I have to use different programs for drawing though I can't draw well, I think practice, watching which drawing tablet is good form drawing, and videos that will help you for your different drawing style makes a good effort. I can't draw well but I drew ever since I'm 7 or 8 on a tablet so I believe on you. :D

Have had my Wacom WX 12 for nearly 5 years and don't ever see myself replacing it. The modular nature of it just lends so well to repairs/damages. Sweet tablet doe!

Thanks for this. I watched this a while back when I went through an art craze. Since then, I stopped doing art because I felt like I started too late. Recently, I was talking to a friend, spilled my heart out a little, and mentioned that I felt like I started too late. I started drawing at 14. We're both 18 now, and he started 5 months ago, he said. His art was really good. This made me realize that there is no such thing as "starting too late". Now that I realize this, "starting too late" sounds stupid to me. I've been wanting to get a tablet since I realized that. I'm also a lefty.

As someone who has used both, I much prefer graphic tablets over screen tablets. I find that being able to fully see the screen while you draw is a huge bonus and something that I'd much rather have. Also being able to know the exact place that your cursor is is a lifesavor

Yes. After years of using a pen tablet, I've found that in screen tablets often the pen (which is not as thin as a regular pen) hides the cursor or it seems I need to tilt the pen a lot to feel comfortable.

Just get a mac mini, you could get Catalina and use sidecar. Sidecar is built into the OS and you can use your iPad as a drawing tablet/second display. I have done it with my iPad and it's really smooth and has minimal lag. Bonus: you can use it using wifi.

I love my xp pen 12 pro- it's my first screen tablet I've ever had, and it's amazing. Plus, customer support was great too! My pen was acting up, pressing the buttons that I had programmed onto it, or changing to eraser randomly, or making huge dots and loosing sensitivity. I talked to them, told them all my problems, and they sent me a new pen free of charge. Got to me within two days, and it changed everything. My old pen must have been buggy from the beginning, because I always had to deal with terrible sensitivity, but this new pen was like a dream. I couldn't be more happy, and I'll only get my tablets from xp pen in the future!

What is the screen texture of the innovator 16 like? Also, is it glass or plastic? I grew up drawing traditionally and I really value the rough feeling of paper and the ability to /feel/ the pressure I’m putting into my lines. I’ve had a huion gt-191 for about two years and the glassy screen drives me nuts, so recently I’ve really wanted to get a new tablet that doesn’t have this problem. There are screen protectors that can make it feel more like paper! (I haven't used one myself yet, but I think a matte screen protector is nice. (There may be more alternatives, but again, I haven't bought screen protectors yet, so I don't know much about them.))

I have a drawing tablet that I really like, I just don't have a desk. Is there a way to be comfortable while drawing on your bed?

If you sit cross legged, I recommend sitting on a pillow or something and elevating your butt a little. Taking short bursts of breaks to walk or run helps. Sitting like this is super comfy, for me at least, but it makes my knees hurt if I do it too much. Also switching up your position helps. Laying on your belly isn't very fun for your arms after a bit but it gives your spine and the rest of your body a nice break. If you can steal some cushions or layer up a lot of pillows, having a nice, soft corner to curl up in is one of the best places to be! I, personally, love drawing on the couch but it's in the living room, which means forgetting my art supplies where my siblings can get to them, my mom calling me to come do things, lots of distractions, the TV, etc. Also, I enjoy drawing and painting on the floor. If you can get an old sheet to lay down, that's best or you could just be REALLY careful. The floor is good because it gives me lots of room to change up my position often. Honestly one day I'd like to put up a hammock, but... what can ya do?? And of course, you could make an improvised desk out of boxes and some scrap wood, or honestly just boxes. If you have a chair, you could try putting something over the arm rests to draw on. And looking at pinterest for DIY desk ideas is worth a shot. You might find something cheap, small, and worthwhile. Maybe a mini-desk or drawing tray? Anyways, hope some of this was helpful or even made sense. Lots of love!!

My niece who will be turning 12 here soon is obsessed with drawing. She is extraordinarily talented. She has wanted a drawing tablet for years. But with the cost of a tablet and of a computer to hook it to. We(the whole family) haven't gotten her one yet. She uses her Samsung Galaxy Tablet and a free app to do what she can. I got her some stylus pens last Christmas, which have helped a lot. Idk if a screened drawing tablet or non screened type would be best for her. Obviously we would have to get her a computer too, to hook any drawing table to. Thanks for this video. It helped informing me what there is out there. I kinda think a screened tablet would probably be best, just because she'd be looking at what she was drawing as she was drawing it. Instead of looking at PC screen and drawing on a blank surface. Hey, I recently bought the deco mini7, and I'm having a problem with my pen! Everytime I try to quickly draw a curving line, it becomes really shaky even though my hand isnt shaking at all If someone can help me with this that would be amazing, thanks! Edit: it was actually the program I was using, I switched it and it was fine!

