 grain JHP load in this revolver and even that will not be pleasant, if you just HAVE TO HAVE magnum loads ...A Buffalo Bore 38 Special "FBI type" load would go in this for me because its just too tiny , and use of magnums a forced issue if thats all I had. So it would be on a salad diet permanently😂

It’s called…lack of experience. This is why I would buy a Colt or a Smith & Wesson or a Ruger or maybe even a Charter Arms over a Kimber revolver. Kimber is very new to making revolvers and this appears to me to be a design issue that could have emerged from lack of experience with this platform. Eventually they may fix it but I will stick with brands that have been doing this for a while.

Of all the .380 HP ammo out there, the only one that seems to perform well with both penetration and expansion is Hornady critical defense. That's what I carry in my Ruger LCP MAX. I'm also looking to buy some Underwood extreme defender. I have plenty of FMJ range ammo and, if push comes to shove, I'd use FMJ range ammo defensively.

I'm thinking that there is a minor timing issue. Some part like the hand, pawl, or bolt is slightly out of spec. If you fill the cylinder with snap caps and then use one hand to try and retard the cylinder rotating (not too hard) while you pull the trigger, you should be able to reproduce the problem without using ammunition. The bolt should be moving back up when there is only a little rotation of the cylinder. The hand and pawl engagement is what performs the actual rotation of the cylinder. You should definitely be able to feel something going wrong as you squeeze the trigger while using your other hand to gently try and rotate the cylinder CW (as seen from the rear). It may or may not happen with all chambers.

Problem I have with the Hornady is the fact that they make the Meplat too narrow for the calibers. Only the 9mm is passable. And I rarely use 9 mm that aren't at least 124 grain + hollow points. The 155 grain 40 Smith looks really promising but I still prefer a more truncated cone hollow point because it tends to feed better

Just from watching this - looks like the hand/ratchet engagement doesn't positively control the cylinder rotation through all points of the firing cycle. The lopsided weight of 3 rounds is pulling clockwise and the hand/ratchet engagement is not maintaining counter-clockwise rotation. Broken or defect, imho.

I’m not as concerned about 3 180g bullets causing that malfunction if the other 3 cylinders are empty, but if there are 3 empty brass shells in the other 3 cylinders and it STILL does that , that is a huge concern.

@@sparky_-mf2cs I’m not as concerned because the chances that I’ll use my K6S with a 180g buffalo bore 357 for anything except range use is slim to none. I wouldn’t trust it even if it was considered bulletproof. I’d rather go up a size to my tracker 627, which allows better recoil absorption and an extra shot. Nobody hunts with a K6S, and I doubt anyone is carrying this revolver for the woods. It was meant to be a conceal carry gun. Just my thoughts.

@xkben90 you have a point but for a 1000 dollar firearm i would still be maybe not concerned but pissed off...🤣 ther could be a chance that happens to a 158 gr and i would not wana take that chance especially on an EDC gun...

It’s a sign of either poor timing of the action, worn action or a possibly poorly designed action. Over the years I’ve identified similar issues in worn revolver actions. I always test a revolver by basically pulling it through double and single action while pushing somewhat firmly against the rotation of the cylinder with the other hand. When the bolt drops to allow cylinder rotation the hand (the internal action hand that engages the star to rotate the cylinder) should already be engaged but with the counter rotation pressure you may sense a slight counter movement but the hand should never let it rotate back to the prior chamber and should push through the resistance to align the next chamber. As I said it’s either worn, not likely in a new gun, poorly timed and tuned or a sign of a poor design and results in a revolver of dubious reliability.

Every single 5 or 6 shot double-action revolver ever made will have the same weight-shift happen as you fire rounds in succession. A full cylinder is balanced, soon as you fire 2 or 3 rounds, the weight shifts to the side where remaining loads are. That should have absolutely nothing to do with this free-rotating phenomenon. That is a flaw, a problem, and needs fixed.

Interesting. I did see Gun Sam's situation with the Taurus 856. I'm curious if the same thing might happen if you had loaded six rounds, and after the first three are fired, it becomes out-of-balance enough to happen, with three rounds, and three empties?
@exothermal.sprocket

Hmm... I'm interested to see what Kimber has to say. I wonder if this is common to all revolvers with that heavy of a load. I might have to get some 180 grain and take out one of my Old Smiths and see if I can replicate this at the range...

I recently chronographed several 115 +P and +P+ from several handguns. Check out the Double Tap 115 +P Controlled Expansion. That load clocked 1342 fps from a 3.25" Wilson SFX9, and 1416 from a Sig 365 XL 3.7" barrel!
