I hate to disappoint you boys, but I was a crew chief in an A-1E Skyraider Squadron at NKP Airport, Thailand in 1968! We were on the left end of the flight line and down on the right end was an A-1H Squadron. That A-1E was the best plane I ever worked on!

I know a Vietnam vet that was a radio operator, and he told me they would call in the "Dump Truck" and a A-1 would show up and unload hell. The guys that flew the A-1s in combat saved so many lives with out question. And come on any plane with a big ass radial up front will put a smile on anyone's face when it roars to life.

Next to the A-10 Warthog, this is a plane I absolutely love for closed air support, Jets will make a couple of passes and leave but the A1 will strike disappear and then come back later when you least expect it from the opposite direction and be on station for a least 10 hours 👍

I sat in one at an airshow. Wow...what a plane! Awesome! The pilot told me he loves the handling and power this aircraft had.

@coryheckler2354 I talked with Vietnam veterans, and next to the Huey Choppers, the A1 always bought a smile to their face and talked about them holding the enemy back while they got picked up by the huey's

I served on two carriers from 65-69. The first was CVA-19.. Bonnehom Richard aka Bonnie Dick and had the pleasure of working with the "Spads". So many came back shot to hell and most landed successfully. They'd withstand tremendous damage. Won't talk about the pilot's stories about dropping their ordinance on water buffalos before returning to land. Great times they were.

Funny thing is that my friend (came to the US as a young Vietnamese guy), and eventually became a USAF officer. Such a cool story to hear how they were able to get out of Vietnam.

I was on the flight line in Quonset point or our from 58 to 62. We sent many planes out of mothballs to Vietnam but we didn’t know where they were going.

Everything is good until the guy said that "we're here today because of the veterans." The only time that our nation was in any real danger was when it was born, the war for independence against the British. No one has ever invaded us, no one can. Even the Japanese, when they hit Pearl Harbor, that attack was meant to cripple the fleet in order to allow Japan to have freedom of action in the Pacific. They NEVER meant to invade us and no one else has either. It is our country that goes around bombing, invading and destroying other people's countries. I say this as a USMC veteran. We need to be honest about ourselves and stay out of "foreign entanglements," like our founders stated.

Well Maczguire its rather too bad that you re of the rather dim opinion thst the only time the USwas in danger was during the War of Independance. Because you are patently incorrect. I refer you to the War of 1812 wnen the British invaded the US from C anada and burned a portion of Washington. vlu f ing as I recall the White House. I refer you to the Civil War when the Xouth got somewhat close to enlisting t h e aid of the British Navy . I refer you to Germanys att e mpt to enlist Mexi c o againdt the US on behalf of the Axis powes in WW1. And only an idiot would believe thst had the Japanese succeeded in destroyed the oil storsge at Pearl and our 4 aircraft car r iers thst were at sea that they would not h a ve taken and occupied the Hawaiian Islands and used th as t as a base of operatios ag as inst the West coast of the US. The Japanese acctually did occupy a portion of Alaska for a time. You re not a rong that the US has bee in some bad and pointless wars since the 1960s i would include Vietnam the 2nd Gulf War Afghanistan and Libya.. These are a direct result in my opinion of p o litical stupidity and lzck of accountsbility of the political leaders of the US and the e ntrenched idea thst we have to make the w I rld safe for the oil companies and democr

I don't know why you like the Avenger so well. It was way outclassed even at the start of the war. It could take a lot of punnishment, though. The Helldiver was hated by everybody, and many carriers fought to hold on to their SBD's as long as possible.
