Thank you guys for checking out the video, and hope you found it useful! If you are looking to spend a little more money, I made another video about a very simple and extremely portable IEM system that I use most of the time I travel for gigs or whenever I don't want to take my Sennheisers out of the rack. Glad to help! Also just keep in mind that the more of these cheap wireless you have next to each other, the more likely they are to get dropouts. Using 1, or 2, or 3 are usually fine, just don’t put them right next to each other. That’s part of the reason IEMs and wireless have different price points... the higher the price, usually the more units you can use at once

I've tried this and it works great in my garage. Will try at a gig next week. I went with the lekato wireless that runs on UHF frequency so it wouldn't conflict with my NU-X B5RC that runs on 2.4ghz. only difference I can tell going wireless is it almost seems like there is a noise gate or something. I don't hear the first click of the click track but I do when hardwired with a cable. Weird. Small price to pay for being able to move around and not trip on any cords.

Dude... I HATE cable tangling. For the band we have sweet Sennheiser in ear system but at home... I'm tethered by cables... Tried blue tooth but even fast transmitters have a lag. Recently nabbed this wireless system on your recommendation and it's great. Maybe a shade bright but definitely workable until I'm willing to pony up for Sure. My first thought was to get another pair and reverse it for the home cans. Beat me to it haha. I would have just gone to a cable adapter but think you're spot on with the in ear amp for volume control. Great videos. I appreciate the work you've done to try these all out and share your experience. Thank ya sir!

@@ScottUhlMusic Any suggestions beyond the P2? They're pretty much out everywhere. Next jump up I see is $80 or more. Side note... I thought I'd get around the need for the monitor amp with a series of adapters. It worked but sound was like 30% of what my cable was. I asked our sound tech what he thought it might be. Thank you so much for your videos! ✌🏼🤘 How would you rate the In Ear sound in general and also with some high gain guitar tones?
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 3 жыл бұрын
For this DIY inear system, it sounds fine to me, but some people are more picky for their tone. However, in general for high gain guitar tones and for bass I definitely would recommend getting custom molded inears and at least 3 drivers. With the universal fit ones it kind of sounds a little tinny. You get the general idea of what your tone is, and you can hear if you are making a mistake and stuff like that, but the quality improves drastically with custom molds in my opinion. But after switching to IEM, I have a hard time doing the few songs I’ve done without them. I love them

@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks! How much sound-difference is there when you compare it to your Sennheiser wireless ... ?
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 3 жыл бұрын
I would say this diy set up gives you about 80% of the quality of the sennheiser unit. You definitely get more noise/static with this one. It’s definitely still useable imo, but you get what you paid for, and the sennheiser is definitely better of course. I still use this setup for my acoustic shows though

Bought the P2 on your recommendation and it works nicely, so thanks very much for that. Was looking for an affordable solution to very annoyiong cable problems. I already had a 2.4Ghz Getaria for my bass so though I would try it with that before buying another for the IEM's. Has a little bit of static noise or interference so I will be purchasing a more expensive 5Ghz set to hopefully sort that problem out. Sidenote, I ony have a couple of phones/tablets in my studio using wifi, other than that there are no wireless signals in the room at the same time.

5.8 should be better, but… just remember this stuff is cheap for a reason, and this is a DIY hack for and IEM system. It works for sure, and I’ve giggled with it… but if you want a really good one, you’ll need to spend the money. Great video. Im looking for a budget wireless monitoring system to send click track to headphones... Im looking at the BOYA XM6 (Rode Wireless GoII alternative) wireless lavalier system to use as a wireless pack to send my headphones mix to the receiver. But seeing some of your other reviews, maybe I should stay away from 2.4ghz? Hope you can have a look, as its seems like an easy stereo option with the line-in/out option. 5ms claimed latency is also is to consider. Im also just a 1 man band type with the occasional guest musician, so moving far distances is not a priority, Not sure if distance helps the 2.4ghz stability, but im typically never further than 10ft from my setup. Thank you, Just subbed, great content! Cheers

Thanks! I just looked at it, and yeah with it being on 2.4, that’s the worst part. 2.4 does still work, I’ve just had a lot of bad luck with it. So I would suggest looking into this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6qqhIWvibyVnqc It’s actually cheaper 👍 And 5ms of latency is definitely nothing to worry about if you do decide to get the BOYA instead. You won’t hear that. But the one in the video link I sent is cheaper than the BOYA and works really well. My singer uses it as his main wireless IEM system

Range always depends on the conditions of the venue. And with cheaper wireless gear you often do get less range. I believe these will be good for 50-100ft in good conditions. So it will depend on the show and the wireless environment at the show. Remember, this is an IEM “hack” to save money. It won’t work in every single scenario. If you need a full on IEM system, you can still get some for pretty cheap now 👍