Hey LavenderTowne! I have been watching your videos for a few years and I just want to say that you have come so far in the quality of your art. I mean you were good when you started but now your lines are a lot cleaner, you are using more advanced tools in photoshop, and I can tell your shading has even improved. Remember when you used the fill tool to block in colors? I remember the video where you talked about how you fixed the white pixels that resulted. You are awesome, keep working hard!

just in case you were skeptical about her praise on the brand because this video is sponsored. I bought an xp pen artist 12 and it's actually extremely solid piece of equipment. I've had a few software issues with it but customer support was really fast with helping me for that. They also have an official beta driver for linux which is more than what huion has. With the price point I would definitely recommend

i use an XP-Pen and i love it!!! it tends to be pretty fragile, as in you absolutely cannot drop it (of course), the wire cant bend too much, you can’t accidentally hit it too much, etc.. otherwise it’ll get iffy also i wish my tablet had a taller stand :/ i have to stack some game cases or books to keep it taller besides that, its been a little over a year and im in love, super affordable and works great :D would recommend as a beginner screen tablet

I'm so glad drawing tablet companies are becoming bigger and competing with Wacom. Like, I orginally started with an Intuos gen 2, which was good for a beginner except for the price. I dropped $100 usd on that and I swear it was not worth it for the size and pen pressure. Now I use a Huion Inspiroy, which is twice the size, and I paid half the price. It has even double the pen pressure, and a stand for my pen (which doesn't require a charger). It has way more programmable buttons. Its basically a Wacom Intuos Pro, but cheaper. And looking at the prices for XP-Pen screen tablets, I'm actually excited to see then at a reasonable price, instead of the $1000 - $2000 usd that Wacom is.

I just purchased the Wacom Cintique 22in model, and I got to say, it's one of the best purchases I've made for my business and personal use. There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to upgrade from my Intuos Pro to another Wacom product as they not only last a very long time but are high-quality products. I've never had a Wacom stop working on me, I've only ever outgrown their models. Honestly, if you are a beginner I don't recommend starting off with a screen tablet. An Intuos model is a great buy that you can grow into. Yes, they can run up to $250-390 depending on the size but if you take into account that it can last you 5+ years, it is well worth the initial start-up cost. Keep reading if you want to hear my Wacom story from the last 15 years. I've been using drawing tablets for more than half of my life. I started using them when I was around 11-12, my first tablet (that I can recall) was a small Wacom Bamboo that I had for about 5 years. After that I went to a larger model, that was the biggest mistake I made. Because this came out of my own pocket I went for a less expensive brand thinking I was getting a great deal, but what I ended up getting was a cheap machine that I quickly outgrew and stopped working after only *A YEAR*. I went back and purchased a step up from the bamboo at the time but only used it for a year before starting college. Because I was in the animation program, my school provided us all Wacom Intuos Pro tablets, which became my main go-to for school and work purposes. I ended up switching majors because I wanted to learn traditional 2D animation and the program was mostly 3D focused. At that point in my life, I had zero experience working 3D so I switched to a Graphic Design Science Major. No idea if I would have been given a tablet or different model, but I didn't ask and stuck with the Intuos Pro. I had this tablet from the time I was 19 till I was 25 (still have and use as my traveling tablet but needs a new ion battery). I finally bit the bullet and purchased the Wacom Cintique which would be my first screen tablet, $1200 was well worth the price of this machine. I fell in love with it within a day of using it (by the way, works just fine with OS Catalina, not sure what Lavender was talking about with hers not being compatible). It's sturdy and I tend to lean into my desk so I'm happy the stand is so solid and can take my weight ( *starts sweating* no offense but that XP stand looks like a flimsy piece of plastic I'd snap in two on day one) but keep in mind that I'm not that heavy, so not sure how that would hold up for people who weigh more than 120lb. The texture of the screen makes my fingers happy and I can't tell you how much of a difference watching my hands move has had on implementing more traditional techniques. At this point, I'm married to the Wacom brand and don't think I'd ever use another brand's tablet, nor would I suggest them to a beginner. Especially items coming from China that pump so much $$$ into paying youtubers to rave about their products, while turning off their comment sections and like/dislike ratio. I let the products speak for themselves when it comes to quality. I've never met another professional artist in person who has switched over from Wacom and never came back. All in all, if you like the product, go for it. I just can't in good consciousness recommend stuff I've never used or have had experience with personally or through other irl people/work. Wacom has been a solid brand since the 80's and there is a reason why it has been recommended by both teachers and students alike from all ages and experience levels. Tablets are not cheap, especially good quality ones. Would you rather buy a cheap pair of shoes that wear out every 6 months? Or drop more on a pair that will last you years to come?

I actually got the Innovator 16 when it came out. I LOVE IT. Its the perfect size for the space I have right now. When I have a bigger space down the line I might gravitate to the 24 in Artiste Pro but for now this is perfecttttt.

A no screen onenis better for starters!! I had mine for like, 5+ years (intous) and it was fine, but now I have finilly upgraded to a screen one. It arrived just yesterday!!! Looking foward to test it and hoping to spend many many years with it.
