Before Disney reset the canon there were a ton of Grey Jedi and the Bendu from Rebels in current canon is a personification of the Grey. If Merrin dies Cal probably would go on a rampage and I think the best way to stop him from falling to the darkside is the mirror in Bogano. In JFO he saw himself as inquisitor. This time he would see a jedi for him to realise what monster he became. That way Cal would become a grey jedi.

I think there is a vast difference between Padme/Anakin and Cal/Merrin. Padme was incapable of stopping Anakin's fall to the dark side because she never really understood him to begin with. They were too different, with two very different pasts. Their relationship was very surface level, and almost entirely cloaked in deceit and secrecy, from the council, from the senate, from their closest friends, and lets be honest, even from themselves. They never really knew each other. The ending sequences of Revenge of the Sith bare all of this out over and over again. For Anakin to be deluded enough to really believe that Padme would be at his side to rule the galaxy together and "make things the way we want them to be" shows how little he ever really understood her. The entire concept is completely alien to her and the disbelief at what hes saying shows in her reaction. But the same goes for Padme as well, she really didnt know Anakin. When Obi-Wan tells her that Anakin has turned to the dark side, her first reaction is literally, "No, not Anakin, he couldnt". Well, actually he could, and he did, because as it turns out honey, you dont know your man anywhere as well as you think you do, despite the fact that the signs were always there, but she was incapable of recognizing them. When Anakin slaughtered the sandpeople that were responsible for his mothers death, Padme did what she could for him. She was sympathetic, she tried to comfort him, as best she could. But she did not understand him, and she did not understand how it changed him forever. Padme and Anakin were always destined for tragedy because they never should have been together in the first place. Cal and Merrin are completely different. They know and understand each other on a much deeper level. They are virtually identical to each other in what theyve experienced, what theyve lost, who theyve lost, and the pain they both carry inside. They are a nearly perfect support system for each other. They are stronger together. They each make the other stronger. When Cal is about to murder the imperial base commander(Denvyk? was that his name?), Merrin immediately recognizes the danger in whats going on, because she understands it. Shes been through it as well, and is still going through it. This understanding is why she is able to jump in and talk Cal off the ledge. Had this been Padme and Anakin, she might have held his hand, comforted him, but she could have done nothing to stop it. When Cal and Merrin are making their way to the temple on Tanalorr to confront Bode, it is Cal that stops and has a moment of clarity, realizing that by killing Bode, they are committing his daughter to the same pain and loss that Cal and Merrin have lived through. Merrin, who just a minute earlier had been warning Cal that Bode would fight to the death and they have no choice but to kill him to get the compass back, also stops in her tracks and instantly realizes that Cal is right, because they have that shared understanding. Cal and Merrin bring out the best in each other, while Anakin and Padme only enabled each other. Im not saying they didnt love each other, but it was a dark, secretive and destructive love that only led both of them to their downfall. As long as Cal has Merrin, he will never turn to the dark side. If Merrin dies, then maybe, but somehow I dont think Respawn would do that, because, regardless of whether or not Cal would riot, the fanbase certainly would.

This is very well put and I agree. I'd add that I think Cal has a very different temperament from Anakin. Anakin was always arrogant, overconfident, and rather power hungry. Cal became more sure of himself eventually, but it took some time after order 66. He's far more level-headed and generally good natured than Anakin. Cal talks Cerre down when they encounter Vader in Fallen Order, and he manages to make friends with Merrin after she literally raised the dead and tried to kill him. Anakin never bothered solving any problems without using his lightsaber. Every Jedi has brushes with the dark side, but to really go full Sith, there's a predisposition that needs to be there. Cal doesn't have that, so while he will have his temptations and his struggles, I think he'll be ok. And yes, if Merrin dies, we riot!

Merrin saving cal gives me the hope that cal will never let her go and be with her always since she was the one person to pull him form the darkness cal understands that every Jedi faces the dark side it’s how they deal with it that defines them his love for his friends and more importantly merrin is what drives that passion to be a grey force user, much like Luke in the legend timeline Kinda a reversal of Revan and bastila from a certain point of view Also I’m thinking that cal could be the cannon version of legend Luke skywalker since a lot of the stuff he does almost mirrors him in that way

I think killing Merrin off would be too risky a move for Respawn. Even if they could create a compelling story for Cal around it, which Im sure they could, the backlash over killing off one of the most beloved characters from the games might be more heat than Respawn would be willing to bring down on themselves. We have all seen what happens when Star Wars fans dont get what they want, and Respawn likely has to.

