I’ll never forget when Scratch magazine interviewed 9th and pressed him a little about his use of Fruity Loops (which then was still considered a novice software) and asked if he was going to upgrade his equipment or purchase new gear since he found success in the music industry… He just goes, “If I’m sinking threes in Chuck Taylors, why do I need to run out and buy Jordan’s?” Legend. As someone who started making beats on Fruity Loops in the late 90's it's crazy to see how much of modern rap is produced with FL. It really did sound like ass back then though, super robotic. I was like 17, we all really WANTED MPC's but they always felt so out of reach money wise. I own a few now and have a lot of respect for what young beat makers can do with FL but I still think the MPC 3000 and even the 2000xl sound better.
