Angel you are on point regarding Alfonso Ribeiro. He seems to purposely distance himself from the black community and that's fine. How he thinks the black community feels about him is in reality how he feels about the black community. I have watched him host a game show and whenever an African American, especially a women of color is a contestant he is over the top using the stereo typical language used in the media to represent how African Americans speak. It is awkward and personally offensive to me a African American woman.
@unfriendlyblkhottie4443 жыл бұрын
Agreed. He's projecting like hell.
@kickrockspleze3 жыл бұрын
Did he really purposely distance himself from the black community or was he just not on our radar? If he stay true, then we all know, the character of Carlton was played so well, we all assume that is how he is in reality, and the majority of the black community didn't relate. I hardly think that any project made to cater the the black audience would ever call him for an audition. That is what I think he means when he says the black community turned on him. It's true for the most part. I honestly think his use of stereotypical black language was his way of saying look at me, I can be cool too.
@lmichelle80sbaby3 жыл бұрын
@@kickrockspleze , you made a great point. He was too good at Carlton, lol (makes me think of Malcolm Jamal Warner as "Theo")... I guess we just couldn't put Carlton down! It really is kinda hard to see him any other way, even now. But I think he also may have contributed to the distance with his own disconnection. I dont think he thought much about it at the time but did he actively seek out black media, friends, attention... I cant say but it doesn't appear to be so. I'd love to ask him if he ever tried to ride out/party/chill with black Hollywood back in the day. It seems like he's more comfortable in a whiter/mixed crowd.🤷🏽♀️
@kickrockspleze3 жыл бұрын
@@lmichelle80sbaby I think part of his rant was that he was never accepted in Black Hollywood, but he thinks the reason is because of his white wife. I have seen so many comments about him not working with Black entertainment, but in reality we do know if he tried or not, we just assume that because we never saw him it was because he didn't want to work with Black entertainment when it could be he was rejected. I wish that instead of dismissing his story and saying he is lying or looking for attention, Black media outlets would reach out to interview him. Maybe he is looking for attention or maybe he was constantly rejected by Black entertainment outlets because he wasn't "Black enough". I would love to hear his side of the story in detail.

Has anyone ever seen Alfonso act? I have. I am old enough to have watched him all the way back when he was Ricky Schroeder's best friend on "Silver Spoons." His acting has not changed. Watch him on that show, watch him as Carlton, watch him on America's Funniest Home Videos. He has ONE NOTE. He played Carlton, but part of the reason he is always that role in our heads isn't just type casting. He doesn't act. He is literally the same guy no matter what role he plays. He was a dancer that got an acting role. He was not am actor who just happened to know how to dance. I wish Hollywood would figure that out with Beyonce, and movies would be a safer place.

Black folks definitely love “The Carlton” which is why it bothers me that he feels ousted, but I can understand his frustration with being typecast. Even his role on In The House with LL Cool J had some remnants of Carlton. 1:14:50 - Salute to Kev, Angel and Josh for giving a peek (just a tiny lil peek to a much larger picture) of the types of challenges creators have to overcome when they're getting an independent brand/idea/concept/business off the ground toward being profitable or a huge success. GET THE APP!!!

Lamont means "the mountain" in French. People think we're making up our kids names all the time, and if we are there's nothing wrong with that. But they wanna slander us and alot of these names have meanings! Lavita means 'the life" in Italian and Spanish.

These European countries aren’t slick. When I saw a black Japanese man in the 100m4x4 relay and black women playing for the Netherlands volleyball teams in the Brazil Olympics I knew the Olympics were getting darker.

There are probably millions of black people in the Netherlands (myself included). Suriname and Curaçao are also under the Netherlands so it isn't surprising that you see black people in the team

@@kelvinnana205 okay but how often has the Netherlands a black person to represent them in the olympics?
@kelvinnana2053 жыл бұрын
@@ibookman3338 quite often. Some of their football (American soccer) legends are black.

In my first apartment I was broke too. At the time my sister worked as a lunch lady at a school across the street from my apartment. I would come home and my sister would put the school leftovers in my fridge. That school food got me through

No, I can relate to the broke life. When my parents would come visit me, they were like you don’t have live like this. “We can help please call”. The blood bank helped me a lot.

The interesting thing about what happened to Boyz to Men is that other groups, white groups, who are much older than them and aren't on social media, still tour and make a lot of money like Hall and Oates, The Eagles, Chicago, etc. Or the artists who get a Vegas residency. Many of them haven't put out new music in years, but still command a large audience. Boyz to Men has great music and a great sound, I hate that they struggled after so much success.
