What an incredible couple! A man who in spite of all the discrimination and cruelty he has faced, still held on to his kindness and character. And a woman who in a time of such racism, saw past other people’s misjudgments and loved him because of him. Who left her family and life behind because she knew it was the right thing to do. Incredible! They should be so proud of themselves and the beautiful children they’ve made!

My great grandparents are interracial.... my great grandmother a black creole from Louisiana and her husband a mestizo Mexican from New Mexico. When he told his family he was going to ask to marry her, his family told him "if you marry that black bitch you’re dead to us" to which he gladly said "OK then, bye👋 " he’s in his late 80s now and I used to ask him was it a difficult decision. And he says "I knew from the moment I saw her she was my wife, nothing and no one was going to get in the way." Grandma Mary passed away about six years ago now. And I never saw my grandpa so sad. And to know he gave up everything to be with her. They had 8 children, and were married close to 60 years. They were fully in love and devoted to each other until the end.

Beautiful, 53 years of marriage, that in itself is an achievement, let alone the challenges they unnecessarily had to face. Most marriages cant get through those milestones. Should be a lesson to us all. From a blonde white woman having gone out with mixed race/black men in the past as a 30 year old, despite being settled with a white man now. I still remember the racial slurs, the disgusting looks from both races respectively in those relationships. It's sad, it hurts. We need to remember history, teach it but progress. @@MolliD1 honey I'm 61, on the west coast. I say it's getting worse because it is. I've lived in the different parts of the country, and the divide is great. More black people are being murdered by the police than in a very long time. Not since they were slave catchers, the original American police force. Law enforcement today sporting swastika tattoos, proud of their affiliation. I don't know what community you're safely ensconced in but stay there. We always strive to make peaceful, nurturing homes in spite of circumstances. But we cannot deny the world; it's past, the present, and the ominous future. God bless you, be safe
@MolliD13 жыл бұрын
@@miapdx503 Law enforcement is a different subject all together. Let me say this as well with cellphones being accessible to everyone recording makes it look even worse but the abuse that black folks have gone through with the police has not changed or gotten worse since I was young. I have family members that can testify to that and there weren’t any videos to prove it. We keep talking about racism all the time Black this White that further divides the country. This country has fallen away from God and from what Christ commanded us to do and that’s to love one another. I got called the N word alot growing up I’ve gotten into plenty of physical fights over it with males and females. Growing up mixed is was easier now than it was in the sixties and seventies especially on the west coast. East coast wasn’t as tolerant. I was born in a small city in Southwest Washington with only four or five black families in it which mine was one of them having moved from Texas so I know racism. If you turn off the television what do you witness? Me? I witness nothing, no racism at all and I moved back to that small city where I was born from Seattle back in the 80’s. Like Morgan Freeman said, we need to stop talking about it and stop calling people a white man and a black man. The media is all about division because it makes a good story. Trust in God because he made us all in his image and that’s all that matters. God bless you as well.

My mum & Dad have been married 48yrs. They fight like cat & dog but I know they’d be lost without one another. I’ve read many biographical books from the 40’s - 60’s about midwifery, post WWII, & how awful it was for any black / white couples who fell in love & had babies. I truly don’t think this generation can even grasp how difficult it was for them. Doors slammed in their face, innocent black children trying to play with other neighbourhood kids on the street - their parents ushering their white kids inside, Andrew is right, they wouldn’t have got childcare for their children enabling her to work. It really was bloody tough. But look at them.. they loved one another so fiercely, none of it ever mattered because they had one another, & that bond.. that strength is unbreakable. May she rest peacefully until you’re all together again one day. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story of your lives together ❤️ xx
