A Bit Of My Journey Buying China Stamps Online

I decided to share a walkthrough of what I went through while trying to buy Imperial China stamps on the web. I focused mainly on Airmail stamps for this video. There are some secret marks you have to look out for. These are not even close to the most difficult Chinese stamps to identify and yet, so many sellers list them incorrectly. I don't know where you live, but, be patient and go to the next "serious" stamp show in your area. I'd be surprised if there wouldn't be a dealer that offers a lot of Chinese stamps there. The convenience of the internet is great in many ways, but not always for a stamp collector, lots of opportunists out there. I agree with you with regards to the APS member discount that used to be, but is no longer. I actually don't like the merger with HipStamp at all and am considering leaving the APS after having been a member for over 25 years, simply because of this. Keep the postings coming, i'm really enjoying them.

I wish they would get the discount working, I'm not sure logistically how difficult that is but I assume it isn't like moving mountains...

a lot of sleazy stores use shipping costs to pad profits. Most stores actually. I totally agree with you that stamps of all things should be mailed in envelopes at flat rate. No more then 3$ for the largest of envelope that you could stuff with 1000 stamps.

Agreed, being a seller myself I can't think of any way to honestly justify those steep shipping costs.

Kyle, I agree with you about some stores charging outrageous amounts for shipping. I was going to buy a German Third Reich stamp for $3.50 but the seller wanted $13.50 for shipping from the US to Canada. That is NUTS. Needless to say I did not buy it. Found an other copy for the same price with $2.00 shipping. I have also seen some APS Members misclassify stamps. Possibly they have too much stock to check carefully but they should.

Wow, $13.50?! Yikes. Yeah, I love the APS but they aren't perfect just like everyone they make mistakes too.

Fun video to watch... Is it real? is it fake? Is it a CTO? I feel your pain! the problem I see with collecting worldwide is that no one can't be an expert on everything so you restrict yourself to the cheap stamps, rarely completing anything. That's no fun to me. My approach was to specialize and study. I don't have many thousands of stamps but I don't get caught with fakes and forgeries. Many sellers have no clue about most of the fakes. Even APS offers plenty of forgeries at their store. I also noticed in the last couple of years some sellers on ebay selling modern printer copies of rare stamps.

Yeah, I wish things were a little easier. I wonder how many fakes I have in my collection! Printer copies of rare stamps... WOW, the balls on these guys!

They've learned how to fake whole covers, do to micro printing. It's tuff on the experts to figure out. Lol

The junkers stamps set is missing the 90 cents as well, #C17 , olive-green, there is 10 stamps in the set
