Brother you did good building his kit. You used the skills you learned as a child and added modern techniques to his bag. If he learned anything about how to survive in the woods or hunting and gathering he will do fine!!!!! The only opinion from me is more food and water. But in Canada you have more access to fresh water than us in America. I have been teaching people that here in cities we do not have access to drinking water br😅our creeks are polluted and will have to travel a great distance to met to clean water. Other bushnuts (the fake idiots) preach that you can filter any water with any straw or pocket filter which is false. Need someone to teach the difference in safe water versus polluted water from the damn creeks in cities. But good enough if carries the knowledge to use the gear. SEMPER FI

Wow, great kit. Very complete. A comment and a suggestion. You said in the first aid part to put super glue IN a wound, I think you meant ON a wound to keep it closed, never in a wound. The suggestion is add an israeli bandage to the medical kit. You could take some of the tape out if you needed to make room or for weight considerations.

For your med kit may I suggest you get some hydrocortisone cream, ace wrap, SAM splint, 5x9 pad, bleed stop, compression wrap and trauma shears. This way he can treat sprains or breaks, stop bleeding and put on a pressure dressing. For the water kit some treatment tabs in case something happens to the water filter. Your son is extremely lucky to have you. Did I miss seeing a headlmp?

Great kit! I would have some recommendations tho...waterproofing is key and just covering with a poncho isn't good enough, anything that could be compromised (socks etc) by water needs to be individually sealed. I would drop alot of the extras and add ready to drink water cuz there isn't always time to stop to sanitize/purify, a sleep system meaning something to sleep under (which you have an outstanding tarp) something to sleep on and something to sleep in. Also I would wrap all electronics in 4 layers of foil with plastic wrap in between each layer as an insulator against an emp or solar events, other wise all electronics could be compromised and this process would waterproof them as well. I would also change red fire pulls to orange so they don't get confused with medical should someone else need to assist for whatever reason, I would also remove as much extra packaging as possible as it helps mainly with space but a little weight also. Does that life straw have threads in the bottom to attach to a bottle or bag? If not I would switch to a sawyer mini or something like that so it will work with the water bottles, because if you can't have a fire for whatever reason then water can't be boiled so the meals could be useless unless water purification tabs are used. Bags are very personal and should be loaded as such, however there are some core items that should never change no matter the bags intention. Me personally I concentrate on the needs more than the wants, its easy to fill a bag with a bunch of stuff its harder to fill it with less and get by. The calculator is a nice touch lol, ive also thought about that but I've never seen anyone do it before 👍. Don't take this as negative criticism cuz its definitely not! Your doing a great job and your kit is well thought out, just be careful of internet recommendations lol people will have you carrying all kinds nonsense 🤣. Your commentors so far have good ideas and I would consider them if you haven't already, I have a video on my channel showing the latest iteration of my bag but even mine has changed since that video a year ago or so. I subscribed, looking forward to more videos on subjects like these 👍. Take care and stay safe....our world is changing quickly and not for the better, make every day count.....

@@kanzee5940 Cheers for showing us the bag mate, wasn't aware of those heroclips so thank you, they look really handy. Which cost me $100 canadian..for only the Bottle and Cup with a lid...no fishmouth opener, no Bottle bag in the set. Looks like a 5.11 bag. 24 or 72 model? Good contents; it should be a companion on your walks at least once a week. Very well done video, love the use of text to go along with what you are saying. Where did you get the fish mouth opener? All the ones I've seen are much longer, I like your size. BTW Hundreds (if not thousands) of Nova Scotians had to bug out recently for 1-2 weeks due to forest fires. Bugging out is not limited to some fantasy SHTF future. The need to bug out can happen while you are having lunch, or sleeping at 3am. Check that SOL survival sheet. I like their older USA products but I have one from 2008 and it split through many layers while still in the package unused. Now I open any outer package to check the actual blanket inside during the twice yearly check.
