Watching you on this project - when you discussed what you didn't want to do: digging a hole, getting solid dirt - then putting the pond mud bottom soil in the hole and bringing the solid dry dirt for the berms - it gave me an idea. If you know of a farmer who might like that mud bottom soil to use to enrich some land? Farms that have animals and grow their own feed have a special kind of wagon that they load full of manure, and can spread it out over a field. That soil in the pond could be safely disposed of that way - and it could be a boon for the farmers. Perhaps you could plug in to a local cooperative and at one of their regular meetings suggest you have something (for future projects) and would any be interested? I'm betting there is a way to get a sample tested to show how good it would be. Just an idea.
@julieenslow59153 жыл бұрын
OK now that smoking ground... well I live in Florida. And we have peat bogs that can catch fire and smoke like that for years. Do not put the soil on top of the burn pile until all the coals and embers are dead. Otherwise you are burning all the organic matter in the soil and depleting it of that element that promotes growth in plants and habitat for bugs (which are a part of the ecosystem and necessary!). I recognize this is not the way a person should comment if they intend to start following a channel, but I'd like to stick around, I am fascinated. I assume that our environments are sufficiently different you may not be aware of how burning the soil is rendering it lifeless. Given a few years it will start to rebuild it self, a decade from now it might be ok again.
