I think the real answer is modern and beta are completely different games for a completely different audience. Beta was a simple "survival fantasy sandbox" where it really was just a sandbox with a basic survival twist (once you got the diamond tools and go to the nether there were no more milestones). The blocky style really played into the whole "fantasy" aspect too, which I think BTA really captures with its dungeons, auroras, and biome types. The whole playstyle + workflow is completely different to modern. There are no achievements, no automation, no trading, which in modern Minecraft provides a more goal-oriented playstyle. Without any of those goals, or for that matter anything specific that you "should" or "could" do, you really are on your own to just... build. Also, I've noticed a shift in the player base too, and a lot of the people who play Minecraft now probably would have never given it a shot in beta, and vis versa (a lot of people have stopped playing). Perhaps why this question is so polarizing.

The question I want answered is not: Is beta better than modern minecraft? Instead, why do people gave fun in old minecraft with less when modern minecraft has so much to offer? You made a bugger house just so your dog could live in there with you. A si ple motivation you gave yourself. Minecraft Beta didn't make you do that, you chose to be creative and care about your home and pets. There is no way to make players more creative. With minecraft leaning more and more into an explorer game with combat, it's easy to forget that it was a sandbox first, and that you have to use your imagination in the sand box. Or you'll get bored after two weeks.
@RexStang2 ай бұрын
@@Houndnwolf I think that the 1Y1W series has really taught me how to have fun in Minecraft again. I plan on making a full video on it sometime soon, but starting out in older versions taught me how to just slow down and build for the sake of having fun, and I’ve carried that same spirit into the later versions. Like I said in the video, I don’t think that Beta is better. What people, myself included, really miss is the “beta sprit” Minecraft is a sandbox game and in the modern version it’s easy to get caught up in progression and exploration. Thank you for the comment.

@Houndnwolf2 ай бұрын
@@CaneRossso Sorry, I got a bit heated. What I mean is that getting motivation from Minecraft and creating your own motivation is the current struggle of the game. That’s is what we need and the game isn’t going to give that to us.

One very useful BTA feature you missed is pressing Z(ed) to lock the block placement rotation in the direction you were facing while pressing the button. 0:14 That's cool, that splash screen is of my server's spawn! I do feel that the 7.1 backgrounds are a bit better than the 7.2 ones. 7.2 generally seems a bit buggier or quirkier, but it's still a good version. And the colour lighting is incredible, though unfortunately not enabled by default. Food now has limited stacks, pork being limited to 4 items per stack. 2:39 Unfortunately, that just happens on Windows when using an AMD graphics card. It's a memory leak in AMD's OpenGL 2 driver, this is a non-issue with other GPUs or on Linux (though intel ones are buggy in 7.2). AMD won't fix this, so it'll only be fixed once BTA moves to OpenGL 3 eventually. BTA really is an incredible mod, polishing the Beta game-feel to modern standards. Unfortunately the server software is a bit rough to keep going due to random partial world corruptions, which you also suffered in singleplayer. This is getting better and my last one on 7.2 fixed itself to becoming playable again, but I still properly resolved it manually. Even still, the way BTA feels and the community around it makes it worthwhile to host a server for it, even after 1 full year at this point. And after the 19.84 update along with generally preferring BTA, I do not intend to host a modern MC server again. This server's world also has some larger oceans, though not as massive as the bugged Beta world generation made it.

Ah BTA my beloved. My favorite part of older versions is the community that gets built in servers. I've played on 2 servers for longer periods and in both people built towns. By that I mean they built only a few blocks from one another. I could probably write a whole paper worth of analysis on why this is the case. Overall I definitely enjoy BTA more than Modern, I have 500hrs in BTA and thousands in Modern. To give my 2 cents on why I like BTA more than modern is because I like mining, I like the way builds are lovingly ugly, and I like the varied gameplay loop. Modern MC doesn't really offer me that. In modern I play 2 hours getting diamonds and enchanting a good pickaxe then getting an elytra, maybe 2 more hours, and I'm done getting stuff. Then I start really building whatever I want, except that's all I do. I may be alone in this but I get tired of placing blocks, crafting blocks, managing my inventory, mending my tools. Modern survival is just creative with less tools to me. For people who have huge building aspirations its great, or for people who aren't as good at the game (die more often and progress more slowly). As for actually building I like the simpler block selection of BTA, I'm not even close to good enough at building to leverage the expansive block list Modern MC offers. For me, my builds in Modern MC make me feel bad at building, after all I know it could be A LOT better if someone else built it. In BTA the build skill ceiling isn't nearly as high so I tend to be much happier with what I achieve. For those reasons I like BTA more. I realize I'm in the minority with that opinion, so let me know what draws you to modern in the replies! Maybe the more advanced redstone, more varied blocks, more interesting mobs, etc.

Beta isn't better, its nostalgic. Theres a difference better is objectively worse due to being a beta but beyond that modern minecraft allows you to have a sandbox better then beta but beta is nostalgic and that drives people to remember it better then it actually was. You can still like it and play it all you want that is the beauty of Minecraft java but still give credit to mojang for improving the sandbox with each update for free in ways that are good and not bad.

im curious what your issues with modern minecraft you brush over at the end are, wht kind of features are examples of “bloat” and what about the progression is against creativity. Sorry if this sounds like im trying to sword fight u or something i just like to hear peoples genuine issues when its not just “mojang bad! why would they do this!!”
@RexStang2 ай бұрын
@@catharsis9789 For me it’s the elytra and also sort of the horse getting rid of any need for transportation, the totems making hardcore a joke, and the end giving such op loot. The modern game is still minecraft, and I like having more blocks and mobs, and a better nether and ocean, etc, like I said I prefer it, but you can really easily get super focused on progression that you stop caring about it being a sandbox, which is why I think peple have the “2 week minecraft phase” I don’t hate on mojang at all, if you don’t like the new update don’t play it, or don’t use its features, they are good devs.

@@RexStang i expected itd be something like this and i 100% agree, i feel like so many people dont even consider that you can build stuff before having maxed gear.
