Every now and then you get reminded that Kanami's influences are not 80s Rock and Metal artists, but 70s Jazz adjacent artists like Carlos Santana and Larry Carlton. This song and Before Yesterday are my two favourite songs that they didn't write, and this is one of their best dual vocals.

The bass and guitar trade offs the entire verse, a touch of Run-DMC/Beastie Boys vocal trade offs in the chorus and the best Tom Morello guitar solo ever played. Just another one-of-a-kind killer Band-Maid track and a personal favorite of mine.

Other reactor mentioned recently about Band-Maid not using those cruchy riffs from the early days that he used to love. Most of those songs were written for the band, not by Kanami. I think Kanami love more melodic style. (These days I hear Miku playing crunchy riffs in some songs though). BTW. Freezer is my favourite twin vocal gem. Miku's vocal is powerful and Saiki's vibrato is sussy AF. While the song wasn't written by Kanami, her solo is all Kanami. And by this stage, the band was actively involved with the arrangement of the songs written for them. Thank you so much for reacting to their early gem.

Band-Maid's older, somewhat overlooked songs are going to be rediscovered for years to come. This will bring a continuous flow of new fans into their fold. Some of these tunes are heavy, hard punk rock adding a new depth of artistry to the Maids many fans didn't know they had. Not to ruin something, but just to let you know, all the songs from the first 2 albums were composed by outside writers. It was only in their 3rd album, Brand new Maid, that Kanami was allowed to put her first own song on it, called "Alone". That being said, I love "New beginning", where this is from. It's fun and upbeat and back then they had a few songs like "Freezer", where Saiki and Miku would trade off vocals and it worked so well.

P in D's second to the last slide in "Freezer" shows a nightclub scene in the 2021 Netflix movie "Kate" where the actress Mary Elizabeht Winstead is featured here and in this scene Band-Maid has a cameo role where they are playing "Choose Me" on screen in the background. Also, in the same movie, another of their songs called "Blooming" is being played during a car crash scene. Yep, those girls can play!

One of my favorites, I don't believe Kanami wrote this one as a lot of the earlier songs were written for them, but their performances on their instruments makes it great. The riff and vocal interactions between Saiki and Miku are awesome. Speaking of vocal interactions Beauty and the Beast is another early song is practically Japanese rap with a metal break down section, definitely a must listen, not sure if that one is on KZbin or not.

This will be Yui and Moa of Babymetal and 1 other "student" at the Sakura Gakuine reality show performing arts school. This is where they met Su Metal and became Babymetal. Freezer. An ironically named Band-Maid song, because there is no chill in it. Another one day late FYI. (Because I just found out about it round 2am last night...) Lovebites did a 45 minute, 8 song set at a Korean K-pop music fest called "JUMF 2024" 2 days ago. (Yes, it's an F not a P at the end there.) And they posted the entire thing on the channel "Playlist ON" (A Korean music channel apparently?) But it is a weird show to me, because the sound is very raw (not that it stopped them from being amazing), and the lighting only ever focuses on Asami for 80% of it. The comment section was saying it was because it was a K-pop festival, and the sound engineer, and lighting was set up for those kind of acts. They weren't prepared for a metal act where the instruments were as important as the singer. So it felt very different, and slightly frustrating. Anywho, figured I'd throw that info out there for any who wanted it. I'd link it, but I dunno how to pop a link on here without it getting auto-deleted by KZbin. lol