Hi Scott Love your channel. Thanks for taking the time. I'm setting up a new home studio. Like you I detest cables so I'd like to go wireless monitoring/recording. I have a decent budget up £1000 ($1500) Input 1 Guitar to amp (wireless) Input 2 Guitar Amp to mixer/interface (wireless) Input 3 Bass to amp/pedal board (wireless) Input 4 Bass amp to mixer/interface (wireless) Input 5 Mic to interface/mixer (wired) Output Mixer/interface to wireless IEM (wireless) So I make that 5 lots of paired units with as close to zero latency as possible. Do you think the setup you mention in this video with the Behringer pack would work or could you recommend another? The idea is to have everything connected permanently to make workflow as straightforward as possible...just pick up, play and monitor with zero sound being emitted beyond the in ears. Thanks again
@ScottUhlMusic

I think that should be fine. If you start compounding wireless that’s where you can start getting latency, especially with cheaper ones. I’m assuming bass and guitar amps are separate. Buffer size might be an issue, but I think it would work 👍

Hi, thanks for presenting this solution. I'm searching a wireless setup for silently practicing with my electric violin at home, running it through my amp. As non-DIY Setup I thought of a Line6 G10 for violin>amp & Xvive U4 for amp>in-ear, which would end up at ~400$. Line6 G10 only because it's highly recommended in violin forums, since I heard that not all transmitters work that great with piezo pickups, since they got a high impedance. If I instead try this budget solution, could I use 2x ammoon transmitter for violin>amp & amp>in-ear or are there interferences to be expected? Would you recommend these transmitters for piezo pickups?
@ScottUhlMusic

I do not believe the G10 works with piezo pickups, but I could be wrong. You could go with 2 Ammoon ones. Use the black one for the violin and the red-ish one for the IEM system 👍

I am using a BOSS WL-50 transmitter + receiver set FROM my guitar INTO my Digitech RP360 effects processor/amp simulator. And then a BOSS WL-20L transmitter + receiver set FROM my Digitech RP360 and finally INTO my Behringer Powerplay P2. The BOSS WL-50 and WL-20L work seamlessly and without interfering with each other. You just have to remember to "pair" each set's transmitter to the proper receiver before each session. Coming OUT of the Digitech RP360's stereo 1/8" output jack via a high quality 10' long, 1/8" to 1/8" patch cable, I then use a high quality 1/8" female to 1/4" male adapter going into a high quality 1/4" female to 1/4" female line connector, with the WL-20L transmitter 1/4" plug going INTO the opposite end of the 1/4" female to 1/4" female line connector. The WL-20L receiver is then plugged directly INTO the Behringher Powerplay 2 with, of course, a pair of high quality studio headphones coming OUT of the the Behringher Powerplay 2. (The pocket clip on the Behringer Powerplay P2 is super-convenient.) This is how I practice at home. All together this cost significantly more than $100 but I chose to go this route because of the versatility of all of this gear if I want to set up differently, for instance, using the BOSS WL-20L and the WL-50 to go wireless with two instruments simultaneously (me and a collaborator) or even to go wireless with one instrument and, by way of a XLR to 1/4" male converter, one mic. Haven't tried that yet but I COULD without paying $300 for a BOSS wireless mic receiver/transmitter set. (Which I probably will do anyway because I'm sick. SICK, I TELL YOU! This is what Sweetwater can do to a person. Guard your Souls, friends....)

Very cool idea. Can multiple people (each with their own receivers) take a feed from a single transmitter? Any issues if you and your band mates are using lots of these budget wireless systems at the same time? Or even if you are using one for guitar and one for IEM? Those two devices are going to be pretty close to each other.
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
1) Not with this system no, this is an IEM hack. Other actual IEM systems do allow that 2) the more wireless on stage, the more of a chance of dropouts. Especially with cheap ones. Cheap wireless have maybe 4 channels available to transmit on. Higher end ones have thousands of available channels and 20-100 can be used at once. So with this IEM hack, I would not recommend using a ton of these. Instead I would look into a cheap IEM system I reviewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnuvkK1_Z8mliLM 3) using 2 at once shouldn’t be a problem, but it always depends on the wireless environment. But 2 should almost always be fine

Hi - great video. This is exactly the kind of solution I was looking for, but I have one question. My planned setup is a little different than yours or probably most others, as I do not plan to use my band's mixer as my in ear feed. Mostly because I am only using this for band practice - not gigs. For our practices, the only things that run into the PA are the vocals and keyboards. Guitars, drums and bass are all separate. What I am using currently is a Zoom H2N recorder. I set it up a few feet away from me and it's condenser mic picks up all the instruments and I use its headphone jack output to connect to my Shure ear buds. It works great, but I would like to get rid of the headphone cable by adding the Behringer P1 and the Amoon wireless system to my setup. So my question is - can I simply plug the Amoon 1/4 jack into a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter coming out of the Zoom mic's headphone out? The issue I am worried about is that the headphone out is stereo, whereas the 1/4 jack is obviously mono. Thanks again - your video was great - easy to follow and your solution is very creative and can save people a lot of money.
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video. To answer your question, yes it would work. I’m not sure how the stereo to mono would work, as sometimes when you do that you will get only the left or right side. You could also use the adapter out of the P1 as well if you wanted to do that. Also at that point, a cable might just be better. But either way, using a 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter should work no problem. 👍 the mono might be the only problem if you have any

