My, what a rabbit hole this video led me down to. This is definitely a much better investment than a handheld console since I can easily "upgrade" my hardware whenever I need to. Phones and tablets are definitely the future of handheld consoles.

Point of information. Tencent (COD mobile devs) have patched out this type of controller pass through. You can still play it with a controller but it must be blue tooth. Which I get it. They dont want me running over touch screen people with this thing, but its still sad. :(

I'd recommend the kishi over this, if not just for the price But using your phone for gaming, grabbing a gamepass subscription to get access to PC games, it's actually a lovely deal! Even with my unhealthy love for the steam deck, I have 0 issues recommending a phone controller and game pass for those that don't have hundreds of looneys to spend on hardware and games.

To anyone reading this, avoid the kishi and the backbone. Gamesir X2 Pro or Gamesir G8 Galileo are still probably your best choices. Why? They use sticks that are closer to an actual controller than the joycon like sticks that the backbone and kishi use. The G8 Galileo blows both out of the water in ergonomics, buttons, and sticks (except the d-pad) and has better pricing (unless you find them on sale)

I did exactly this with a Standard Gamesir X2 and my old BlackShark 2. Emulating all the way up to Ps2 has been a blast and streaming is great too. Nothing comes close unless you pay up for a Steam Deck.

I don't know about this one, but GameSir controllers were recommended to me by a DIY emulator console kit I bought. I tried a couple and they were actually quite good for a very low price compared to other after market controllers, I can't remember the model I bought but it was their Dualshock 4 knockoff. They worked great. I bought my youngest the M4 mini for his tablet and Switch gaming and I've been really impressed by how well it works and how good it feels - even in larger hands.

I was about to say something similar. The button and thumbsticks layout of the Steam Deck may look weird, but they are super comfortable and premium, compared to the Switch type layout, which tend to cramp hands after awhile. And the Deck also has gryo abilities. Not sure if the Gamesir X2 Pro has that. And with the Vibrant Deck mod to increase saturation, it gives it an Oled type experience.
@kratos2105

In order to appreciate the deck you must first own it, I’ve been playing this thing more than my PS5 due to how comfortable and well rounded it is.
@GreenLeefMusic

@@CyberClu @CyberClu Gamesir X2 Pro does not have Gyro. But that may be possible via the phone itself. I own this controller & a Steam Deck and hands down the Steam Deck is a much better experience, even without having my 1440P OLED phone screen. The X2 Pro is more comfortable than a Switch but not more comfortable than a Steam Deck. It is just more cramped in general and missing all of those QOL features, plus cloud gaming is not for everyone.

The advantage of this is that, if your PC is strong enough, surpassing a steam deck you're basically golden, you can even connect to a tablet (bigger screen) + a wireless controller. The disadvantage is that this is a HOME ONLY remedy. I am still thinking to get a hand held just for the vibes, Pocket 4/4 Pro looks good along with the RG35XX H. One of them would do, Odin 2 would be just like a steam deck in this instance and besides the extra portability of the Odin 2 if you just wanna use it at home, then the steamlink combo will do better. Or even better, Odin 2 + steamlink xD

And this is not only about my specific unit. A proper company would solve that with an update, but not Gamesir... or maybe they did, but to see if, you would have to install their app, where you can tell all of your personal communication details to the Chinese governmemt directly. Their devices are great, I still miss that thing. But never would I buy another one.

Same conclusion. Gaming PC (6600xt, 24gb ram, 5600x, 2k monitor) that runs everything perfectly fine. I work remote and don't game on the go. Wanted to get a steam deck but couldn't justify it. Have the og steam link for the living room TV, a razor kishi phone controller and it does everything a steam deck can do - even better at times. My latency isn't noticeable and with the additional pixel density on my phone, it looks even better than the SD.

