Bullets were different weights - 115, 180 and two 158 grain. Also, there were other differences - fully vs semijacketed. Further testing, especially with bullets that more closely match up, would be quite interesting.

It would have made the video better to show the back of the plate. Mentioning the distance would be helpful too. Otherwise, the video has a lot of good information.
@johnl.51173 жыл бұрын
This hints that in a pinch, that thickness of what is probably a relatively soft, mild steel will give one a reasonable chance of cover from most pistol rounds rather than just concealment. If angled and not almost square on to the shooter, the steel would deflect a round much more effectively. That's an "angle" to remember in most urban settings where steel of different thickness and layers are around. I wonder what calibers the 2 sides of a steel mail box would deflect?

Perhaps this may depend on the type of steel used? Mild steels/low carbon steels without alloying with other metals like manganese would be substantially weaker than say common spring steels like 1070 (by American standards) given the same type of heat treatments

If the 40s&w had a cone shaped nose like 9mm usualy does, I bet it would have punched thru .. but 40 has a flat face and most likely dumps most of it's energy at impact ..
@davidh96593 жыл бұрын
With pistol calibers, 'penetration mechanics' comes down to pushing out a more or less caliber sized plug from the sheet metal. I'd be hesitant to say things like round nose is better suited for that purpose.
