My opinion on the 4 cylinder muscle/pony cars is that they are clearly very capable vehicles, but they don’t fit the class of vehicle as far as I’m concerned. Another thing is that one of the reasons I’d buy a muscle car is for the sound and a 4 cylinder, even when modded like this, doesn’t meet that requirement.
@jimcabezola30512 жыл бұрын
This car is sweet! I’ve always thought that Chevrolet missed the boat when they green-lit the 6th-Gen Camaro instead of their Code 130R concept with the Ecotec I-4. That car would’ve been way better than a 6th-gen. All my life, I’m only owned 4-cylinder cars, so I’m biased AF. I say “welcome to the club, Camaro!” Camaros, in current form, are just too porky and have lousy windows. This type of engine conversion would be more appropriate in the far lighter 1967-1968 versions of the Camaro, though. I like the sound of this engine; it lacks the dopey, mouth-breathing, lumbering bellow of an American V-8. That’s a good thing!

@169abr2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisgonz19if that’s what you have that’s fine, work with it, the ecoboost is fragile and is the 2.0 in the Camaro and that’s why it’s not a good option. Big build ecoboosts start with a Focus ST block and stroke it to 2.3 to make the bigger power numbers and they had to build the bottom end for 450whp. They’re commuter engines, and by the time you’re making V8 power the price is the same if not more than the V8. For what it's worth, the Camaro still has the V6, too. The 2.0T truly was meant as a base, rental-spec engine option. If GM went the same route as Ford and axed the V6 I think we would have ended up with a stronger base to start with in these. It's a bit of a shame we won't ever get to see GMs newer 2.7T in Camaro form.

The LTG engine is built like a race engine...it was never meant to be a rental car....I think Chevy was trying to steal customers away from sport hatchbacks as theres a huge customer base for 4 banger turbos and the Tuner crowd....The 4 banger Camaro is a full on sports car.
@deegan727 Жыл бұрын
Maybe for the Camaro the 2.0 was base, but I had a Cadillac ATS with the 2.0T. The 2.5 NA 4 cyl was base for the Cadillac with the V6 being the “top” tier. No different than an EB Mustang and there's nothing wrong with both. I think it's great that there's entry level options into both platforms. What is surprising to me, is the amount of work required for reliability at 450 wheel. I would suspect that is a huge reason why no one chooses to mod these unlike the Mustang. Aftermarket support aside, the Ecoboost can handle 450 wheel fairly reliably, and usually only a Upgraded turbo, intercooler, and fueling is needed to get there. Having to spend all the extra money and time to build the ecotec is a bummer. At that point it's probably better to get a v6 Camaro and slap a turbo on it than to spend equivalent money to build the ecotec.

I've always been a fan of both Chevy and Ford's four-cylinder turbo engines. More so the Ecoboost, because it harkens back to the days of the Mustang SVO, but both platforms are very overlooked by most enthusiasts, because they don't have V8s. And don't get me wrong, I love the Coyote and the LT1, but the Ecoboost and Ecotec engines work quite well in these platforms. Think of the 2.3 Ecoboost as a modern interpretation of a Mustang SVO, because really, that's what it is. Think of the 2.0 Ecotec as a modern interpretation of Pontiac's Sprint Six engines. It's a bit of a stretch, being handicapped by two cylinders, but the idea is the same; less power, better handling. If you haven't ever actually driven either a 2.0 Camaro or a 2.3 Mustang, do it. You'll likely think differently of them than you do currently.

However, because it the Camaro name attached people hate it. Yes, there's always going to be the V8 version available, yes there's always a better option out there; however, for people who can't afford the V8 or want better gas mileage (The LTG version will get +30mpg on the highway with premium) or whatever they may want, it's not a great platform to have some fun with.

Back when the original Mustang SVO with the turbo Lima (along with the T-Bird Turbo) came out, those cars made a lot of sense to build considering they made similar numbers to a stock 5.0L. They are still very cool as far as 80s Fox bodies go. But now the whole point of these smaller engines is the value proposition. If you're going to spend nearly as much money as the difference between the base and SS to build a turbo 2.0L up to SS levels, that's thoroughly pointless unless you're just trying to be different. Kudos to the creator of this one though, it looks pretty well done even with the auto.

