In the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe there's a famous exchange between Mr. Beaver, Lucy Pevensie, Susan Pevensie and Mrs. Beaver. When Susan asks if Aslan the Lion is safe, Mr. Beaver responds:
"Safe?" said Mr Beaver ..."Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you.”
Aslan the Lion is the most dangerous creature in all of Narnia. And that's good. Because HE is good--and he's the king.
What does it mean that Aslan isn't safe? How can he be dangerous and good at the same time? Find out in this video.

My favorite Aslan quote is from the Horse and His Boy regarding all of this, ″‘I was the lion ... I was the lion who forced you to join with Aravis. I was the cat who comforted you among the houses of the dead. I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept. I was the lion who gave the Horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you should reach King Lune in time. And I was the lion you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you.‘” It gives me so many emotions knowing Aslan is C.S. Lewis's representation of Jesus.

“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. I like how he's depicted as more wild and raw nature-esque in these books and illustrations, i feel it gives more mystery and a fear of god on why he does what he does even if they are always assuredly for good. Its kind of like how living life works. The movie portrays him as a bit too gentle and sentient in my opinion.

Remembering that Aslan is meant to represent Jesus, it's fitting not to consider him safe-at least not as a kitten is safe. He's a king and warrior-not a savage or a butcher, yet not a milksop or weakling- and his capacity for violence is part of why he's such a good friend to have. After all, the capacity for violence is not inherently evil, yet it should be directed against evil.

From: "The Horse and His Boy", the book set during the reign of High King Peter, King Edmund, Queen Susan and Queen Lucy - the Golden Years of Narnia... "I do not call you unfortunate," said the Large Voice. "Don't you think it was bad luck to meet so many lions?" said Shasta. "There was only one lion," said the Voice. "What on earth do you mean? I've just told you there were at least two the first night, and - " "There was only one: but he was swift of foot." "How do you know?" "I was the lion." And as Shasta gaped with open mouth and said nothing, the Voice continued. "I was the lion who forced you to join with Aravis. I was the cat who comforted you among the houses of the dead. I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept. I was the lion who gave the Horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you should reach King Lune in time. And I was the lion you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you." "Then it was you who wounded Aravis?" "It was I." "But what for?" "Child," said the Voice, "I am telling you your story, not hers. I tell no-one any story but his own." "Who are you?" asked Shasta. "Myself," said the Voice, very deep and low so that the earth shook: and again "Myself," loud and clear and gay: and then the third time "Myself," whispered so softly you could hardly hear it, and yet it seemed to come from all round you as if the leaves rustled with it. Shasta was no longer afraid that the Voice belonged to something that would eat him, nor that it was the voice of a ghost. But a new and different sort of trembling came over him. Yet he felt glad too.

not even then, Just look at real life, when a person becomes a Christian, just as the children became Friends of Narnia, we are taken from the known, the painful yet comfortable life of sin and despair into a world filled with trials and tribulations, be it through schoolyard alienation or torture and martyrdom in a hostile place. Jesus is Good. BUT all will never be safe after meeting Him. He is our Strong Tower and we are forever His, but the world is fallen and the world hates us just as it did Him. and not only do we face dangers because of THAT, but as CS Lewis so eloquently put it, we face danger from Jesus Himself, through lessons, through renewal, and through the battles we face in His Name.

Great Video! I love how Lewis wove this into the character and the story. Aslan continues to be a great mirror and metaphor for God and the way Aslan teaches the children in the stories, provides great parallels for a Christain's life. God calls us into a life that can be filled with danger and suffering (in fact Jesus tells us we WILL have trials and suffer) and it's often hard to see why and to be angry and confused when you're in the middle of it, but he's working for your and his good and after those times of trial and danger you find that you have grown and can see the good that has been done. Eustance's painful transformation from a dragon back to a boy (which he is unable to do on his own) is a great example of this and in the story, he is a far better person after this experience than he was before it.

My favorite quote about Aslan is from The Magician's Nephew. Digory has just spent the entirety of his time in Narnia seemingly 'running errands' for Aslan, hoping that this magical land would be able to help his mother's sickness, as she was very ill back in his world. When Aslan is busy giving orders to the talking creatures, Digory approaches him: “But please, please - won't you - can't you give me something that will cure Mother?' Up till then he had been looking at the Lion's great feet and the huge claws on them; now, in his despair, he looked up at its face. What he saw surprised him as much as anything in his whole life. For the tawny face was bent down near his own and (wonder of wonders) great shining tears stood in the Lion's eyes. They were such big, bright tears compared with Digory's own that for a moment he felt as if the Lion must really be sorrier about his Mother than he was himself. 'My son, my son,' said Aslan. 'I know. Grief is great.” *The reason I love this quote so much is because it shows Aslan's empathy-Jesus's empathy and love for us. That He knows and understands our deepest pains and sorrows, and that He understands them even deeper than we ourselves know. Before a word is even spoken, He knows. And when we speak to Him about our sorrows, He loves us even more for it. I know C.S. Lewis had a hard time in his childhood since his mother died at a young age. I, too, experienced a sorrow and fear as my mother dealt with health issues all throughout my childhood and adolescence, so this struggle of the author and character spoke to me. Fortunately God's plan was not for my mother to pass, but I don't worry anymore because I know once she does she will most certainly be with Jesus and have not a single health concern to worry about. :)

I mean even in the Bible things merely touched by God or Jesus can be dangerous like when Moses asks to see God's face and God in no uncertain terms tells him that if He did as he asks, he would be dead but would show him His back and even that left Moses's face glowing unable to look at for a few weeks at least.

