"The Games" is a must watch. Series with Clarke & Dawe sending up the Sydney 2000 olympic games planning committee. Priceless!!

I totally forgot about that. He must watch considering how much he likes Roy and HG.

When John Clarke passed away there was no one who could really replace the fast, super dry back and forth battle of wits Clarke and Dawe could do.
@stevemurrell61678 ай бұрын
Possibly Shaun Micallef....but Clarke is pretty much irreplaceable yes.

There's a classic Australian (Melbourne) film called Death in Brunswick, you must see it. A black comedy with John Clarke and Sam Neill. My brother ran into John on the street not long before he tragically passed, he was about to take a photo of the scenery, wherever they were. My brother's a bit cheeky and said, hang on a sec, I can make this photo even better, as he walked by. It got a smile out of John, got to be happy about that, polite or not.

These were great. There used to be one on every week on TV, covering some main Australian issue that was going on. For people outside of Australia it's probably hard to understand the context of some of these as a result of pertaining to Australian events, though I suppose some things transcend time and country (like useless governments lol).

For a long while, there was a shifty cabinet minister called Peter Reith, who sounded very much ;like John Clarke, and on the radio, sometimes it took a minute to work out which one I was listening to. It was a politician sounding like a comedian who satirisises politicians.

I'd love to force the politicians to all watch videos like this for an entire day whilst Parliament is sitting, so that they're all present, until they finally listen to what the people are voicing. Surely they are aware that we are not happy about their lack of action - on all sides and need to be tortured into getting a grip on reality by watching comedy skits about themselves. There would be many red faces in the various Houses. These guys are just brilliant and how they keep a straight face is beyond me.🇦🇺

Tony Abbot was one of Australia's worst Prime Ministers. He ran on a policy of not cutting public services, respecting the Public Broadcaster and so on. His first budget then aimed to make massive cuts to public services the Public Broadcaster and so forth. His treasurer and finance minister were photographed after the budget smoking huge cigars celebrating what they had done. The photo looked like a Marxist parody of plutocrats. The budget failed to pass the upper house. Abbot then continued to so strangely bizarre things such as brining back Knighthoods and then giving one to Prince Phillip. Abbots press conferences involved him appearing in front of Australian flags. As time went on the number of flags keep on increasing till it looked like a forest behind him. He was removed from Government by a fellow Liberal Malcom Turnbull who by comparison was a highly intelligent and articulate person. However Turnbull was later removed and replaced by another person Scott Morrison who was possibly the worst regarded Australian Prime Minister. The ABC the Australian Public Broadcaster did a three part series of the time period it was called Nemesis. To a person outside Australia who did not know the politicians it would appear a bit impenetrable. But to any Australian knowing who was involved it is one the funniest and bizarre documentaries produced

I know this will set the cat amongst the pigeons but Abbott was a better PM than any we have had since. A conservative leader who thought we should not let world organizations interfere with the running of our country. He tried to fix the indigenous issue by sending his ministers out to remote areas to see for themselves what the problems were. He also wanted to put the brakes on climate crisis alarmist talk, his party asked the leading climate expert to tell them exactly what it would take to fix the issue. The expert came back and said it could not be fixed by man, the climate was going to do what the climate does. Abbott was set upon by all the activists and opposition who convinced people he was everything he was not. He actually was everything we once admired in a person, volunteer fireman in his community, tri-athelete, Christian faith, Family man. We have since seen how an honest, athletic, clean living family man with christian values is now seen as an 'evil' person. We could really use him now. This country is in such a mess.
