I am planning on using a composition notebook for 2021. I have a small monthly calendar from Dollar Tree that I am pasting onto the first page for each month. I am following a lot of what you have in this video, but it looks like I may adapt some of the ideas. The sticky note is excellent. I am also considering using a 5x7 three ring loose leaf binder. Currently using one for the remainder of this year. I have purchased from Office Depot their calendar system with the monthly and weekly system. Just didn't work for me. I need more space for notes. It is truly a work in progress for me.

I absolutely love love loved this! Not everyone can afford to spend crazy amounts of money on a bullet journal. It's nice to see that you made it accessible for everyone! People can literally pick a notebook of some sort like this up at the Dollar Tree, along with their pen(s). To me, it's definitely not about the most expensive or greatest quality. Your descriptions and explanations were on point! It's so basic, yet thorough, and can get ANYONE started! I can also appreciate the no "frills" without stickers, doodles, etc. It's fine if people want to add that in later on, but again, this gets people started! Your bullet journal tutorial will most certainly help so many people focus on their tasks at hand. Very well done, thank you so much for sharing. Cheers! 😁👍🏻📖✍🏼

Fun fact: The future log is for the FUTURE! Sooooo... If your bujo starts with January, your future logs start with February... The future! There's no reason to write January stuff in a January future log. Just write them on your January monthly. ... If instead of migrating the task: sending your cards, to February, you wanted to migrate them to January 15th, you wouldn't migrate them to the January future log, you'd migrate them directly to the January monthly calendar. ❤🌅🌵😷

@suzisaintjames 3 жыл бұрын
@@dobycorder3206, a lot of people are starting new journals in July... If you started your last bujo's future log in February and still made 6 months worth of future logs... They would go February through July. So if you had things to add at the end of the current month, those events can go in your old bujo's July future log. Because your new bujo's future logs would run: August through January.💖🌞🌵😷

Wow, this requires a bag of pendant. It’s the re-writing that gets me! Or the size? An A3 planner for a week, which gets reused for two, and a freeform notebook of what I do rather than what I can come up with to do (which is hundreds long). There are routines that are maintained elsewhere to save rewriting. My brain seems to think if I wrote it I did it!

@@markyourpages I appreciated your straight forward approach In explaining. This video helped me understand that planning is a lot like organising. People have very different styles. And I also think these work differently in different circumstances. I usually am an extreme planner (as a professional project planner), however, this A3 planner approach seems to work extremely well. Like an “Agile Sprint.” And then the focus is on getting things done. I learned the focus from another project planner. His entire focus was just, write what’s done 100%. No progress meetings! Rewriting things daily reminds me of progress meetings. Perhaps some people focus more on tasks they rarely rewrite.

I just want to say 2 things and one is a question: first, in the method, the diary registries aren’t registered in the index (imagine register there where are all the days of the year 😮, well you can do what you want too 😂) and the second, what do you do with the tasks that don’t have a date and you don’t know when you can do them?
@markyourpages
@markyourpages Жыл бұрын
Hi there. You are absolutely right about the days / weeks not being in the index. I’ve come to add them since I personally reference the weeks for how I work, and it definitely adds up in the index, no doubt. For the things you need to do but don’t know when, I’ve found that if they come up in my Future log and I’m still not ready, I’ll bump them ahead a little. You could also create a collection page of the no time like tasks and notes, and maybe get a burst of productivity and tackle them one at a time.

Nicely done video. I have tried BUJO off and on, and one of the things that always "broke my brain" were having collections interspersed throughout the journal instead of a separate section (as you would do with a binder with dividers etc etc). But I think the thing that you touch on (around 21:00) that is really important is the fact that you have to daily engage with and practice the bujo method. If you can build that habit then I think it works. And I think that Carroll talks about this some as well -- the idea of "reflecting upon your priorities" and thus figuring out what is truly important to you. Anyway, I think I will give it another try -- thanks for the inspiration. Oh and the other thing I really appreciate is the simple notebook no frills approach that you illustrated. Frankly I've seen enough illustrative, scrap bookie bujos to last me a lifetime. So this was refreshing... :-)

Thanks for the video! I've never really gotten into the traditional way of bujo, because it was just too hard to remember another secret language. I tend to do lots of short-form journaling now, and just quick pages to track things I learned, successes for the day, etc. I'm more of a "record it" kind of person than a "plan it" kind of person - because I never remember to use my books (that's why I'm trying new formats all the time like the one-line methods lol). It's sometimes easier to just lay it all out rather than use codes (for me anyway). Also, I love all your videos, but is there any way you could add captions? I have hearing issues sometimes and it's better to mute the video but read along as you go. I'm pretty sure KZbin can do auto-captioning for you.

