I remember when A10s first showed up in 1980. I became enamored with those screaming turbofans almost immediately. We were doing a combined arms live fire and during a pause, three of em came rolling in all ɓbbbbrrrrrttt happy. We all knew what they were, and they became instant favorites.

In Vietnam, the sound you wanted to hear was the WHAP WHAP WHAP of a Huey's blades chopping through the air. Today, it's that incredible whine of those engines and the BRRRRRT of that massive gun. The sound of the cannon is like the sky being torn open and hellfire raining down on the enemy.