I do feel like the temptations will continue to rise as the stakes rise as well. This game kept presenting temptations; but also evoked a NEED to use the dark side (as in the end, during the beating). One of the hardships for Kal and other survivors is that the Jedi of the Old Republic were so far fallen from what they had set out to be. So, if we accept that the video games mimic the main trilogy in theme (which they kind of do so far), most likely the third game will be about Both finding balance and starting something new.

Kestis is a character that is one that is similar to what many would call "a more rational Anakin Skywalker." Though Cal has dipped his toes in it, he doesn't keep splashing around in it, and eventually drowning in it like Anakin did. He has pursued a path to save all he had cared about, like Anakin, but he was aware of the Dark side when it flared up, not attempt to rationalize his actions and turn a blind eye to it. Say Cal explores the galaxy after many years, he realizes that the Empire has fractured. He reenters the galaxy to the Empire, fractured, and a new Repiblic in its place. He begins hearing of a Jedi bringing balance to the Force by the name Skywalker. Initially thinking it was Anakin, he decides to investigate. When he realizes that it is Luke, he begins to question how long he was truly gone. This gives him a mixed reaction; happy that the Empire is gone (so the galaxy thinks), but sad about all the time he had missed, disappointed that he wasn't part of the downfall of the Empire, that he couldn't save any more Jedi. As he tries to open himself up to the state of the Galaxy, he begins to let himself worry about how Merrin, Kata, Greez, and possibly any biological kid he may have would be affected by the changed galaxy. If he encounters another Dark Side threat, his solo encounters would slowly drive him towards the dark, fearing that he would lose what he had fought to maintain. If he does submit completely, it would be something very deep taken away from him again that would unshackle the emotions he had trained to keep at bay.

While some might argue they can’t see Cal using the dark side narratively, it is clearly where they’re headed gameplay wise. These first two games were about playing a Jedi. And we dipped our toes into the dark side a bit. Next game you’ll retain all of your abilities just like you did in this game, so how will they add more abilities? There’s only so many lightside stuff they can use. They’ll turn Cal to the dark side just so we get to use dark side abilities. It’s truly the last power fantasy we need from this gaming trilogy. @@ahobbyist9520 I’m a little scared of power scaling in the Star Wars universe. Cal seems very strong and this is obviously because we experience his story in video game format. Movie and TV doesn’t have the money to make scenes on the scale of a video game. So it tends to make video game characters look very strong. @@jiffypoo5029 Yes But this depends on the Sith/dark Jedi. They’re driven through their selfishness, but this could be extended. For example they’re selfish because they don’t want to lose their loved ones, so attachment could be seen as selfish. Basically some Sith are selfless because they’re “selfish”. Some will use the dark side to keep the ones they care about from dying (for example darth plagueis) because they care about them because they are in their life, so technically they’re selfless through selfishness. Hard to explain, think anakin and his attachment to padme. He can’t see a world without her, so he’s selfish but it’s also selfless. Get it? Cal would be like this, some Sith don’t care about loved ones, those are the maniacal ones like palpatine who are psychopaths, but most Sith especially in swtor care about their loved ones and use it as a motivation for their power and need

I'd love to see the next game bring in a major character from the movies/TV. There aren't many they could interweave into Cal's story without breaking the lore, but I think they could do it with Darth Maul. It would be a good way to have a darkside arc for Cal (which they seem to be teasing). They both have a personal vendetta against Vader at this point, and him being from Dathomir would add a layer of trust because of his relationship with Merrin (Unless Merrin knows about Maul, but i don't think so because she was kind of ignorant about Jedi/Sith in the first game). Maybe they return to Dathomir for Merrin to retrieve something and run into Maul at the temple

