My friends have big families (although not quite this big) and they budget a lot. They only buy necessary items and buy things in bulk. They almost exclusively buy things second hand and within the community of large families they get lots of hand me downs passed around. The older kids also babysit and do other jobs to earn their own money. One of the families also have a business finding, sorting, and selling figurines which allows them to go on vacations to Europe and Hawaii. One of the other families flies exclusively on standby. EllyinAdelaide, nobody is saying parents are servants. What can you do when you have so many siblings? Your childhood gets stolen. I can tell you, embarrassingly, that I know first hand what happens when you do everything for your kids. When they grow up, they aren’t as equipped to deal with life on their own , as other ppl their ages are. My son, 26, and my, daughter, 18 in 4 months, were both overprotected, coddled and had everything done for them. Never spoiled materialistically because I’ve never had enough money for that. My son still struggles and he’s now married with 2 kids. My daughter is gonna be equally shell shocked. I did this to them, thinking I was doing the right thing and never let anything happen to them, which includes failing. I just adore both of them with everything I am but if I’m being honest, I’ve done an accidental disservice to them. I’ve been helping them along the way since then but nothing like before. I’m actually helping them grow instead of staying sheltered.

Don't feel bad a lot of parents do this and you are smart enough to realise and admit it so you are already ahead. If your daughter is still at home with you it's not too late to teach her basic meals and food preparation, how to manage money by showing her your own budgeting, how to clean the house and do a load of washing. Explain why and once she has learnt you can get her to plan, budget (based on the amount you already spend oer meal) and cook one dinner a week, she can do her own washing from now on and have specific rooms that she has to clean weekly. Just those things will set her up for success. As for your son it's now his wife's job to train him but you can always be there to advice him and his wife. You had the right intention looking after them so well. Obviously these are just my ideas and you can change it to suit you and your kids. I just wanted to share some of my experience and knowledge not tell you how yo parent. Good luck and don't worry about the past as it's only the future you can change. ❤😊

I guess we're supposed to be impressed by these mothers' total and absolute dedication (addiction?) to their children, but it scares me. Crying and grabbing onto your 25 year old son while he's trying to move out of the house is NOT dedication, it's control-freaky. Showing up at the hospital uninvited to view his girlfriend's ultrasound is more than just rude. It's THEIR baby, perhaps they wanted to attend the ultrasounds by themselves, to revel in watching the baby move around and to talk about how much more life-like it looks each time......................his mother has made it very clear what kind of mother-in-law she is going to be. She will be controlling this baby's life as well as all her own kids. And the mother who cooks Sunday dinner every week in expectation of ALL the kids coming home for it, even filling the plates ahead of time. What kind of guilt trip does that lay on these grown kids? Show up for dinner or forever be the cause of your mother crying her way through the day. Our job as parents is to raise our children to be independent and ready to support their own lives, not to be dependent on us well into adulthood. Home-schooling them in order to shield them from the reality of life isn't helping them to become independent at all. And going clubbing and drinking with your grown daughters just plainly made me laugh out loud - thinking what my two daughters would say if I showed up ready to tag along as they were leaving for an evening out ! I think this video is very sad, despite all the cackling laughter created by this over-involved Mom.

Homeschooling isn't bad. It's actually a hell of a lot better than the indoctrination they get at school. The school curriculum is dumbing down the kids. They can still be living in the real world and not shielded from reality.

And it should give you some joy. You'll have spent 20 or more years raising them, cleaning after them, worrying about them, chauffeuring them all over the place, monitoring and helping with school work...........................etc. You'll be ready for a break, and you'll get a lot of pleasure out of seeing what decent adults they have become and how well you taught them to care for themselves and a home. When my last one left home I think I spent three months doing minimal house cleaning, ordering take-out food too often, and binging on television before I got myself into a decent routine. Now that they have children of their own, I'd love to see them more often but they're in the busiest part of their lives and they're now living with "THEIR" families. It's time for me to stop any expectations I had of how things would be and adapt to how much time they want me around and can afford to spend visiting. I don't say that it's easy to wake up every day to a dead silent house but it's something every parent needs to remind themselves of the day their kids are born. They are NOT there forever. So far mine are in the same City as me, so I remain eternally grateful for that at least !

@2ndhandSue5 жыл бұрын
@@Lesbiana31 - You did the best you could under the circumstances. Your oldest needs to find her way, and that's a very common story these days. No matter how good a parent you are, the fact remains that once kids get into middle school their peers become more important than their families. They can be led down the wrong path by peers very easily and too many parents blame themselves if their child takes a wrong turn. Your other one is graduating University which shows what kind of guidance you gave while she grew up. Obviously the older one had the same environment to grow up in, the same guidance, the same "training" for life. That she has chosen another path right now means that she chose to overlook all that she learned while growing up and follow the more "fun" route that some of her peers were following. She has a good foundation under her and this is hopefully just a phase she has to explore and when she finds out it's a dead end she might be tired of it and suddenly pick up where she left off at home. You can't blame yourself; you have to keep loving her the way you always did, not judge her or abandon her, and she might one day return to her roots. I, too, had a few horror years with my oldest one and I wasn't sure where it was going to end, but when she got tired of the aimless life, doing nothing, watching her sister become a nurse - she finally gave up on her wasted years and came back home to enroll in College. Now, most of those kids she partied with and skipped school with have also straightened themselves up and gone on to get diplomas or degrees, start families. They gave us parents a few years of terror, though, while they were playing Russian Roulette with their lives !

The woman with 12 kids keeps talking about how unconventional being a self sufficient family like their the only ones, and that it's a big deal, just goes to show how little she knows about the world she lives in after all, makes you wonder what she's teaching her kids on a daily. Her older daughter is starving for outside friendships, even The Walton's had interactions with friends. I'm not against what she's doing, just the fact she's filled with negativity and fear that makes her personality a ugly one. She doesn't seem like a happy woman at all.

@@Thisismyaccount82 - Hi, I wasn’t referring to different colored glasses/cups but was referring to different colors of rubber, or elastic, bands. In a very large household, however, my solution (to my own problem) wouldn’t probably work as there’s a limited number of colors of rubber bands in a package.

Outrageous!!!! I had 4 in 5 years and found that quite challenging for addressing individual attention. When my youngest was born with autism an entirely new level of stress came about. Caring for an autistic toddler with selective mutism is the absolute worst challenge to overcome. First you don’t know if the child is a mute then you learn all that’s going on and just grieve as to why your child can’t simply say momma. If you have 10 perfectly healthy low maintenance children then maybe it’s easier. Idk. 10-20 kids seems insane to me. I’ve seen the Radford family, they are pretty huge in America lol that’s a lot of kids! We have pretty big families within religious communities so I think Americans find it interesting that the Radfords are a huge family ( biggest in Britain last I knew ) without a religious background or religious inclination to have a large family. Plus a lot of family ideas in Britain are much different than Americans. No Americans ship kids to boarding schools. It’s not a think in America. Not for little kids anyway. We have military schools for misbehaving boys and we have private lockdown schools for kids who refuse to attend and behave so they state sends them to bad kids school. We don’t punish our good kids by pawning them off to perverts. 🤷🏻♀️