tl;dr: home: 500mb/s fiber -> router -> cat6 -> PC/Steamlink work: 500mb/s fiber ->router -> 5GHz wifi -> Android/Steamlink Works very well. Finished all Resident Evil remake games, Hades multiple times (requires fast inputs), played some God of War before I got bored, Diablo 4 works perfectly, and many others. Don't know about FPS games.. For the life of me I can't bring myself to play online FPS with a controller.. Anyway, it doesn't matter the game, what matters is the input lag, and it's honestly very little noticeable.. You can also stream movies in Desktop Mode with very little compression/loss in bitrate. It works really well if you want an easy solution and can't open ports on the server-side for whatever reason. A good WiFi connection or 5G on your phone should probably be enough if your PC is connected to a fast connection imho.. I mean Steamlink caps out at max 100mb/s anyway, locally or remotely, so anything above 100mb/s on both sides should be enough if the distance isn't too big and the latency goes up to high. Like, playing from another country could be a hard sell.. Other than that you're probably good.. I've only ever tried at work though.. Also, running AnyDesk/TeamViewer on PC startup is good if you're gonna be gone a while and don't wanna worry about Steam crashing for whatever reason before you get back home.. _________________________________________________ I play Steamdeck from home to work no problem. Maybe a little delay, but nothing that really matters unless you're playing Street Fighter competitively. I connected my phone to a TV at work with a USB-C to a small hub with a few USB connections, charging port and a HDMI output. So I have a wireless keyboard and mouse connected with a dongle in two USB ports for Desktop Mode, passthrough charging for the phone, and HDMI display on the TV so the screen clones/starts Samsung Dex. Then I connected my Xbox controller through Bluetooth directly to the phone and played the Resident Evil remake games, Hades and God of War at work on the TV.. No problems.. Although I'll admit when I started playing Hades at home again I noticed a difference in the input-lag, but not much. I also stream movies through Steamlink, just go into Desktop Mode and open your files. It's great if you can't open your ports for whatever reason and/or can't get programs like Plex to work properly without compression. Just make sure you pair your phone with Steam while you're on the same network the first (and only) time.. After that you can connect to your PC from anywhere without having to ever open any ports or pair again (unless you get a new phone) or anything like that.. I have Steam as autorun when my computer boots but I also have AnyDesk running, so if Steam is closed or has crashed or updates or anything weird that makes it so I can't connect, I'll connect using AnyDesk and just restart Steam or reboot my computer again.. Then it works.. Happened like once so it's probably not necessary, but could be smart if you're gonna be gone a while and wanna make sure your PC is available if something should happen with Steam while you're gone..

Good morning! I hope today is a good one for you. Very nifty video/product. I've got an Xbox branded kishi v1 and it is a bit cheaper but doesn't seem nearly as nice as this (no screen mapper, and more flimsy). I thought I would use it more, but it was more like a gateway to wanting a handheld. I think the big limiter for me was that I didn't want to risk messing up my primary phone, and it doesn't have a micro-sd card slot, so I didn't want to fill it up with games. I'm one of those wackos who got, and loves, the Logitech Cloud. It isn't NEARLY as powerful as my S21, but the screen and controls are a delight. And it has worked great for all of the games I've wanted to play so far.

My only issue is, the 90s and 2000s have spoiled me in what I consider "portable gaming". If the device can't just slip in and out of my pocket as is without fear of it bending or breaking, or requires any physical setup besides one simple plug in (like a controller into a console, or a device onto a charging cable), it just isn't for me. That and my freaking Galaxy S9's battery dies after two hours of regular use, I can't imagine it lasting more than thirty minutes actually gaming/streaming on it. That's what my cute little Galaxy A7 TAB-lite is for! I just flip it open and use RetroArch or Steam Remote Play, it's neat. But also not pocketable.

Huh guess this is similar too the Razer Kishi ? Might be exactly the same just rebranded too be a Razer product, specially the v2 kishi... With the Kishi v1 the major issue was a lack of an app too rebind controls & stuff but there's third party ones like mantis gamepad pro which is free, probably works for the gamesir one too. A website in Sweden has it on sale for 549 sek or 53$ while the gamesir x2 pro is 899 sek or 87 usd here bit of a hard pill for me too swallow for now without a job + I'd rarely use this anyway. Kishi V2 seems too allow touch only games just fine as well but costs more then the gamesir x2 pro does on the same website.

The Kishi v2 looks like a great device. Plus that one is officially supported in games like Warzone (I think, don't quote me on that).

@@TechDweeb Yeah i wouldn't worry much about that personally. Mostly PS1, Sega genesis, snes, gba, gb, gbc emulation & steam remote play id be interested in. Maybe some ports of game engines like RVGL for Re-volt, Xash3d for half-life 1 etc... at the top of my head here at least. Not in a hurry too set that up though having rebuilt my pc not too long ago.

