Most of us live in (relatively) 'free' countries, yet corporate sponsorship now dictates what we can and cannot talk about. There is nothing actually wrong with saying drug names, yet the (perhaps cautious) censorship of it has been somehow normalised.

What I do not like about the New Zealand program is they cut out bits, like the name of the drugs being smuggled in. Surely naming it would warn people about not trying to take it through customs. The Australian prog never cuts out anything.

it's just the youtube version, the actual show isn't bleeped out. on youtube music is often blurred out to avoid copyright problems and words like suicide, drugs and cussing are cut out to avoid the video being flagged. The actual version isn't cut out.

I'm from Thailand, and the backpacker's substance is most likely marijuana or hemp since it's legal here. Would make sense if she or someone she knows smoked and touched the handle. Could also be ice, which is a variation of methamphetamine which is also prevalent here, hence the "*beep*, which is a derivative of *beep*" at 16.00. She's just unlucky as heck, got random searched and found out someone that did drugs touched her bag. Glad she got in ok though.😅

The worst that will usually happen, is getting ripped off by a taxi driver or some merchant, when buying things - some of them are exaggerating prices by an order of a magnitude, compared to what they would be taking from locals - but it is likely still less, then you would be paying at home. And some of them have honed their social and communication skills by focussing on foreigners so much, that it is an ordeal, to ward them off. There are far worse places to visit in the world.

Not really. Thoroughly and frequently washing your hands has been proven in multiple studies to be more effective than gloves (discourages handwashing in many, and gives a false sense of protection). They do use them if they feel unsafe, though - I've seen a few episodes where they are wearing them while dealing with anything that may harm them or would be difficult to clean off fully. Face masks only really work if you're worried about something airborne (which would already be problematic the second it was opened on a table at the side of a thoroughfare, and not inside an airtight room without public access). They're looking for pathogens and insects that will affect agriculture, not humans, so gloves and masks are not necessary - so long as they wash their hands thoroughly with hot water and soap in between searches. I would like to see them thoroughly clean down the desks between searches to prevent cross contamination, though. I hope they do that, but it's not something shown on the TV show. (Edited to fix typo)

I mean the credit card thing part is a bit funny. Come on, there's a card in the world call Debit Card or Visa Electron which without a cardholder name on it. Furthermore, the number weren't printed as the same as we have on Credit Card. Clearly it's a Visa Electron or you can call it a "Debit Card". It's definitely not a Credit Card because if it was a Credit Card, it will be shining on the Visa or Master logo. I'm wondering what sorts of education about this so simple common sense things on those border officers.
