This is the beginning of a new series of videos to help you improve your 3d modeling skills, and I'll start out by giving you a challenge.
Next video will be linked in a PINNED comment below once it has been posted.

I think that people learn about Blender (or any 3D application) the wrong way. Modeling tutorials are not the correct way to learn, just a way to learn how to apply techniques you may not already know. What they should do instead is (simplified): 1- Learn the UI and how to navigate around the 3D view. Focus only on modeling at first, no need to learn texturing and animation UI if you can't even model. 2- Learn how to select things in and out of edit mode. Work on the basics and make sure you fully understand them as it applies to selection. 3- Learn the basics of geometry manipulation: Move, Rotate, Scale vertices, edges, and faces. Practice it on planes, cubes, cylinders, spheres, and other simple geometry. 4- Now learn the main tools: Extrude, Bevel, Inset/Outset, and the Knife. Practice using them on basic shapes. 5- Now learn proper topology, support loops, and polygon flow. At least the basics! And experiment over and over with just the basic geometry. Focus on those 5 things before moving on to modeling complex things before you even know how to cut a hole into a cube. Plus do NOT use the boolean or other modifers yet, they will become useful later. I think people do not focus on the basics long enough before moving on. NOW, do what Tosmo said in his video. Model something simple at first, then more complicated later and DO NOT use any tutorials. You should understand the basics before you even think about animating, texturing or UV, particles, fluids, and other things. You can pick those up as needed. For example, after you personally model a bunch of objects, try to add simple materials to shade them (without textures, just basic cell shading at this point). Once that is done, create a scene with all the colored materials and learn basic lighting. See the difference between Eevee and Cycles, how does light work on different materials, etc. Now after that maybe move into animating your scene, simple key frame stuff, not with armatures and IK. I think it is funny when people watch a character being modeled , IK rigged, and animated when they can't even model a simple item with good topography. It is like learning to draw, you don't begin by painting the Mona Lisa, you learn by drawing lines, squares, triangles - then shading to add volume - then perspective - etc. You need to practice + practice + practice the basics over and over! You cannot gain wisdom by watching someone or by reading, that is knowledge, not wisdom! You MUST actually do the work and learn hands on. But then comes the pay off! By the time you start modeling, most of what you learned in the first baby steps over the long run of doing them will become muscle memory. You will see (in your mind) what needs to be done, and you will know exactly how to do it. At this point you will look into other tools that can help minimize the busy work, and it can only improve your success.