THANK YOOOOOUUU!!!!! This was the BEST intro into bullet journaling! Why? Because it basically follows Ryder Carroll's concept and takes you step-by-step through the process. Other people give an overview without the step-by-step. And others still, do their little tweaks, such as OMITTING the Future Log altogether if you can believe it! (How do they migrate BACK, without a Future Log!??) The BIGGEST frustration with OTHER videos is when people turn journaling into "scrapbooking"!! (Talk about being ADD!!!) I've passed this video/info on to one of my FEMALE friends! ;-)

@@4kassis most of your work is going to happen in your daily log / weekly log. The only things that will go to your future log will be anything that you need to plan ahead for. With all the other bullet journal videos I've watched I've been on the fence, thinking "Hummmm, that might work." Your video left me thinking "Okay, it will work ... time to get started." I've used steno notebooks for note taking at work for years. But there's no organization to them and I often find myself flipping through one trying to find something I know I jotted down. Behold the power of an index! Though to me, the index looks more like a table of contents. Indices are usually in the back of books, and are usually in alphabetical order.
@markyourpages
@markyourpages Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out. The index is an ongoing table of contents. Let’s call it what it is. But you use this to reference the topics you need like a traditional index just on the front since you don’t really know where you’d fine certain things in your notebook until it’s there. Wishing you luck with making it happen for yourself. Sounds like you have a good system already. Just tweaks to make it better.

So, just to be clear...you don't pre-create a slot for every day of the month in advance (because you don't know how much space each day will need)?. Everything beyond today is put in the Future Log?
@markyourpages
@markyourpages 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, in the true to form method, you don't pre create every day of the month. It's mostly handled in your monthly overview or future log. BUT... you can always take on the method how you need to. For example, I use a weekly overview to catch my weekly to-dos because I use my a lot for work, and I like that overview of the week.

Hello Mark! Super great video to introduce bullet journaling. I had been teeter-tottering for a number of months now primarily because I am not yet ready to commit to the expense of a formal dotted/grid-lined journal (compared to the cost of a regular notebook). This video explaining how-to bullet journal in a regular lined notebook was the clincher for me! Your video is what gave me the push i needed to get going, to find a suitable notebook and put pen to paper. Literally! ;^) I was VERY excited to see in images that it's possible to bullet journal WITHOUT the cutesy art (which I *DO* LUV! Sigh...). Loved how you are "dating yourself" with the phrase '...migrate 'Back to the Future'... Haha! :-D Truth: I LUV the displays of art in the (VERY) creative journal pages seen on just about every social media platform, but alas I don't have the time, the patience, and mostly, the talent to re-create them. I am quite a bit a scatter brain. I tend to have notes jotted down EV-ER-Y-WHERE: on pieces of scrap paper, on the back of receipts laying on the kitchen table, in notebooks (?!), on my phone, in my iCal.... Not one of these "system" has ever made me organized. Or productive, for that matter.... While my brain holds a phenomenal amount of information (i still remember the plate number from my first car 25 years and 5 cross-country moves ago! Now, how useful is *that* in Life??!), i tend to be forgetful. Events like birthdays and Christmas.... tend to creep up on me :-/ I have high hopes that adopting this simple system will help me stay organized. I thank you , Sir, for uploading! Keep on keeping on.

Great video. I'm glad I came across this, because I was considering going back to a day timer style notebook which is a bit too rigid. Already got started in a simple notebook. One question I have: what do you do about tasks that you want to push out to a specific date - say a week from today? In daytimer land, you just flip to that day's page and write it in. It looks like the month page would be a good spot, but space is pretty limited if you only have 1 line per day.
@markyourpages
@markyourpages Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. Your question is a good one. In some cases I have created a signifier to use to let me know that this is for next week an to migrate it when i take my others tasks for a specific day. Some people will use the monthly page to do that, but like you mentioned, in some cases you have a line to use and might not be enough space. I've also found making a small box or callout on my pages for "Next week" and it's been helpful.
