I watched Joel Osteen every week for years, listened when I couldn’t watch, and have read a few of his books. Then I just started feeling like something wasn’t right so I prayed for God to show me His truth in His words and guide me to others that taught what I needed to learn, all of the sudden I just lost interest in JO and any book I tried to order just wouldn’t come through-for different reasons, but they just wouldn’t “order” correctly. It’s now been about 6 months and as I’m watching this video I am in shock bc God has such amazing ways to work things out and not let things work out in our lives when we’ve asked Him to show us His way! 🙏♥️

Just out of curiosity, what was the first thing that didn't "feel right"? For me, I start to suspect that when churches and followings get THAT big, it starts to become more of a business kind of thing. Apart from the "flipping tables" passages, I tend to become a bit more suspicious of people who want to sell me something.

@TinkerBell-bt6vu2 жыл бұрын
@@nlarson8217 hello brother. Unfortunately Joye Meyer and Joel Osteen teach in very similar ways. They are both part of the new age "Word of Faith" movement that has been seeping into the church. They are both deceiving Christians and teaching them very unbiblical ideas about our Lord and Savior. They claim to be a Christian but they do not teach biblically and are leading so many people astray. If you see problems with Joel Osteen then you should notice the same patterns in the teachings of Joyce Meyer. Have you ever heard either Osteen or Joyce Meyer talk about sin and the problem of sin in our lives, and repentance and the need for us to take up our cross everyday and follow Jesus? Basically the kind of Christianity they teach is more motivational speaking rather than actual biblical Theology and Christianity. If they would call themselves Christian Motivational Speakers then that would be one thing and maybe that would be better, but they call themselves "pastors" and that is a huge problem. Also another problem is that they twist the gospel in sooooo many ways. The things they teach SOUND biblical on the surface but when you really dig into the Theology you can see that it is not biblical at all. And we have to be very discerning because even the enemy quotes scripture. Yet when the enemy quotes scripture in the Bible (see the temptations of Jesus) he quotes qctual Bible verses from the OT when speaking to Jesus in the desert, yet he takes it co.pmetely oit of context, thus changing g the foundational meaning of the verse. And that is what Osteen and Meyer do. It is very dangerous to our relationship with God. If you would like to talk about this more I would be happy to! God bless you

Two men went up to church to worship. One man stood out in the open, and lifting his voice to heaven declared "oh God, I AM so grateful that I AM better than other men, even this man with low self-esteem over here." But the other man, who sat alone by himself in the corner, would not so much as open his eyes, but wept and prayed "oh God, be merciful to me, a sinner!" I tell you, truly, this second man went back home justified before God.

As I started to seek the Lord and my hunger for Him and HIS word grew. Joel's feel good messages were no longer deep enough for my soul. I needed more. The Word of God says "12:You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13:For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14:Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong. Hebrews 5:12-14 For me, I began to understand that Joel's preaching wasn't teaching me spiritually maturity. As Christians, at some point in our walk we need to move from being babies drinking milk to maturity, eating solid food. The entire word of God will get us there. It is our spiritual food. God bless.

In order TO GET SAVED you must believe in the Gospel, which is: -That Christ died for your sins, according to the scriptures -Was buried -And rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Cor 15:1-4) Other versus to help support the message of the gospel. Rom 1:16; 2:16 1 Thess 4:13 1 Cor 1:17; Eph 1:13; Gal 1: 6-9; 2 Thess 1:6-8; 2 Cor 4:3-4 Eph 3:1-7 The list goes on and on. Don’t believe the words I tell you, but read and believe God’s word. By just saying I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior is neglecting that Christ died on the cross for you. By believing in the gospel, your now placed in the body of Christ, which Christ is the head and “LORD” over, not just the church only but Lord over all things. He is NOW your “SAVIOR” because He died for your sins and saved you from condemnation and eternal death. Again follow and read the versus’s and let God guide you to victory. Remember to TEST ALL THINGS (including myself) and hold on to that which is true (1 Thess 5:21). Read the scriptures and get understanding and then set your heart on it. See you soon... love you so very much:)

Honestly, this is something that I struggle with a bit. Along the same lines, I also have to believe that people follow and get misled by cult leaders for a reason too. Not everyone gets out or gets the opportunity to realize that they've been misled. To go along with this, I also have trouble thinking about the people who don't get the opportunity to repent their wrongs. As I'm someone who've had humbling experiences in the past that led me to letting go of my pride and finding God, I sometimes think about those who don't get the opportunity to process all of that. I imagine a scenario where someone is living a life of luxury (who'd we expect to lose it all at some point and teach him an important lesson and give him an opportunity to process letting go of his pride), but what happens if he gets hit by a bus while still living the life? It gives him no opportunity to repent or realize his wrongs let alone accepting Jesus. While I don't believe in universalism and the concept of purgatory isn't scriptural, I sometimes wonder why is it while we're living that's gives us breathing room to process humility and repentance? Just wondering if someone else have an answer to this (so far, the only way I can kind of make sense of this is through a sort of Calvinist lens).