When I watched the Chronicles of Narnia as a kid, I felt a strong connection with the story. I didn't know what it meant, but I knew that I was somehow connected to it, I would get chills when I heard Aslan speak. Although he was huge and intimidating lion. He also seemed to possess this loving and caring nature. So Although you look at him with fear and trembling. But you also admire him and feel safe and loved by him. Later on in life. I discovered that this was written to explain the Gospel from a different perspective. Now I understand why I felt connected with it. It's a story of redemption. The story of the mighty savior. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia so much after I discovered them when I was about fourteen. I loved Aslan, who was kind and good, the true king of beasts who also protected little children like the Pevensies. Seeing this video and the one before it about the Life of Aslan helped take the bad taste from my mouth after reading Neil Gaiman's graphic novel "The Problem With Susan, and other stories." I should have known better than to expect a horror writer like Gaiman to write anything positive about a beloved childhood classic, especially after the graphic novel he wrote about Snow White being a vampire, who fed on her own father and had her stepmother burned to death. Gaiman gave Aslan anthropomorphic qualities and showed him and the White Witch turning on the Pevensie children and killing them, after which the man-lion and the witch have sex. Seeing Aslan devour Lucy and Susan (we don't see what the witch does to their brothers), leaving only one of Susan's hands and her head, with its wide open eyes watching him and the witch fornicate, is sickening. I'll never be able to read Neil Gaiman again, despite having enjoyed his books in the past. As for "The Problem With Susan", I'll do my best to put it out of my mind as soon as possible. I'll have to read all the Chronicles of Narnia again to restore my faith in Aslan.

I have a theory about the Stable from The Last Battle: I believe it is either the location of where the Garden of Youth used to be or where the creation of Narnia began with Aslan. I don’t know where the Stable is so I could be wrong but it’s a compelling theory... It would really emphasize how far Narnia has fallen since its Creation...the idea that the descendants of the silver apples that once kept Jadis away were eventually chopped down and built into a Stable...in Narnia...with talking animals😔

Just discovered your channel, i love your content and i'd love to learn more about this world. I also want to share a story with you, maybe you already know it I'm an archaeology student, while studying about bronze age Hyttites in Anatolia i learned that the ruins one of their ancient cities has been named by locals as "AslanTepe", meaning "Hill of lions", because two great statues of lions have been preserved by time in front of what was once one of the city's gate. Remembering the name of Aslan and the fact that he is a lion (duh), i did some research and apparently Lewis used to take inspiration from foreign languages for names, expecially turkish. Fun fact: the sweets that Jadis gives to Edmund, the lokums, are tipical of Turkey and were popular in England a while ago (maybe they still are idk i'm italian). Can't wait for the next vid, keep up the good work!

4:16 Im currently reading the series to my 3, 5 and 6 year olds and we're in The Horse and His Boy. It's funny because that book is a little more boring when compared to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and others - but all the sudden there is that impactful moment and I could barely get through it. I am not a crier and it takes a lot to move me to tears but that moment when Shasta had gone through all of these coming-of-age turmoils and then was trying to find his way through the fog to the castle and suddenly he's aware of a presence next to him. Then *SPOILER ALERT* as he begins talking to it, he realizes it's Aslan and it just sent CHILLS down my spine and was sitting there trying to read it and I just about to break down into a blubbering mess because it is SUCH a fantastic parallel to Jesus and how He is there throughout our lives and hard times and even though we wonder why He won't just take our troubles away, He is actually guiding us into circumstances for reasons we can't understand until it's all over! GAH!!! If you haven't read these - go to a quiet place and DO IT!

Great presentation! Aslan the character is based on Jesus Christ. The correct assertion that Jesus is "not safe but He is good" was one more reason why CS Lewis was a genius. People now are turning to dangerous spiritual activities perhaps because they have not met the "unsafe" Jesus. They thirst for a dangerous thrill. They have not heard the roar of the Lion of Judah yet... perhaps if they would ask Him for the "wardrobe" to be opened, they would face Him in all His mighty splendor. Unsafe yet Good.

The beginning of this year me and my mum were reading the book of Job and talking about all sorts of creatures God created and how He said to Job that the greatest of them all is Behemoth - the creature so big and scary it can kill a human being instantly. Mum was asking why did God create such a creature, that it shows how God is dangerous. And as I was listening to that and thinking I realized - YES! God is dangerous, the most dangerous. But oh, what a Joy it is to be loved and cared for from this dangerous God! That He is good. Narnia has helped me many times through my life in understanding Gods character. C.S.Lewis was a genius! @@wesltall1 The BBC really did do what Hollywood did not manage: adapt the actual stories from the books into movies. The BBC's script sounds like it was taken directly from Lewis himself. Disney didn't manage to make The Silver Chair? True, but no big loss as I don't think they would have been capable. As far as I'm concerned, They also didn't manage to make The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe; The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader; and I'm assuming Prince Caspian. I never watched Prince Caspian because I gave up on the whole thing after that first movie. I only watched Dawn Treader because we happened to catch it on TV. I can overlook some low budget effects if the script is compelling. But, a bad script is like fingernails on a chalk board regardless of the special effects. What a waste since they got Tilda Swinton and Liam Neeson who are both fantastic actors. The children were all well cast too.