I don't think so, he is a lightsider in the core, actually kind and selfless. It's not the first time he was tempted by darkness, but he quickly returns back to light. We as players may enjoy and have fun in those gameplay sequences, but Cal as a charater always becomes terrified and broken by this power. Also, there is another reason for other jedi to fall. Malicos, Bode, Masana, Trilla too in some maner were adults, when Order was destroyed. And the Order fall for a reason, it was rigid and corrupt organisation with questionable practices, that told it's deciples to suppres very potent and strong emotions, like lust, attachment, love, anger, fear, shame ect. But emotions does not work that way, they become even stronger, if you ignore them. So when Order was gone, all this people had to deal with years of suppresed emotions on their own, which is a potent ground to falling to the dark side. Cal had some issues, but he was a child when it happened, so he had less of this stuff to deal with, and he did it more naturally - through actions and by actually feeling his grief, and fear, and anxiety. It made him more resilient to fully embracing dark side.

I didn't know about that statement from Respawn. That greatly concerns me. I know I'm a sap, but I really hope Cal does NOT turn in the next game and I hope Merrin doesn't die. Aside from that, I think Cal has already started his journey in overcoming the dark side temptation. You see it at the very end of his conflict with Bode. Cal is stuck in a headlock, Kata just got flung like a ragdoll by her own dad, and Merrin is several inches off the ground being choked to death. If there was a moment Cal was gonna snap, it was gonna be here. Cal was powerless, all he could do was watch as bode kills the woman he loves, one of the only few people he has left and probably the only one who truly understands him and what he's been through (because she's been through it too). But instead of giving into temptation to harness the darkside again, instead, he used his wits and training, and managed to wiggle free and save Merrin with his own strength. That was crucial in his journey to overcoming the darkside. He didn't give in when it would have been easiest, he kept his emotions in check, and was smart, relying on training rather than rage.

I want the 3rd part of this sequel to introduce a canon starkiller as cals foe. Make the plot about cals struggle with the dark side and starkillers struggle with the light. Give us a mirror story where the two start off rivals but eventually see they have so much in common that they can use it for good. Give cal one good shot at darth vader. He doesn’t gotta win or lose, just let us have that moment we all wanted the first time we seen vader in fallen order. This series has so much potential but I think starkiller is seriously the foe cal needs to conclude his trilogy

How would introducing Starkiller work though at this point ? like not shooting down your desires I’m just genuinely curious. Only thing that I could think of working is maybe he’s the new Grand Inquisitor, but even then they’d have to explain where he was when all the other inquisitors were out on missions.

A common theme in Star Wars media after the fall of the republic, when it comes to Jedi, is recognizing the failures of the order and growing from them. In legends, Luke got married, had kids, and used traditionally dark side abilities. If the Star Wars story continues, the “new” Jedi order would probably be a lot more progressive. Love, emotion, would be a lot more accepted and that makes total sense for it to be that way.

Fun Theory: "There's a possibility that in the 3rd Sequel of this game, or if it even will get one. That there's a possibility that Cal Kestis will end up becoming Starkiller, probably to replace Galen Marek's Starkiller, and taking it as a sign that there will be no 3rd sequel to Star Wars Force Unleashed III anytime soon. But this is just my fun theory only, I just hope I won't jinx it"

I believe the 3rd game might be a choice driven game maybe. The choices you make might make you go into the light side or embrace the dark side to its full potential. I'm just speculating though, but however. It would turn into a pretty epic story if he turned, it would be sad aswell. But quite a turn. I would've never believe Cal would embrace it even a little bit after the first game. Even I got mad when Bode did what he did and understood Cal completely. It is easy to turn to the dark side when everything you fought for disappears infront of your very eyes. This video sums it up perfectly.

My theory for the third game is that Cal will struggle containing his inner dark side and I think he’ll eventually turn. I think that the premonition of him as an Inquisitor will happen. Or, to satisfy the fandom, I also think that he’ll become Vader’s new apprentice, a new Starkiller. But, I also believe that he will return to the light with help of Kata which I believe she will be a force user and an apprentice to Cal. I think her as a Padawan would be an interesting addition to the third game.

My ideal for a third game would be playing as one of the final inquisitors hunting Cal. First brother or First Sister. Add a character creator and you could pick species etc. would be great to have inquisitor armour customisation. Cal could utilise dark side against you but ultimately sacrifice himself for Merrin and the child. Game ends when Vader executed you as the last inquisitor as the Emperor has declared them no longer required. Have a Vader final boss fight which is just how long can you last before you die.

