Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City, is coextensive with Queens County in the state of New York. Situated at the western tip of Long Island, Queens is the largest borough by area. It borders Brooklyn to the west and Nassau County to the east, and has maritime borders with Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, and New Jersey. Queens is renowned for being the most linguistically and ethnically diverse place in the world.
As of the 2020 census, Queens has a population of 2,405,464, making it the second-most populous county in New York State, following Kings County (Brooklyn). This also places it as the second-most populous borough in New York City. Were Queens an independent city, it would rank as the fourth largest in the United States, following New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago. It is the fourth-most densely populated borough in New York City and ranks similarly among U.S. counties. Approximately 47% of its residents are foreign-born, reflecting its high level of diversity.