His daughter had cancer set up in her body, but since she thought if she told anybody how she felt, it would make it real, so she remained silent about her pain. She died of the cancer. The kid is still dead...but there's no way they will depart from this expectation that people can't die in a world that is still held in bondage to decay (Romans 8:20-21). One of the BEST things that I have done in my entire life is to read the entire Bible. Before I started my Bible Study I prayed about and then I got the idea to write down all of the books of the Bible on a small piece of paper much like preparing to pull names at Christmas time. First I did the Old Testament, reading each book completely out of the current order of books in the Bible. Then I did the same to read the New Testament. I would pray over the folded up pieces of paper that listed the names of the books of the Bible... shook it up... and whatever Bible Book name that came out... that's what I read. I can not express what happened to me as soon as I got finished. I felt like something happened to me on the inside... then I remebered that the Word of God is ALIVE. Next, it came to me to write.. and write... and I ended up writing a book entitled: Don't Be No Fool... (Read and Study the Word of God, for YOURSELF. It is my reading and understanding of God's Word that has really blessed my life. I'm not saying that I didn't have any troubles but the Word would always pop in my head with words of strength and comfort. It was also God's Word that revealed the truth about these so called Prosperity Preachers... However, it was expected. God warned all of us about a time such as this... here are the scriptures that cover this particular situation is: 2 Timothy 4:1-4 (King James Version) 1, I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. Amen.

My family and I started going to Lakewood Church when I was in junior high. We sat under Joel's father, John Osteen, for many years. We were very involved in the church. My parents were prayer warriors, I worked in the nursery, my brother worked for the TV ministry. When John died, we were shocked that Joel took over as pastor. From the very beginning I couldn't stomach listening to Joel. He never spoke about Jesus. He never preached against sin. Every "sermon" sounded exactly like the sermon before and they were all about prosperity and thinking happy thoughts. That was back in 1999. My family would get so angry at me when I would point this out and would tell me to not speak "bad things" about Joel. Joel has dishonored his father's legacy. Edited to add: The Bible declaration at the beginning of his teachings was taken (and edited) from what his father said and did. We would all stand and hold up our Bibles and say, "This is my Bible. I have what it says I have. I can do what it says I can do. Today I will be taught the Word of God. I boldly confess, my mind is alert. My heart is receptive. I am about to receive the indestructible, incorruptible, ever living seed of the Word of God. I will never be the same. Never, never, never. In Jesus name, Amen." Then, John Osteen would open his Bible and read from the scripture. There are many John Osteen sermons on KZbin that I think are worth looking up. He's radically different than Joel.

Great job Melissa, I was Joel follower for a number of years, watched his sermons on TBN, listened to his SiriusXM channel and live streamed all of the Lakewood services every Sunday. His smiling and friendly nature took me in. He attempts to manipulate the laws of spirituality to turn things in our favor. Joel also teaches much about the "Destiny" that God has for us and that we can miss it if we aren't following the principals he teaches. His mother Dodie Osteen, who was healed from terminal illness in 1984 is a frequent subject point of his teachings. (Ironically, his father John Osteen was not healed from illness later in his life and passed despite applying these same principals and died of a heart attack in 1999) What we also don't see on the television broadcast is that each service in Lakewood is opened with reciting a long list of words that are meant to make us feel good about ourselves, followed by a "this is my bible" deceleration, then a lame joke. So routine I could literally quote the opening of each service before seeing it. Keep also this in mind... Joel is well versed on what his critics say about him and is very clever with how he words things to keep anyone from straying. His doctrine, is Jesus never answered his critics, so why should I? (Not true by the way...) Keep also in mind Lakewood Church churns out other well known "Pastors" that teach just a falsely as he does, I listened heavily to John Gray and others in the WOF movement that were frequent guest speakers. I was very wrapped up in this, but through all still desired the truth more than abundance in my life which eventually lead me to actually have a relationship with Jesus. I question during my time in WOF if I was actually ever saved. Thank God for his grace that he gave me more time to find the truth!

Osteen's constant emphasis on "I", "I", "I" is a message straight from the pit. Who wants US to be glorified? God? No, someone else. All his talk of prosperity, success, wealth, good favor, etc., is all the same stuff: an appeal to our flesh. John MacArthur said it best: Everything Osteen says is something that appeals to the unredeemed heart, the natural man, the one who doesn't profess to know God. And that's the problem. He promises things that anyone would want--that great job, the fabulous car, the beautiful wife, the raise, the promotion. All things Satan tempts us with. It's all the world's goods, not the biblical promises. His book title, "Your Best Life Now", says it all: your best life WILL be now if you follow Osteen...a whole lot better than the next one.

Yes Kay! That is how it's done. Each time you read The Word, you have more Faith in what you are reading. And the more Faith you have in The Word of God, the more The Holy Spirit reveals to you, because you receive the Holy Spirit through your Faith!

I've come to understand a large portion of the Bible through studying. Knowing historical and cultural context helps. Knowing Greek and Hebrew can also give you a whole new understanding. And sometimes you just need to pray.

