that plexiglass sheet was acrylic, not polycarbonate. I've shot polycarbonate quite a lot, and a 9mm only causes little dents. Only big rifle cardridges could punch a hole trough, though it still would not shatter. Bear in mind though that polycarbonate has a tendency to trow bullets back at you, so always shoot it at an angle

i think the glass is the wrong way around. the thick plastic should be on the back side and to me it looks like you have it on the front. this will make a huge difference to the performance of 'bulletproof' glass. thanks for the videos, i really enjoy your channel! 🖒

I install glass for a living and occasionally do bulletproof and yes it is backwards. I would redo this video or at least just retest
@unlokia7 жыл бұрын
Exactly, because the flexible, stretchy accomodating plastic is like the "safety net" which absorbs the shock and dampens it (I'm at a loss for word with the proper terminology, sorry!)

When you are shooting something like this, tilt it slightly downwards so it doesn't ricochet back at you and instead goes down into the ground. It only needs a slight angle.

Plus, a polycarbonate that is 3/4 inch or more is considered bullet proof. Matter fact, it will stop a 12 ga. Slug
@Bob5mith6 жыл бұрын
Except for sabot and specialty slugs, shotgun slugs are not very good penetrators. Plain old foster slugs are made of soft lead, have a low sectional density, and aren't much faster than most magnum revolvers.
@barrybowen52624 жыл бұрын
Any BR rated Pilycarbonate (starting at 3/4” thick, he had 1.25” which would be a Level V protection) is always a laminated product. It does have a strong blue edge color. It surprisingly is a laminated mix of 1/2” Polycarb, 1/16” Acrylic & 1/8” Polycarb) and yes he did have 1.25” thick BR rated Acrylic. That is a solidly casted resin. No where near as strong as the Laminated BR Pikycarbonate.

Dude that's not polycarbonate. Polycarbonate doesn't fracture like that when it's shot. It alway puts nice round punctures when bullets hit it because how soft it is. I'm pretty sure that's acrylic. Also polycarbonate on the sides that it's cut on would have a more purplish-blue look to it as apposed to acrylic which looks the way that this stuff does.

@semperfi62884 жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure that's polycarbonate. It honestly looks like plain plexiglas. Polycarbonate is incredibly tough stuff as in it's even hard to cut or drill.
@lloydroberts80552 жыл бұрын
not hard to cut ir drill at all & you can go right through it with a drywall screw.... Now plex you have to drill as it will most likely shatter without the pilot hole... I worked as a glazier and happen to know a lil bit about the materials.... That said you can take a 1/4 inch thick by 1 inch wide strip long enough to bend in half & stomp on without breaking it lol you have to keep working it back & forth like a thin piece of metal before it will break

I observed two errors. The first is that the plates were not held firmly and that could make them absorb more impact, while in windows is fixed. The second is that the armored glass sometimes has a front and a rear, the front is to absorb the impact and the back is not to allow it to pass through

@lloydroberts80552 жыл бұрын
Thin side out should be a spal shield... Also of note is that there are levels of protection just like body armor Last note is that all those layers are not glass. Some layers are actually polycarbonate... I suspect that was either level 3 or 4 he was shooting from the looks of it As far as military use I would hope its level 8
