Some parents love them, others loathe them, but playdates are a part of modern family life and speak volumes about who we are, where we live, how we parent and how we differ from each other.
Catholic Brendan lives in a semi with his mum and 3 siblings. Twins Tom and Billy live in a large detached house with their lawyer parents. Tom has Down syndrome and has never gone a playdate before. Yasmin’s family live in a small rented end of terrace house and are Nigerian Muslims and call themselves ‘Afro-Brummies’.

I only laughed because if he’s popular my kids must be famous. They actually hate it sometimes that everyone wants to hang with them. My youngest said, “ it’s hard when i get picked to choose teams, don’t know who to choose and don’t want anyone to be upset. It’s so hard being popular” all I could do is laugh because I’m like, “ Shoot that’s your problem, that’s why your upset” 😂😂😂

For people saying Brandon was being mean to Tom while playing hide and seek, this is what I saw happen in this video. Brandon hid with the knowledge that Yasmin was the seeker. Instead Tom came which could give away his hiding spot (he didn’t know Tom was actually helping her seek). Brandon tried to understand why Tom was ruining his hiding but could only pick out words that sounded like “leave me alone”. Brandon was probably upset because he thought Tom was trying to make things difficult for him and Tom was probably upset for a similar reason. And I think they both recognized there was a communication issue but didn’t know how to process it at that time. There was no bad intent on either side, just kids learning how to get along with each other and they were both very sweet.

@@ijustneedmyself i thought about that too, and its hard to say, but i actually think they would have been okay with it. as someone who grew up atheist and had to think really hard about how i answered that question in my own life, ive now realised i probably did not have to say yes as many times as i did. its just very confusing and scary to them i think. they ask that because its reassuring to know that other person believes in god, but not necisarily because they are looking to judge you if you dont, they might be scared if you dont, but after i said no to the question more and more i realized people just need a minute to adjust to the idea of that, but after talking they normally realize its not a big deal or they are fine with it in the first place. Some people are rude about it, but its normally out of fear. it really rocks their whole world and they dont want to have to think about how someone could live without believing in god. i can see how that would be scary if thats all you ever knew, especially as a kid. but if you dont force the topic normally they will leave it to and move on.

“I hate that guy. He’s a mean, grumpy racist” 30 seconds later… “If I ruled the country, the first thing I would do is get loads of slaves.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 PRICELESS!!!! But the truth is, kids are all so innocent. The majority of things they say are just them reflecting things they’ve heard or seen. But they were all precious. Even the small bits of tension, it’s really the whole point of why the parents had them do this experience in the first place…to put themselves outside of their own lives. To understand others. So other than having to excuse them for any political opinions (seeing as how most 9 year olds don’t have a firm grasp on world politics), they were all very precious, very sweet in their own ways. I enjoyed watching. Kudos to their parents for letting them be involved in these play dates.

@@mumtas4469 okay so even you are saying one is true and the others are not true. The Bible claims to be the Inspired word of God. This is a truth claim. The Quran claims that the Bible is changed and cannot be trusted, this is a truth claim. Both truth claims contradict each other so they can’t both be true. There are many many contradictory truth claims in Islam and Christianity so my point is this little girl isn’t right. We don’t “believe the same things in different ways” We believe completely contradictory things(Christians and Muslims) so following the laws of logic, both are wrong or one is right but both cannot be right as truth will never contradict truth. I’m a Christian so I believe the Bible, the gospel, Jesus Christ as God incarnate, and I respect Muslims and love them but I still believe Islam is a false religion because it contradicts what I believe is truth. I'm shocked at the comments below, so many grown-ups are judgemental toward Brandan, a child. What's wrong with people? He was the most interesting, open-minded, honest, and sweet kid. So sensitive that he felt nervous both before and after the playdate, and even had stomach pain from it. Because he is so empathic he almost jumped when he heard Tom crying and ran there. He was the only child who ran to him to ask what happened even after they misunderstood each other. It blows my mind how cruel, ruthless, and judgmental people are to a child, calling him "low IQ". etc - those people are definitely dumb and ill-bred. Brendan is so much better than they are. Also, I don't know if anyone else noticed but the twins' lawyer dad was irritated with Brendan throughout the visit. First, he got annoyed when Brendan asked for an orange. Then, when he cried after his interaction with Tom because it implied that his precious kid has done something wrong. He spoke so fast asking Tom what happened that I thought I accidentally clicked fast forward or that he is a really neurotic guy with a strange way of speaking but at the end of the video he was speaking just fine. So he was pissed at Brendan but tried to act cool in front of the camera. How angry should you be to speak at 2x speed? Later, when Brendan tripped at the table and asked who left the skateboard there (Billy was riding it), the dad immediately blamed Brendan in a mocking tone - "It was you! As it turns out... ha-ha" I very much disliked the dad. We all feel protective with our kids but I really can't stand parents who only treat their own as rare precious gems and have no sympathy or kindness for other children. I met quite a few parents like that. I don't care for this kind at all.

somewhat true, but yasmins house while small, was full of love and laughter and while yes she had to share a room with her brothers and they didnt have lots of toys, you could see they played alot of games that didnt require things and I bet she will look back later on to the nights her and her brothers whispered in their beds and giggled at each other, and the close quarters will not be remembered solely as a negative but as closeness. Not me crying throughout this entire show! Happy tears! All of these children are literally outstanding beings already. Yasmin's family and that playdate was so beautiful and thoughful! As an african muslim born and raised in an english country I can understand yasmins struggles entirely as a child steuggling with her home identity and what the world sees her as. She was so young during and could not comprehend grown concepts yet she is so smart. When she said she was having a hard time getting bullied then she prayed and it stopped. Another point when brendon said he was shocked she said she was muslim... being black and muslim as a child often shocked people becuase the assumption that most black folks are christian is real. So much beauty in programs like this. I wish covid was not around right now id love to do this for my daughter and have her make new friends she otherwise would not.

@@toshamac4676 no that kid had anxiety and he’s pretty sensitive. I was like that as a kid and I’ve known other people like that as well. People are more aware of it now bc him crying at the end and being upset that it’s over is he’s just thinking a lot. I used to get pre-sad about things and again I have a friend who did the same thing. The fact that his mom, sorry mum, is able to talk w him about is a great thing. I was born in 82 and also have both parents who were psych nurses but they just weren’t as aware then even w everything my parents did know. We know so much more about how to help kids like this or any kid really w various mental or physical issues. There is so much more info out there.I think his mother is doing a very very good job about talking about it w him and helping him talk thru it bc kids have trouble putting words to feelings. Plus she makes him go out with his stomachs aches (which is anxiety). And the legos, lol, even his mom gave him a crazy look about his legos. I think all these parents did a great job. And they want their kids to grow up tolerant and they can’t if they don’t get out of their own bubbles.