Cal is dangerously close to falling to the dark side, and he knows it. He's scared, because he doesn't know if he can win the fight with himself. He probably will; I don't think the developers have the guts to make him go down that path fully. But part of me thinks it could be an amazing tragedy.

IMO, Cal is going to be the first Gray Jedi that we get to see. In the third game, he will learn that both the Jedi Order and the Sith are wrong when it comes to understanding the Force. The Dark side is not inherently evil just like the Light is not inherently good, it all depends on the wielder.

To you point of Cere teaching him another way to steer him away from the darkside. I don't believe it's to keep him from the darkside, as it's more a counterpoint to what Jaro taught Cal. And Cal's devotion to honoring him. Jaro in the first game, states many times in a simple way to phrase it "straight ahead all the time!" That's just my opinion of what she was trying to help Cal with.

Whilst I do like your theories I think it is unlikely that Cal will turn to the dark side as he acknowledges that he almost lost himself and admits that he is scared which part of the redeemable path that you said earlier where a Jedi meditates on themselves and try to make moral decisions agains. He also changes a lot throughout Cere’s flashbacks and after escaping the Imperial base and thinking about Dagen Gara, he knows that he needs to be more careful about his mission and his motives as he doesn’t want to end up like Dagen and when he and Merrin confront Bode, Cal uses the lessons that Cere taught him to look for multiple way outs as he also realises that he has killed enough people that are more dangerous such as the Ninth sister and Ravis, he knows that killing doesn’t solve anything and it should only be used as a last resort in case the enemy refuses to listen.

Cal will probably get force choke and force crush but Dark Jedi are selfish and seek more power but Cal wants to protect and doesn't care about himself or his own power. Cal is the first canon Grey Jedi. Merrin has clearly put a target on her back and Palpatine would love to get his hands on a powerful Nightsister and turn her into his Emperor's Hand. Third game will probably be about Cal fighting/rescuing Merrin and coming to terms with using the his rage/passion unselfishly to protect. Who knows, maybe Merrin dies and Cal will be a Dark Jedi that Ahsoka needs to deal with.

According to some lore, Cal has been channeling thr darkside for a long time because of his slow or stasis ability. His dark side ability in Survivor, is stasis along with a different moveset and more general power. This moveset is nearly identical to Cere's, who we know came back from the dark side. Cal should not turn. I also think the whole "grey jedi" concept is a bit over hyped. A beacon of hope, much like Cere or Obi-wan would be way more interesting

I don’t think that would work. Kata isn’t nearly powerful enough to face Cal. We would be playing a ridiculously powerful Cal throughout the course of the game, just to be shot back down to reality playing as a novice padawan. And the time jump probably won’t be anything more than like 2 years, so she would be a little 11 year old child whose had part time training.

Itd be neat if Merrin turns out to be a sith spy to observe the assembly of the Jedi, to come to find out Kata is a strong force user that would be a powerful asset to the sith, setting up a unforseeable betrayal. Moving to the dark side would make sense because in the first game you unlock the inquisitors outfit and red light saber and there are a lot of red and black coustomisation options of course these colours are coulors that most dark side Jedi (Sith ) wear along with the possibility that merrin could get kidnapped or harmed so badly that she would die soon after unless the powers of the dark side aided them in being healed where cal would go through slaughtering all of the people who hurt merrin in which he would turn to the darkside this is what I think could happen it’s not me trying to summarise the video don’t get mad at what I have said because I don’t know a lot about Star Wars lore or anything if you want to say something then explain what I have said that can’t happen

I kinda thought the same thing too and it’s been my theory as well. Ever since the first game they teased him going dark with the inquisitor visions, then they added the red crystal and a inquisitor outfit in a future update. I also said in my theory that Cere would die (which she did indefinitely), so now I’m thinking my theory will come true, and by the third game Cal is going to be fully untapped into the darkside. I’m not sure if he’s going to use the Darkside exclusively, but we’ve already seen him in the ISB base, literally ripping doors open, using force rage, force crushing droids, and choking Imps. It’s only a matter of time before his chains are truly broken, and he’ll see how much of a power boost the darkness gives him; so he’d do whatever to stop the Empire. Kind of how Ezra used the dark side in Rebels to fight the Empire.