He wants to hear his own voice that's correct. He tends to move around when preaching so using a cable from the aux to connect to the Behringer is not ideal

Ok cool, then yeah you need to use the aux send like I do in that video. It should be very similar on the soundcraft 👍

What size rack do I need for everything? I’m going to start piecing this together. This on on my list and might be missing something. Behringher 2u. Power 1u. Splitter 2u. In ear wireless 1u. My guitar wireless 1u. My helix 2u. Power amp 1-2u. Leave a space for router?

My advice is to always leave at least 1U of room. Sometimes 2u just in case you want to upgrade 👍

Since the Behringer P2 is still backordered, i was wondering if you know anything about the Donner EM1? Looks like a similar solution. Any good?

@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks Scott - I ordered one too. it doesn't really need to do too much to be good I suppose - just play loud enough and clean, and hold a charge for a reasonable length of time. The hard work is being done by the in-ear buds and the wireless dongle. We'll both see.

I just got my Donner. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a mono/stereo switch. So my first test resulted in me getting audio only in the left channel. After reading the manual, it appears that if i use a mono to stereo plug adapter in between the wireless and the amplifier, it would send the signal to both sides. TBD (I don’t have that adapter on hand).

i might get something wrong but where and how do you plug your instrument if the T/R are already on the in ear setup? you use another pair or cable?
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I’m understanding the question, but if it’s something like my Hx Stomp, i can plug the wireless into one of the outputs and then plug the receiver part of the wireless into my ears in order to hear my hx stomp/guitar 👍
@DIVA-MC-7
@DIVA-MC-7 2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic your Stomp is some kind of IEM interface( because I don't have one)? I would like to be able to play wireless in my house but not disturb anyone. I will sometimes play on my computer via audio interface like m-audio solo or use my small instrument amplifier. I don't understand where you get the sound to come to you with just a pair of wireless plugs. Where is your instrument plugged ? 🤔I use an active bass.

With your setup, and using this IEM hack, plus the transmitter wireless into the Output if your audio interface, and then plug the receiver of the wireless into the headphone amp 👍

I have a Headrush Looperboard and want to connect my Looperboard, guitar, and IEM together wirelessly just for practice without disturbing the wife. Is that possible with a single set of Transmitter and Receiver with all the bells and whistles that are provided by the Headrush or would I need 2 sets to make it work? I'm new to all this so sorry for sounding like a noob
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
You can use this setup for sure to run a direct out of the Looperboard to your headphone amp that your IEM's are connected to (like this video). For sure. If you want the guitar to be wireless as well, you'll need another set of wireless. Cheers!

What if I wanna use stereo with this same set up ? Which receiver and transmitter do I've to use ?
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 3 жыл бұрын
To do this in stereo, you would need two wireless transmitters, which wouldn’t really make sense and I would recommend getting a system like the video I’m going to debut on Monday. I’ll post a link once it’s available. But I guess you could get two of the Ammoon systems and have the Donner EM2 attached to your belt with 2 of the Ammoon sticking out. But if you truly need stereo IEMs I would recommend getting a different system.

Also, I just realized... are you asking because you think Mono will be just in one ear? If so, that’s not the case, you still get your mix in both ears, you just don’t get to pan the sounds left or right. So when I did run a stereo iem setup, in my mix I put my vocals dead center, lead vocals panned right, drummer vocals panned left. It was nice to have the separation but overall I ended up just switching back to mono and having everything in my ears that I wanted without panning. So mono doesn’t mean “only one ear.” Thats why the P2 has that switch. If you are getting signal into only one ear, set it to “mono” and it fixes it.
@mickellyrodrigues2191
@mickellyrodrigues2191 3 жыл бұрын
I know that mono doesnt mean just getting the mix in 1 ear. I use mine and pan what's on my right to the right and same for the left keeping the bass n the whole drum kit in the centre I get good separation . But the p2 have a TRS input put so if the boss wireless system is used with a Y cable on the transmitter as the Boss has TRS Jacks on both the sides so will it work in stereo n will I get my stereo mix?

Gotcha. I get asked that “mono” question a lot, so I figured I would check. My guess is that it will NOT work since the Ammoon wireless is a TS like most guitar cables. So I don’t believe so, but you can try it and let me know. I’m curious if it would, but I don’t believe so.

Are you not using a limiter or do you know of options for only a limiter in a setup like this? I have a submixer on stage and from there i can go in my iem but im scared without limiter...

You won’t have a limiter with this, which is why I say to be cautious doing something like this since it’s an IEM hack
