@@sachadee.6104 I never said it to be a proof. But a personal search of the passenger and throughout inspection of the luggage takes a lot of time. So what if a lot of those searches were not nessecary because the first hint (positive swab test) was provoked by an officer cross contaminating tests? So my question is: How many time intensive searches with negative result could have been avoided by using single use gloves while inspecting the personal belongings of a passenger.

If the last guy seemed edgy, you stated. The other agent told you he had not eaten or drunken anything in 2 days, as well he was epileptic and had been having mini seizures and needed his medication. Well I would say that all those reasons are why he was edgy as you put it.

Those machines are bogus. So many readings of illegal substances turn out to be nothing. I had the same thing happen to me. They said there was high readings of coke on my shoes. They searched and found nothing. I've never even used drugs. I think you can easily transfer traces of it onto your clothes and shoes just by staying in hotels.

So just saw a show where they stopped a guy for not having enough money on them for their trip to Australia, so you can get stopped from leaving UK because you carry too much money but not allowed in Australia because you aren't carrying enough money.

The concern in Australia is that you will work whist on a tourism visa to earn money. Unless you have a sponsor how can you support yourself during your holiday if you don't have sufficient funds upon arrival.

I think the issue was that he was claiming benefits. If you're going to be asking the state for handouts, then you're inviting the state to put your finances under a microscope. In addition they said he owed taxes. I'm normally very against seizure of cash but I think in this case it was warranted.

@@abdosimon I don't think there is an issue travelling with £4,000 in cash. The issue is that he owed taxes. If you owe taxes and are leaving the country with cash, you don't think the different agencies work together? If you want to hear 'ridiculous', I have money in a European bank. The account became dormant due to lack of use. The bank now refuses to close my account and release my money to me unless I can produce a tax clearance certificate. I don't owe taxes (nore do they claim that I do) but somehow they have a right to hold onto my money until I can produce a document stating that all my taxes are paid. Now THAT is criminal.

@@dlyras I’m sorry to hear that has happened to you - considering most euro countries are PAYE the risk of tax evasion is much lower than In other countries. I do think agencies work together, but a tax bill isn’t always something in stone, there are adjustments and other complexities that do not make tax liabilities such a clear cut payment. Imagine if you got sent a letter 1 week ago / you are in a dispute with HMRC and even if you are correct eventually, you still get the money seized and returned albeit much later.

I have been singled out after flying back to the USA. Never caught with anything. Not into drugs. But after a 16-hour flight in the economy section, all I want to do is get out of the airport, breath some fresh air, and get away from people. Being searched, and asked frivolous questions is irritating.

When I was 58 I flew solo to New Zealand and I was quite stressed because I had never flown internationally before and it was a long haul flight. The very first checkpoint at OR Tambo airport a lady told me her dog was very interested in my bag and could she have a look. I had 3 months prescription drugs with me. Anyway, I was subjected to special attention at every counter until I landed in New Zealand. And I was innocent!! Just a bit stressed.

Every counter until you landed, there's no counters on the plane and one customs counter in NZ. Customs has a job to do and I you are carrying medication obviously the dog is going to alert. I have always had a great time with nz customs

Make sure you carry a notice from your physician about your medications affirming that you're on these medications for treatment of health conditions. If any are used off label for treatments, have the doctor also note that it's being used and prescribed off label to treat such and such condition. It can be very helpful for both you and the officers together. Keep a printed out inventory of all medications you are carrying with you, the diagnosis they're used to treat you for, and, if you want, a receipt from the pharmacy for everything you have with you. For me I am on many medications and that's what I do anytime I travel. The officers actually really appreciate the diligence and attention paid to the matter on your end and it makes it so much more of a smooth process. :). I also have diseases that cause me to have tremors. Sometimes they're rapid and fast sometimes they're less noticeable. They are easily confused for nervousness and for other issues. My eyes don't properly focus all the time either due to neurological issues which further alerts their suspicions because they don't know I have these health issues. I always carry a medical ID card with me from a company like MyID or another one that has my health record and explains these symptoms so that they can clearly see this is what's going on and no cause for alarm on their end. It's a huge help for them to have that too.

I recently watched part of a video of customs at an Australian airport. A significant part of it was about a "biosecurity" inspection. The customs agent was incompetent beyond belief, failing in even rudimentary handling methods. This is presumably because the agency is incompetent and its hiring and training standards are low. Another agent wore gloves when inspecting something presumed to contain illicit drugs, but then touched his face with his gloved hands.

No drugs, no fugitives, no terrorists, no real crimes. In the United States we see them as small minded & petty & unprofessional. Trying to make something out of nothing. U can tell they've never had any type of power throughout their whole lives. Most likely bullied & picked on & now its their turn to bully & pick on others. ADMITTING I had a lot of fun with this one. In October of 2023 I suffered a major medical emergency. I was LUCKY & survived. I take a lot of meds, now. A friend got me a wonderful gift for all my meds and it's a lovely canvas bag with "Bag full of drugs" embroidered on it. Yep, took all my meds, stuffed them in that bag and boarded a flight. TSA on the other end, in EU, had a GREAT laugh with me when I landed.

