honestly it is super obvious they will either shut it down or paywall it. but people still trust rockstar (where the ogs of gta have quit) and take two, the same companies that made gta the defective editions, rdr ports, gta+, and "streamlined the user experience" by removing 200 vehicles from gtao, killed rdr2 online support and i am sure i am forgetting several things. how some people are hyped for rockstar buying fivem is beyond me.

This is because FiveM is technically way more advanced than R* current networking, GTA Online is using an outdated P2P networking with a limit of 32 players per lobby when FiveM has dedicated servers and lobby limit of 2000 players per server (for the biggest ones). FiveM is also way more popular. I honestly think nothing will change for the current FiveM but in the future for GTA 6, Rockstar will ask them to make GTA Online 2.0. Why keep working on an outdated P2P networking system with 32 players limitations when you can simply buy FiveM and say: "Hey ! You're way better at making an MP than our shitty GTA Online, please make GTA Online 2.0 for GTA 6 !". Obviously they will add microtransactions and sh** like that, but at least they will take advantage of their networking tech.