The turbo camaro os several hundred lbs lighter than a LT1 camaro, the lightest V8 and with similar crank hp and more torque and sticky rubber it"d be considerably quicker in all acceleraation and the Turbo Camaro 1LE has higher skid pad than any/all other Camaros. But yeah stock power its a rental.

Dodge should've took the dart and made a rwd 2.0 litre little Pony car . It could've been the GT86, Miata or S2k rival for JDM. Especially if Dodge offered a converitble and hardtop version or at least sold a nice hard top for it. I think of they really focused on making it reliable as well as giving it some really good looks the car easily would've caught a lot of buyers especially cause it would've been something none of us would've expected Dodge to do
@bigmoe89822 жыл бұрын
Nah they should keep it FWD but made a SRT version around 250hp then a GLH version with AWD 300+ hp.

Honestly, the 4 banger and v6 muscle cars (barring the charger/challenger v6) are legit performance cars now. I don’t think I’d dump a bunch of money into modding one though, because at that point you might as well have just bought the v8 from the start and had a better starting point

I am building an ltg engine now with forged rods and diamond pistons. Lspi is the killer of this engine. Using quality fuel, larger injectors and fuel pump will help it not die. Also a good pcv system like the Tracy Lewis catch can system will protect you as well. A tune by a tuner who knows what they are doing is a must with any upgrade because of the sensitivity of these motora
@Matt_Lanzer_132 жыл бұрын
I love the ltg cars, there was one floating around with full 1le suspension and it was damn near as fast as the v8 models around the track Bc it has like 300 pounds off the nose. As for this particular car, Zzp’s personal cars are all really nice, but man they need to work on their quality control. There’s a bunch of problems with a lot of their parts. Like for example; Their billet 3800 fuel rails came assembled wrong for a long time, rather than take the blame and fix the problem, their response was “oh the guy assembling them was doing it wrong” like ok cool, but he’s still your employee and your product was problematic. Idk, I’ve used their parts but still it’s annoying lol

I always considered the 79 mustang, 84-86 mustang SVO's, 86-90 thunderbird Turbo coupes as muscle cars and always loved the way a rwd 4cyl turbo felt..super light, nimble..i'm sure this is that x1000! I like it alot.

@justaformer11b952 жыл бұрын
Same. I think the mustang has an edge when it comes to handling and drivability though. So if you’re going to modify a 4cyl, may as well get one that offers the other things you need when doing a lightweight, performance based build. That is kinda my thoughts.

I think it’s price. I think the mustang gives you more for less money.
@WhoThisGuy5152 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with Chevrolet wants you to buy the V8 and made the 4 cylinder so they can continue the SS. Ford would like nothing more for people to buy nothing but their ecoboost line up so they could drop the V8 and save money. So you get more aftermarket support for the Ecoboost and less for the EcoTec.
@justaformer11b952 жыл бұрын
@@WhoThisGuy515 I thought the ford ecoboost was really expensive for them to produce? I could be way off but buying a crate ecoboost is really expensive compared to their V8 I thought.

Im sure the reason these cars arent really popular for people who like modyfing cars is beacuse of what you said about just spending the money on a v8. It doesnt make sense to me to put a bunch of money into a 4 cyl just to make what the stock v8 does but with less reliability. Id rather just sell the I4 and put the money towards a v8 with alot more potential...

I believe the main reason why they even bothered to make 4 cylinder Mustangs and Camaros is to tap into the global market (Europe-Japan) that has ridiculous taxes for anything above the 2-2.5 Litre category. I have seen tons of 4 Cylinder Mustangs here in Greece for instance.

I’m going to have to correct you. Yes Ford did get rid of the V6. But Chevy still kept the V6. You can still get a 3.6 in a brand new Camaro which is an upgrade to the base 2.0. IMO the 3.6 is a better platform then the 2.0 because the bottom end is much stronger.