They need to get this recalibrated to a reasonable level since nothing was found on any of the passengers. It’s guilty until proven innocent in the states. I was driving early to work and was definitely tired, cop pulled me over and I was arrested for DWI. So I was jailed and lost my license until trial. There was no blood taken, I passed the regular test at the police station. Got my license back after the charges were thrown out. I just came here to say the law is a joke.

Well, there was, indirectly. They had to buy the things in the first place, so they lost all that money they invested in their smuggling attempt. And I would say there's a good chance those cigarettes were actually sold, with all appropriate taxes, so the Crown made a bit off their end.

They buy it in a country where they’re cheaper and less taxed and sell in a country that is taxed but you’re selling them under the table so you’re not paying those extra taxes. My older family who smoked would get theirs in Mexico or a reservation but like they say in the video it’s limited to a couple cases a person so you can’t make hundreds of grand off of it.

@@genericamerican7574 Um, yeah. You misunderstood my comment. Why wouk4d UK Customs be checking outbound luggage? Its made clear the would be smugglers brought them from Gran Carinas. The voiceover states the rules are 1 carton is allowed. Per person. Not per molecule in their bodies. I think I heard all they would probably get in actusl profit was 2 to 4 thousand between them. And that doesn't count airfare, accomodations and expenses on the islands. Possibly costs for a travel visa if required. Altogether there seems very little profit potential and a massive investment with attendant massive risk to lose half, in case one of the two got through, or, as happened, all because the two both got caught. Even if the paid 1 Pound a carton they both lost 32,000. And they certainly were nowhere near that cheap. My mothervis a smoker, and said here in the US cigarettes are 4 bucks a pack, so 40 for a carton. A quick look said cartons are between 30 and 40 Pounds, once converted from Euros. At the low end since one person implied that was a cheaper brand, that's 960,000 Pounds each. No, I was saying the cigarettes were certainly not destroyed, but resold within the UK by government dustributors, with the correct tax added. That's free money for the government. The retail price seems to be a whopping 15 Pounds in the UK, per *pack* a bit of quick math and retail for 32000 cartons is 4.8 million Pounds. And there were two, so 9.6 million. Sure, that's not a lot to a national government, but its way too much to think they just incinerated that haul.

I got stopped at Heathrow heading to NZ in my case was a dozen cans of beer for my old man and a Sony walkman, i soon got stood aside and police with automatic rifles soon entered the scene. This was in 93 after the IRA set off the bomb in London. After they found out it was beer and sounds they took me to X ray machine and run case through again to show me why they were concerned, it looked like a bomb wires from walkman by a dozen beers.

Just stay within the law and be polite, I said, especially when you're in the wrong. I was given this piece of wisdom by my mother. It's probably the best advice she ever gave me.

Here's the best advice for innocent travelers and smugglers: Speak the language, be calm, be respectful. Honestly, most smugglers would be fine if they do that. Pop a beta blocker if you need to calm down the uncontrolled physical symptoms of stress.

All we see on these programs are the half a percent of customs encounters that seem at all interesting. I’ve watched a lot of these shows on television and have seen many smugglers caught. In this video not one person they searched was found to have any contraband. Seems to me they are not very good at what they’re doing.

They're good at what they're doing. Nobody is psychic. And so when certain classic warning signs trigger an alert they have to do the searches. Also in order to maintain standards and to insure the officers are properly screening people, they often are required to do various random searches throughout their shifts as well that are not based on any readings, but that are used for controls in the process. These keep officers on their toes and actually help them hone their skills at determining a false positive before they even reach a need to do a search. These are good that they're happening, not bad.

That is because the drug package wrapping usually contains traces of the drug on the outside, I don't think they package narcotics in a sterile room in a sterile wrapping. Those traces get ingested and are excreted via sweat, probably because they swallow the packages shortly before flight. Feet wrapped in socks and shoes probably trap the sweat and thus the traces of the drug. Could be wrong though I am just guessing here. @@andremadeira6916

I always bring food from Chicago back to Vegas. I am often stopped by TSA and I get it. One of my favorite things is giardanera from a place called Pops beef. They put it in a plastic container, I ask them to wrap it well as I'm bringing it on the plane. Of course I'm flagged. The guy starts to unwrap the tons of plastic on the container. I tell him what it is. He stopped pretty much right away which I was grateful for because I didn't want oil all over my stuff. If you don't act crazy, chances are they will do minimal "searching." If you are knowingly breaking the law and bringing prohibited stuff, you're not to bright. I can't believe I just got flagged on you tube for saying more on.

Did you ever consider you were getting a positive reading each time the passenger came through customs because he was using the same bag each time he traveled. He may be innocent or testing to see if he can lull you into automatically attributing the positive reading to be the same as before.
