Thank you for this! I used to see in high school, but lost the time and information I used to have. I bought a sewing machine a few years ago and was so mad at myself for not even remembering have to use it, that I set it in the closet and I just continue to hand fix small things and not even try. After you posted this, I am I going to bust it out now and re start doing things! Reminded everything I had forgot about the basics!

I mostly need to know how to use a sewing machine because hand sewing can be time consuming on bigger or longer projects.

This has been the single most helpful video I’ve watched. Thank you for clear, concise explanations and demonstrations of the basics that are completely new to this 56 year old dude who’s decided to try his hand at sewing. I can join wood, weld metal, solder electronics, and 3D print plastic but when it comes to fabric I’m limited to hem tape so I figured it’s time to add to my skill set. I’m having a blast learning to sew, plus it‘s reason to buy even more tools! 🤣

When I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer cause if u watched my little pony rarity inspired me lol I'd watch her open her own boutique and just design these gorgeous outfits and I wanted to be like her. I'd get that feeling and it was my dream. I was very crafty and I'd get my room messy with making dresses, coats, pants, shirts and all sorts for my dolls out of anything, tissue, paper, sugar paper and such. I don't know if I have that same feeling now but I'd like to try it out as a side hustle designing things for others.

Thank you April. A couple things I have learned: Watch your fabric, not your needle. The needle isn't going anywhere but up and down, so if you watch where you are guiding the fabric edge you can sew straighter. If you pull your fabric as you are sewing you could make the needle bend or bow and break the needle (flying needle pieces, ouch) or knock your machine out of align ($$$).

Thank you! Finally know the name for a Seam Ripper. At home mum was always looking for her 'quick unpick' and would constantly rethread the needle for me. Your tutorial bought back lovely memories and thought me a lot! Perfect 👌

And i just got one for the Easter and it arrived 2 days ago.. So excited!! Thank you for all the tips and work... (i never really write comments but this was too good not to share)

Can you make some tutorials for intermidiate sewers like how to sew darts or how to hem the edge of fabric and what stitch to use to give a t-shirt look? 😄 Love ur vids most or them are really advanced tho

Thank you so much for this video!!! I remember my grandmother fondly sewing clothes for me when I was a little kid. One of my biggest regrets is not asking her to teach me how to sew. She died in 2012 and she was not functional since like 2008. I’ve held onto her sewing machine and I’m just now whipping it out to try to use for the first time, in 2023. Your video really was perfect for me, a total noob. It was so informative and I loved the examples showing what happens when you make a wrong move. I’m also well aware now of what accessories are missing and that I’ll need to go pick up before I really start practicing. Thank you again!

Next video common signs of something is wrong while sewing. I wish I knew why my machine sews stiches that I can still scrunch the fabric. Is it me, the thread, machine setting, bobbin, all of the above? Do you have an affiliate link for the fabric clips?

Lydia, when you thread your machine always put the pressure foot in the up pos before you thread the machine otherwise the thread won’t go between the pressure discs. If you don’t put the foot up before threading the sewing machine will act up and make a nest of fabric or sew wonky!
@lydiak.1254
@lydiak.1254 4 жыл бұрын
@@kelleyamador8838 I'll try that. I think I always had the foot down since the last step was to thread through the needle and it was easier to get the thread through with the foot down.

Thanks April! I’ve inherited both my mothers and my grandmothers sewing machines, but without them to help me learn how to use it I’ve just become frustrated when something went wrong. This is great. Another video that would be amazing is how to fix common problems, or at least «promblemshooting» to find pjt what went wrong. my thread just came out in a tangles mess and I’m not sure why. Thanks again, lots of love xx

Everyone has to start somewhere. No one becomes an expert over night. When I took my first welding class, I was the worst one, and was far behind. But by the 4th week I was ahead of everyone else and doing the most advanced welds. Same thing with make up, I was really really bad at it but after a few months of practice I got pretty good. If you REALLY want to be good at it and you keep at it you will get better

I've always had a knack for fashion and I have so many ideas, I know the basics of fashion design like sketching, fabric choices, structure, etc but I've only ever sewed when I was little with this plastic sewing machine I'm currently 13 years old and almost my entire family sews as a profession or hobby you can say it's in my blood. My mom has helped me with basics like threading my machine since it is an old and used machine and has special "techniques" and processes for threading. This video helped get into more detail and give a thorough explanation so thank you!!! :)))))
