Well, you might be playing right into their hands if you choose to stay inside. You're in your 70's? You built that city on rock and roll. Get out and own it! Somebody gives you any guff, poke 'em in the ribs with your cane or umbrella.

As I’m watching, the first thing that came to mind is… “95% every human that we see was not born in a New York hospital!” That wasn’t the case when we grew up. New York was a magical city when it was populated with true New Yorkers. True New Yorkers didn’t have to be born here. But when they got here they had to become New Yorkers. It was impossible to remain who you were in your previous town if you came to live here.

I'm not afraid of it or anything some of the other posters are mentioning regarding homelessness or dirty streets. I just think it looks dull. Incredibly boring compared to what it was 30 to 40 years ago. The nightlife seems Dead to me. At 3 AM in New York 30 years ago those streets would've been 10 times more crowded. Theree used to be after hours clubs and regular bars open till 4 AM people, forget that last call for most bars in York is not 2 a.m. it's 4 AM. I didn't see any of that in this video. For me the most depressing part of New York is just how horribly boring and corporate it is

Hard to sum this up but I feel I have to, lol. Not the 'big apple' or city that never sleeps I've been led to believe exists. Even at 3am I would have it would be pumping, guess not. There's a gun on average for every American or is that 2, seems there's a hot dog stand for each citizen too lol. Lots of people, mainly black sitting around bored, what's the point of being in the big apple at all?, homeless?, strange vibe I got from this, does not look inviting place to visit. Especially at 3am it seems

Yes, it has always been. But it isn't more dangerous now than before. It may seem/feel that way because of 24/7 acess to social media and videos where bad acts are more viewed, shared and reported than the good acts people do on a daily basis. That's all.

My town! Still love the memory of it. The video starts on 30th street and 8th avenue then heads north. 8th avenue has been “seedy” since the early 60s. I couldn’t find a clock but I knew its was late at night (or early in the morning. Same thing) 95% of the people you see were not born in a New York hospital. So you’re not seeing true native New Yorkers. But it’s midtown Manhattan. The first place most out of towners go. I know people that came to visit for the weekend and wound up staying 40 years never returning home . They got trapped by something and remained. Even people on their honeymoon. I don’t see (memory associate) New York with what this video shows. I got a story for just about every block shown in this video. America was always two things. New York and everywhere else.

Great video quality. Now I don't have to go to NY to see it.

New York isn't the city that never sleeps anymore. The roll up the sidewalks each night. Visit other large cities all over the world outside of the US and you will see 24x7 cities.

THIS WHOLE THING WHERE YOU CAN'T WORK AND MAKE MONEY LEGALLY UNLESS YOU GIVE THEM YOUR NAME AND YOUR LICENSE AND FILL OUT A BUNCH OF PAPERWORK AND THEN WAIT TWO WEEKS FOR YOUR PAYCHECK? THAT DOESN'T SIT RIGHT WITH ME, AT ALL.

Only 2:00 a.m. and nobody out but the homeless? I thought this was the city that never sleeps This place is definitely been gentrified and sterilized and neutered into putrid boringness.

All those homeless people in wheelchairs have done it to themselves. If they would just get up and walk They could climb out of homelessness but that's what they want to be dying in the heat on the side of the street stuck in a wheelchair, you can't help some people. As a citizen who works and goes to work everyday. I owe nothing to the homeless, it would be wrong if I put any any energy towards lobbying for fair housing for these people since they do not get up and go to work everyday like I do. Get up out of your wheelchair and go to work I have no pity for you.

NY was intimidating to me when I first visited as a rube midwestern saillor in the 1970s. Its unrecognizable from this video. The soul has been sucked out. It may as well be any big city in Europe or Asua. It doesn't proclaim America. RADIO CITY looked lost. All the concrete barriers and all where traffic used to buzz. In favor of what? Pedestrian "friendly " streets, ? Otherwise it looks like a worse than remnant of a neon Atlantic City.
