People don't realize how difficult it is to put together a show like this. The non stop musical arrangements with the breaks and changes, the staging, choreography, lighting, and of course memorizing the music and performing. This was an Epic feat!

That's what gets me. 36 years ago he did this. Not just once either. No special effects, that band were at their peak at just the right time. All the preparation and meticulous arrangements - by everyone. Nothing has or will ever come close to this, imho.

The choreography alone. Prince was known to be very militant about his live shows. Even in early years. He wasn't mean. The man was a perfectionist. After The Revolution broke up, Prince would fine his performers thousands of dollars for hitting wrong notes. He didn't put up with bad sound engineering either. Prince's albums are one thing. His live shows were spiritual experiences.

saw this tour 4 times. Was at this show in Dortmund the day prior. identical only difference he didn't adress us as "Europe". Had to see the round show in an arena, there were no bad seats and the sound was incredible. Its a shame this was never rereleased on DVD/Blu Ray. I still have the double VHS tapes though. Turned me from a fan into a maniac, collecting bootlegs and so on.... without a doubt the best performer of my lifetime. Miss him every day

True, even though I don't think Mozart was a virtuoso multi instrumentalist, I think he just played the piano (like most of the big classical composers). Before anyone rips my head off, I'm not saying Prince was better than Mozart, I was just saying what I said. I will add though that IMO, Prince is the only modern day (last 200 years) musician that you can put in the same sentence as Mozart and Beethoven. Different genres for sure but same level of genius. And this is coming from someone who loves baroque period classical music.

Still can't believe I was there in '88. It kinda turned my world upside down.. an incredible experience. I've never been to another concert that matched it, there was like a certain magic to it.

I too was there and in Frankfurt I was invited to after show party but didn’t go I was too afraid to maybe be disappointed that he would be arrogant, and I loved his music so much. Today his keyboard player is playing on my new Single out late 2024. I feel blessed. Since I never got to work with Prince. I also was front row at sign o times show in Frankfurt. ❤

I saw this tour in london in 88. Simply astonishing. Same venue in 85/86 on the Parade tour with the revolution. Sting got up and played bass on a song and Ronnie Wood joined him onstage too. George Michael was in the audience. Completely surreal.

The quality of musicianship and performance is stunning. The energy levels are through the roof. And he probably had the band perform for another 3 or 4 hours at the aftershow. Nobody put on a show like Prince.

I can never understand how people can compare Prince with Michael Jackson. Prince is fine wine, fine dining sexy and amazingly talented. MJ was just a lip syncing monkey who couldn´t hit a note, or play an instrument.

For me it still is Sign "O" the Times, warmer and even more pumped, though I have to admit that his music 🎶 range was a bit broader here. Why has this never been released on DVD/Blu Ray. Prince was on top form at this time of his career and it is possibly my favourite concert tour, and I've seen him on all major tours since 1986's Parade tour in London's Wembley Arena right through to 21 nights in London. I just hope that the Prince Estate get round to releasing it soon. Until then I shall continue to watch on here. Thanks for sharing. 💜💜

I'm not sure the Prince Estate has the rights. This was RAI and IDTV, a Dutch company that transmitted it to Europe. The director was Egbert van Rees. Prince received 2 million for the rights to broadcast. Allegedly.

I worked in a club back then and on slow nights the DJ would roll down the projector screen and play this VHS. We would all sit in awe. I had the privilege a few years later to see him live in Marbella, Spain. I was "this" close to going up on stage but my GF was to shy and the stage bouncer policy was girls alone or girls with BF, we didn´t last long after that. I´ll never forgive her.

I was there in Dortmund!!! I miss Prince he was absolutely amazing 😔 Backstory: This show was added at the end of the European tour to make up for some cancelled shows in The Netherlands, no venues there were available, so the nearest they could get was Dortmund/Germany. The majority of tickets went on sale in The Netherlands, 1 block was reserved for tickets sold in Germany. Before the show the Mexican wave was going round and would stop every time it got to the section with German ticket holders, you can imagine all the Dutch would laugh at them. There was just such an electric atmosphere which is captured really well in the recording of it. It was one of the best Prince shows I've ever seen; Prince had the audience in the palm of his hand; if he'd told us to stand on our heads we would have done it!

I've seen Prince and his band in Melbourne ~ late1980's live with my girlfriend! I have a greatest collection CD. I am so glad my gut instinct says to me Prince or later on in the 1980s he wanted to be a little bit anonymous, how he died or passed away nobody really knows, it's a mystery, and he certainly didn't expect at that age, he was not a stupid man! I really like Sheila E ( a beautiful Woman) I hope she got his estate because he left no Will? I am a fan!

@@australianhorseracingtips Yes Correct it was 91 or 92 Tour! I also remember picking The Melbourne Cup Winner at the track in was it 90 or 91? I was there too first and only time, Kingston Rule he was, only had a short career, hurt it's leg and retired, bred from Kingston Town (Sire) and USA Secretariat (Mare) a Champion that's why I picked it 5 to 1 put $50 bucks on it and collected $200! I gave the money to my Girlfriend at the time, maybe that's how she got the money to buy the Prince Concert Tickets? Who really knows hows some Women think, but she was wonderful. It's the end result that is important and today for quite quite a while, many year's intact ' I live by a motto that if you gamble with money you gamble with life'! August 1988, visited the same concert in Holland, Rotterdam, "de Kuip" which was my first concert ever, i was 14 years old, and not that very happy cause my grandma died in march, tough time for me as a child, so i needed somthing good! I'll never forget this, this was awesome. I remember the moment it got dark, lights went out, and a purple glow was rising in the stadiom, Purple Rain is what followed...the best concert i have ever visited, from that moment i visited most every of your concerts in Holland. Thomas what an amazing experience that must have been. I have always thought that music in West Germany ( at the time) must have been a very powerful reminder that the West offered so many more expressions of the human experience than the East ( East Germany, Soviet Bloc example, ) I am an American and am currently watching the Duetchland series, 83,86 89 and find them fascinating. As an aside these concerts from the 80s in Dortmund are some of the best concerts on KZbin. Cheers

I think this is the very first live broadcast of the show, some of the shots were changed when it was shown again the following day. For example at 5:00 they miss the beginning of his splits whereas it was fully shown the next day. Been watching this concert regularly since I first saw it on tv back in 1988 and recorded it on VHS. It made me a hardcore fan and I spent the next year or so buying all of his albums and hearing the studio versions of these tracks. Went on to see him in concert probably 25 times plus a few aftershows. What a genius he was. RIP great man.
