Disclaimer: in no shape or form is Frozen Orb ever better than Blizzard. As a hybrid or single element build, for the exact same amount of skill points invested Blizz will always do more damage. Due to how the spells work, FO is bad against large groups of tanky monsters like cows. Where Blizz excels at killing large groups of large mobs or single big targets like the act bosses, it’s not as good at hitting smaller targets, but still dishes out more raw damage than FO. Blizz costs one less point to get to and has more synergies on the way. I did testing and unless they rebalance things, choosing FO over Blizz is choosing the worse option.

Things blizzard can/can't do : kills monster tightly packed while doing overkill damage but, it's very difficult to kill single randomly walking monsters (even stationary monster feels randomly hard to hit) Things FO can/can't do : faster at, a 100%, clrearing area which will be more interesting now that we have terrorized zone. Since FO can aim, it's more efficient against single target (boss farming). While it's not doing aoe damage like blizzard, it still covers larger portion of the screen. FO can be fully synergized with energy shield which is an absolute blast ; not having to pots, EVER !! What FO struggle/shouldn't do : cows. . . For all these reason, gameplay wise, FO is hands down the way to go, now and even before resurected.

@@818twn lol you’re totally putting the cart before the horse. For bosses, regardless of aiming - which is not an issue in this case especially because they are literally the biggest targets in the game - Blizz does more flat damage. No ifs or buts. Secondly, you can still max ES with Blizz. You don’t have to max out all of Blizz synergies. Say you max out Blizz + Ice Bolt + CM, that will result in a superior damage over FO + Ice Bolt + CM. In NM, FO is fun and strong, but in Hell the AOE damage of FO is symbolic at best, so it’s neither good for a single target or density clearing. Unless it’s that final zombie in the Den of Evil…

So I've used Occy on HC as a switch with like rhyme shield for bosses and early on to get +3 skill for buffing before I get cta. Otherwise it's skeeeeetch

i still have questions about the sundercharm/merc part.. if i got a sunder charm, is it still worth to go infinity? (is the dmg increase huge or just a little bit? or is it needed to break every cold immunity?) or if i go insight for like infinity mana do i still have some cold immunitys to encounter?

its been 20+ years since i played d2 and i am so confused by this build, it says i should begin maxing out frozen orb, but i get frozen orb at lvl 30, so should i just not click anything into anything else for 30 beginning levels?

Hey man I’m glad you like the content. I do accept criticism for sure, but in this case I think I’m missing the point of what you’re trying to say. I have a “starter variant”, I mentioned in the beginning that you can even go hydra hybrid if you wanted that dual element. It’s also a Cold Sorceress, I don’t understand how it isn’t a best starter. Is it because it’s a level 30 skill?

@@SpectralNebulah Yes I am for real. And you are either dumb or did not watch the video, and your method of communication is not acceptable. Do you speak to strangers like this? In the case you are a bit new to the game (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt of being new instead of being a noob), a full cold sorc (either blizzard or orb) can solo the entire game and start farming most high value targets/areas *faster than any other build in the game*. BTNeanderthal kindly suggests a very budget, easy to get and good starting gear setup. There is only 1 cold immune monster in the entire game that you *have* to kill to progress, and that is Lord De Seis. He can easily be dealt with by killing his guards and putting him in FHR lock with telekinesis spam while your merc kills him. And if you just want to start farming Meph asap you can even skip act 4. Skip den of evil, you don't need that 1 skill point to start farming. You can do it later when you have gear and are level 80 or so. There is a reason why the Diablo 2 speedrun world record is a, you guessed it, single element cold sorc. Because single element cold sorcs are the fastest spec at finishing the game, so they're also the fastest spec to start farming hell with. Thank me for the free advice for ladder reset.

A garbages gear FO/hydra can clear a lot of the the early terror zones with ease. Great option until you get a sunder charm imo.
