That dog is surely a good student. I bet he learned so much about the history of 9mm. vs. .38 Special lesson.

Dogs and Guns......They just go together ! It's AMERICAN !!! Good test Christopher with what you had to work with in the ammo area. 125grain for the 9mm would have been closer, but it is what it is for the moment !!

Good video.. There is VERY little in this. I still believe the .38 special is a good well proven "Man stopper" The .38 was and still is used by police forces around the World to this day. Shot placement is FAR more important. Hint.. A well placed .38 round is MUCH better than a bad shot with a 9mm You could drop a bad guy with a .38+p round. It is all about "Shot placement"

Don't buy ammo at walmart. After buying ammo there five or six times, I never will again. I only bought quality brand ammo, yet every box had at least one or two defective rounds. Some had malformed bullets, while others had chunks missing from the case mouth. One even had extra brass around the case mouth, and wouldn't even fit in the chamber. They obviously buy the ammo from defective lots, or the boxes that didn't pass quality control inspection.

Sorry Chris ,this test is bogus!. #1 The 1" longer barrel Is not going to make that much difference at the 6ft. your shooting it.. #2 Some engery is lost all revolvers, due to cylinder gap, where as the 9mm or autos have a closed chamber..#3 you are using the lowest charged 38 round.. #4 Your 9mm is a Round nose bullet!, Your 38 was Flat nose! = Round nose penatrates deeper , but with less or little expantion. Flat nose dumps it's engery faster at near the surface , with less penetration!. Why did'nt you use round nose 38s. to make it fair???. Lets make this real simple!. An ice pick and a hammer which one will penatrate one of your boards easier?. The 9mm has a bullet weight grain range of 90 to 147. Avg.115 - 124. The 38 bullet range is 110-180,Avg. 140- 158, Big difference!. #5..Yes they make 9mm+p, and 38+p ...bla bla.. Now if your goal is to justify or prove the 9mm is good or worth having, equal or in any sence better, then think again.. These days most people own a .357 that shoots 38s too!. Here is where the 9mm Looses and all other autos with it!. Right up to the 10mm auto!. So the lowest .357 load equals the highest 9mm load, So Why buy shoot ,own a 9mm ?? you got me... Owning a .357 is like haveing an 8 cylinder hemi, running at half throttle with 38s.. Now add to that..The multitude of different bullet types that can be used in a .357 wad cutters, rnd nose, flat points ,hollow points, jacketed, strait lead, plated, New hornady plastic tip ftx!!..on and on ,not 9mm!. Oh i forgot snake shot too!..Now lets put both in a rifle, ..357 ,henry 20"barrel = knocks down deer at 150 yards at 1900-2000 fps... The 9mm, well lets just stop right here and forget it..........

Davey Crockett The comparison was 9mm to .38 it had nothing to do with .357 as far as the real comparison goes check out ballistics101.com they will back up everything in my video. Obviously if I had to semi autos to use I would have but I didn't and I stated that. Try a comparison video on decaffeinated and caffeinated coffee.
@Renaldo1356 жыл бұрын
His test is not bogus at all. The factors you mention are accurate but 9mm does have more muzzle energy than even a 38 special plus p round. Quit typing just to try and show off what you thank you know about ballistics and be grateful for the video.

In a vacuum, I might agree with you. However, this test has been done so many times on KZbin that we knew the results before he ever pulled the trigger. None of the fixes to the test you mention would've changed the winner.

.38 also has a few hundredths of an inch larger diameter bullet, right? Not much difference, and lead bullets usually do have slightly larger di. than their FMJ counterparts. Lead bullets tend to be heavier and rely on momentum and bullet weight more. Copper bullets tend to be lighter, have less friction, and rely more on energy and velocity. Traditional .38 should have softer, slower recoil, while 9mm should have harder, faster recoil. I probably would've compared the 124 grain 9mm to the 125 or 130 grain .38, though, just to make it a fairer comparison. Also, since barrel lengths in pistols include the chamber, and barrel lengths in revolvers exclude the chamber(s), I'd probably compare a .38 revolver with 4" barrel VS a pistol with 5" barrel.

Thousandths. About 0.355 for 9mm and 0.357 for .38 Special. In many places .38 Special is called 9x29mmR.
@Bama_Law8 жыл бұрын
I like your humour. But the 9mm is a bit smaller than the.38. The 9mm is.355 in diameter and the.38 is.357.

Dude are you going to do the tests between the 357mag and the 44mag or is that just a waist of time? I'm sure the 44 would penetrate better but it would still be cool to watch.

@pyrofful7 жыл бұрын
So am i right in saying they are very similar in terms of damage and penetration? I was looking for more of a .357 mag vs 9mm end result i guess. Makes me feel better about my 9 though. Lol
@TO6517 жыл бұрын
TJ Jones The 9mm out performs the .38, the powder used in a .38 is crap compared to the powder in the 9mm. However the beauty of buying a .357 MAGNUM revolver is it shoots both .38 and .357 which is nice because .38 is cheap and fun to shoot.

Owns a Ruger and buys ammunition from Wal-Mart. Also has no idea how to do a scientific test, saying he cannot find anything other than 115grain for the 9mm is a load of BS. If you didn't go to the worst possible shop with the smallest selection of ammo maybe you could have found some 124 or 135grain 9mm. And don't even get me started on the barrel lengths. About as inaccurate of a test as you could possibly do.
@johnryan66583 жыл бұрын
As unfair as the test was, it was still very telling. Even comparing a subcompact 9mm vs a full size .38, the 9mm still won.
