I love this, I've always wondered why we didn't have something similar because relocating soil is pretty normal

I used the Terraform Rimworld mod a while back for a "greening the desert" run. I liked it because it allows you to set the work and resource requirements for changing terrain type (and requires research). I think I had it set to 75 wood and 10,000 work for each tile (dining chair = 45/8,000, so it was quite resource intensive on a desert tile). The downside was that the mod also allows you to remove overhead mountain without any cost, and I just. couldn't. keep. away. from. it. So I took it out. This mod you've recommended looks good, but tbh I wouldn't call it balanced: fertile soil that is of no use because of its location has no value, so there's no downside to relocating it. Unless the work requirements are really high or there's a resource cost (like 5 fertile soil for 1 new tile), it's not balanced vs. vanilla. Neither was my approach, either. To be balanced the cost would have to be equivalent to a kind of cheap hydroponics -something that requires a continual investment and increases colony wealth. Like you said though, it's a step up from tilled soil, it alleviates OCD, it's a single player game, and in the end, the raid point calculation balances everything anyway. Kind of gives me Don't Starve vibes. Thanks for the tip!

Another great mod suggestion. I like the idea of this, being able to transport rich soil - but not having an infinite pot. You move the rich soil, of course what is left will be lesser in quality. Nice overview Jadz. Thanks.

For balance/challenge purposes I see, but realistically, you can dig hundreds of meters and it's still access to soil. So in theory you should be able to farm at least 10 times the amount of soil available. So I don't quite understand why would people mind it too much. But nice mod review, thanks for sharing.

Sounds like an interesting mod. What about encounter maps though? The smaller ones you get when your caravan gets ambushed, your long range scanner detects ores, enemy outposts etc - can you dig the soil up there and move it home? If so, unlimited soil becomes easy again.
@Jadziax2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that would be easy at all, as you'd have to caravan and have enough pack animals etc to bring it back home. Just like a mining outpost.
@sourcererseven38582 жыл бұрын
it's actually mentioned as a feature in the mod description, especially to be able to get soil into your desert or ice map. For this kind of mod it's easy for the player to just use it as they wish. Think getting unlimited soil by bringing it in from other map tiles is OP? Just don't do it.

Personally I prefer Fertile fields. Its not quite as strict as this one but have the same theme of moving resources around and not just creating ferile soil out of thin air. Its balanced compared to this by requireing a lot more effort in terms of work hours.

I really wanted a mod to remove mud and soft sand
@sael13372 жыл бұрын
I would rate it maybe a 4.5/10 in OPness, getting forced to settle in a specific place ads to the difficulty of a playthrough alot more than you would think, and this mod reduces that a lot. I feel it needs some negative aspects to make it a bit more balanced, even if you need to spend some time digging the soil up. it's a permanent positive for a short one time investment of some time. maybe if you needed to create and use fertilizer, to use the soil it would feel much more balanced.
@TesseraCraft2 жыл бұрын
I have not used this mod yet, but I am seeing additional uses of this. How does it work with marshy soil, or mud? could we pick up mud move it to a moister pump, and have the pump improve it, then move it back to the other spots. Or when building in a swamp can you use this mod to make terrain that is undesirable to sappers to want to cross? this mod does sound alot more balanced then tilling soil so it becomes better then hydroponics.
@Jadziax2 жыл бұрын
You can't move moist terrain (mud, marsh, etc) which I think makes sense. Just Soil, Stony Soil, Rich Soil, Sand, and Ice (if you are in an icy biome and/or have the Water Freezes mod)
@operator80142 жыл бұрын
hmmm. can you travel to another map tile, dig up all the good stuff, and haul it back?
@Jadziax2 жыл бұрын
yep. But you'd of course have to bring enough people/pack animals/etc to carry all the soil so thats still a challenge. Like a mining outpost.

Could you make a caravan to nab some rich soil from another map?
@Jadziax Жыл бұрын
yes you totally could!
@mathdantastav24962 жыл бұрын
There's no such thing as cheating in a single player game, but some things can be OP, making the game not fun imo I'd like a mod that allows you to relocate through short distances, so that you can make the rich soil look nice and square, but not full relocation, cause if i had this, I'd just relocate the fertile soil in the entire map to my base, and it might not be infinite, but it would be quite a bit of soil. Imo it kinda takes the decision making aspect of selecting a place for your base, since the soil will not be one of the factors to take into consideration anymore but anyone can play their singleplayer games as they like I love it for stone floors though lol