It's better depending on your use case. I just bought one. So I'm not in a position where I need a full stand alone device that can play AAA games with no internet. BUT I do enjoy playing games in bed now and then. Also for when I'm on the road or on a plane. Local Low end games or retro games are perfectly fine to play for a max of a couple of hours. It's the same reason I sold my Switch. It was almost never mobile and just turned into a youtube machine. Looking forward to playing RE4 remake in bed. Lights off. Cozy mode. But if you're never home and want to AAA obviously the Deck is better

I have been using this setup for months, and I have been loving my Gamesir x-2 experience with my Note 20 Ultra. It feels like a premium experience until the phone rings and all the notifications start popping in. That is the one major downside of using your phone as a gaming device. It still does phone things. I use my Ambernic double x when i just need to be offline, but that is a $60 experience (which isn't bad), vs. the power of a full-blown Snapdragon processor's ability to play PS2 games locally.

calling it "better" is a bit of a stretch, but yeah can't deny the huge difference in price, so it's still quite a well viable option for those who can't afford a Steam Deck, and if you can't afford the X2 Pro there's the regular X2 for about $40, or an even cheaper option in the BSP D8, yeah that one is bluetooth, but it has pretty good latency and has hall effect sticks and triggers as well, also lotta compatibility with different platforms, playstation, switch, xbox, PC and phone ALSO DISCLAIMER THAT WILL BE REALLY USEFUL: Steam Link only requires the phone and PC to be on the same network for the first setup, once that's done, you can get out and play from anywhere, I tried out disconnecting my phone from the Wi-Fi, test out on data and it worked just as well as it does on the same Wi-Fi

I have the gamesir, Samsung Galaxy Fold 4, and a Steam Deck. First off, smart phones are pretty much limited to emulating other handhelds and pre-playstation hardware. You can get some Playstation games to load, but it's not a very playable experience. The Steam Deck can emulate pretty much everything, including many Switch titles. (Pro-tip if you still want a gamesir and have a folding phone: Get the model with the C-input on the left side of the controller, instead of to the right.) Secondly, smart phone game streaming is heavily reliant on a wifi connection and it *needs* a good one. Another person watching Netflix on the same network can completely ruin your game experience, especially with GeForce Now. The Steam Deck has none of these limitations. It can play Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, etc wherever you want. Third, most people don't want to run power hungry games on a device that they need to make it through the entire day. While a lot of people do carry a charger/battery bank with them, most people will be annoyed if they actually have to plug their phone into it. Having a separate device is more convenient. (The Steam Deck does have a notoriously short battery life at around 1-2 hours, but I've never been in a situation where I was using the Deck for more than 30 minutes and didn't have some kind of plug in available. Unlike a phone, you are considerably less mobile when using a Steam Deck and it's not something you need to bring with you around a building once you've put your bag down.) Fourth, the Steam Deck isn't competing with your phone. It *really* doesn't have to. To put things into perspective, phone processors performance are measured in *giga*flops and the Steam Deck's APU performance is measured in *tera*flops. You're essentially arguing that the Flintstone mobile is a better option than the Toyota Corolla.

True, but larger phones aren't that much smaller than the deck, and you get ultrawide with a phone which you don't get with a deck (whether or not that is important to you depends on your preferences). And I don't have good wifi. Just a normal middle-of-the-road router. As long as you have 5ghz wifi you'll be good.

Good morning :-) Not to convince you one way or the other, but just in case streaming is something you want to try down the road. It helps a LOT if you can get your computer on a wired network. That way the handheld and the computer aren't competing for the radio on your wifi. I am a network engineer, with super expensive wifi, and still, the best advice I can give is to use a wire whenever possible.

I bought an x2 pro recently and am so impressed! I'm mostly interested in ps2 emulation (I like my miyoo mini plus for everything less intensive) but the game pass ultimate is such a cool novelty. The app is sketchy though. Why does a controller app need GPS access? Luckily you can reject permissions a few times and there's a 'skip' option
@TechDweeb
@TechDweeb 11 ай бұрын
Yeah who knows about the sketchy app. I assume if there were any red flags we'd have heard about them. Gamesir wants to sell products, I don't think it'd be worth it for them to get scammy with their app. But you can totally use it without the app, it works fine, the app is just for using their version of a screen mapper, and there are other 3rd party tools for that that work with this controller AFIK.

My only issue with using my phone this way is it cuts into my phones battery life. Other than that (and the notification interruptions), you're right, it's a pretty good alternative.