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Absolutely fantastic video, Melissa! So thoughtful, in-depth, and carefully looking to God's Word as the authority and filter. Today is Good Friday and as I listened to Joel proclaiming those "I AM" statements (Oh Father, help them!), I couldn't help but think of Christ walking to the cross and hanging as our Redeemer and Sacrifice. It moved me to tears. Praying the eyes and hearts of those who are trapped by these false teachings are set free!

GREAT COMMENT! Unfortunately, many people are "gathering around themselves a great number of teachers, to tell them what their itching ears WANT to hear" (2 Timothy 4:3).

In all the sermons I've seen of his, he is very encouraging and uplifting, but not a Bible teacher. I've only ever seen him wave his Bible around, not read from it.

I've always said the same thing, real leaders will edify, correct & rebuke you if necessary to get you on the straight n narrow. They will definitely preach & teach against sin.

My friend who is a preacher at Victory Church in Oklahoma. States this: "God wants his job back. Quit trying to take something that was never ours in the begin with. It's time we get on bended knee and ask for forgiveness for trying to be like God." Pastor John Chasteen. I went to Bible College with this young man and his dad was one very good pastor. What he had to say about our resume verses God's does not line up. God is our father and he alone speaks and does according to his words not ours. He knows what we need and desire he gives when we are ready, but it does not give us the right take anything from God. God alone is the author and finisher of our faith and he alone gives salvation through his son Jesus Christ. When we come to him it should be with humility and reverence. My heart hurts for those who are believing anything Oprah or Joel Osteen teach. It's all false. There is no reverence and no humility. I do pray for them. I pray God shows up in their lives and they privately repent before God and publicly denounce word of faith, mystic and new age beliefs.

I come from a spirituality that was somewhere between New Thought and eclectic neo-paganism. It took me a really long time to let go of it. For me, the appeal of Joel Osteen's teachings was that they made me feel like I could still hold on to some of the stuff I used to believe AND follow Christ. This was really confusing for me. And I'm ashamed to say that it made repentance very difficult.

God "hates evil" and Joel is an evil doer. God doesn't love him, but God does have the door open for him to come to God. If Peter had kept denying Jesus all his life, you think he would have been one of the twelve still? He would have been evil and God would not have accepted him. Joel denies God and Jesus all the time by telling lies. But Gods love is available to Joel, if only Joel turn away from false teachings.
@lizh19883 жыл бұрын
@@markuse3472 Joel doesn't love God, is the problem. A pastor at my church knows people who know his family, preachers themselves. It sounds like Joel's been told he's way in the wrong on his teachings, by other preachers, and more than once. He hasn't changed, and that should be the end of it. I will not pray for someone like that. There's no point, he won't change. He doesn't want to. He doesn't care, wants to lead the rich life, has nothing else in his head. I hat to say it, but I'm not seeing like light biblically for him. It's all about the life he & his friends want to lead, not about preaching the gospel. I just hope people see what he's up to and find a genuine preacher to follow and support.

I no longer listen to Joel’s teachings, but I still smh when he’s interviewed and he makes statements to be politically correct. The point of the Bible is to have a foundation that doesn’t change with political views.

Thank you Melissa Here are my I Am's..... I Am essentially weak minded I Am feeble I Am selfish and self centered I Am a sinner I Am saved only by HIS great mercy I Am saved only by HIS generous grace I Am cleansed only by HIS blood shed on the cross I Am undeserving of this yet have received eternal life and what is eternal life in the words of our savior JESUS CHRIST: John 17:3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only True GOD, and JESUS CHRIST whom You have sent. Keep up the good work in the Lord Melissa

I love Pastor Osteen, I don't have him as a pastor who teaches based on the rule of men, but as a Pastor who teaches through motivation. I was thinking the other day that, the only rule men of God have in common is faith and obedience. They all had their own unique way of transmitting the WORD. Instead of focusing on what I think of him, I prefer to focus on whether he has a testimony of faith through the way he lives.

Thank you for this video. As a young christian I used to watch his dad, John Osteen and loved him. I always thought he preached the bible. I liked Joel too for a long time and even bought some of his books. I remember feeling duped when I realized he was teaching a too good to be true - non biblical - prosperity gospel pack of garbage. I threw his books away. As a christian I know I am a rotten sinner in need of a savior and Christ came to satisfy God's judgement for me. I don't deserve it, I didn't earn it, and there's not one thing I or anyone else can do or say to get saved. We are all under God's mercy, and frankly quite lucky (for lack of a better word) not to receive exactly what we deserve when we deserve it. One thing is for certain, only God can speak anything into existence. And it's a good thing. Can you imagine?

The Holy Spirit revealed to me that I was not to watch Joel Olsteen or read his books and watch the people who do. There is a huge difference in the “Christians” who watch Joel Olsteen and the Christians who don’t. I thank God for helping me with this. Without God’s leading and helping me, I could have easily fallen into theses type of teachings. I give God all the Glory and continue to pray for all my friends and family members who consider Joel Olsteen to be their pastor!
