My first new car was an 83 CJ7. In 91 I purchased and restored a 1941 Willys slat grill, which I still own today. A few years ago I also bought and restored a 73 VW Thing. These are my 3 favorite cars.

Awsome video. I do not own a Jeep but I own the wwii jeep's bigger brother the GMC CCKW 353. Mine belonged to 3rd armored division 45th medical battalion. After the war it came to Norway and was an army car here from the 50's to the 90's. I got my hands on her in 2019. She is now under restoration to be back to her glory with the original markings but with new paint.

Wow - that sounds incredible! What a fantastic restoration project. Please keep us informed and when it's finished we'll figure out a way to do a feature on it. That is story that needs to be shared!

My wife always wanted a jeep so for our 30th wedding anniversary I bought her a 2003 TJ wrangler sport. 4.0, 5 speed soft top. 3:73 rear end pos track. That little shit will go almost everywhere. I always had 4x4 trucks. Old and new Chevys and old fords. I waited to long to own a Jeep. Kick my self in the ass. I’m gonna give a 3” suspension lift and a locker in the front axle. Our granddaughter calls my wife Mimi so we’ll have to name the jeep after the mods. Mimi’s little bad ass.

This is a great video and I think the picture at 6:56 says is all. The old saying that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery is evidenced by the Toyota FJ-40 since it was based on the Jeep. My dad had a BJ-40, the diesel version of the FJ, when we lived in Panama and it is arguably every bit as good as a Jeep too! Do you know where I can get a copy of the picture at 11:40?

My first Jeep was a Willys 1956 CJ-5. I bought it from an old man who was a caretaker in a small cemetery. He bought it new and it never saw the pavement. He used it strictly in the cemetery. As with most vehicles I sold it two years later. When I got out of the Army in '74 I purchased a '74 CJ-5. 232 CI 6 cylinder. That turned out to be a real dog. Soon after I sold it and found a 1973 CJ-5 with the 304 CI V-8. That thing had plenty power to spare. Two years later it was stolen. I never saw it again. Oh well . Then I moved on to a 1969 International Harvester Scout 800 A with a V-8. It was okay but I dearly missed my little CJ's.

@@IfThisCarCouldTalk Online sources claim that Willys said the 134 cubic inch Go Devil weighed 365 pounds dry. Sounds about right. A modern iron V8 weighs about 575. Just the crankshaft for the Go Devil weighs more than 31 pounds.

why does he get it right that GPW is Gov 80 INCH willys design , then say GP means general purpose ..... no it never did
@IfThisCarCouldTalk
@IfThisCarCouldTalk 3 жыл бұрын
When we write a script, we can only rely on currently available information. Many times, more than one source is cited/used and if we added the GP reference then it was found on what we consider a reliable source. If we make a mistake, we are happy to have someone correct it while also stated their source. Hope you enjoyed the whole video anyway. Thanks for the comment. Here is one of our sources - from Wikipedia stating "Many explanations of the origin of the word jeep have proven difficult to verify. The most widely held theory is that the military designation GP (for Government Purposes or General Purpose) was slurred into the word Jeep in the same way that the contemporary HMMWV (for High-Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle) has become known as the Humvee. Joe Frazer, Willys-Overland President from 1939 to 1944, claimed to have coined the word jeep by slurring the initials G.P. "
